Happy Labor Day LL!

Another late night last night, but a beautiful surf in greens. I'm thrilled with how much time Eddie spent in blues and greens yesterday, and it appears that the food experiment for the late cycle slide worked! I think that little tool in the toolbox will help us stop some of the early cycle dives.

DH got home last night, so he was in charge this AM, letting me get an extra long sleep in this AM. Eddie gave him a green AMPS, which means he stayed flat or even went down a bit after I stopped poking last night. In the one day he was gone, DH apparently forgot the new feeding routine, so there were only three breakfasts this morning rather than four, but the cats will live, I'm sure.

Eddie headed into a bounce, but so far it's not a terrible bounce (anti-jinx). He gets somewhat of a pokie break as a result. I'm glad I have had several days off (and one more tomorrow!) to be data ready with our new routine when I go back to TBP. It makes me nervous to leave him with his runs in lowish numbers, but I think I've got a pretty good handle on what needs to be done food-wise to hold him up. I hope Eddie will turn it back around today, and if he starts sliding down towards the end of the cycle, we will try the food experiment again.

Paws crossed that a short-lived, half-hearted bounce is all this is, although I'm guessing sleep would be welcome at this point. You do remember that sleep deprivation is part of the kitties' master plans to take over the world, right? :lol:

Glad DH is back to help you with Eddie (even if he has messed up the routine), and it's great that the food experiment seemed to work.

Think of it as the bounce giving you a breather and please remind me of this when Max likely bounces tonight or tomorrow. I'm glad you DH is back to help.

I've been whining that we need to move from a queen to a king, because there's not enough room for DH and I and five cats. Guess a king probably wouldn't solve that problem.

Speaking from experience - it doesn't solve the problem. Regardless of how big the bed is, the cats manage to strategically place themselves so that the humans are perched precariously on the edges. :YMSIGH: :lol:

Hi Elise - You're totally right that a bounce is a breather - especially when you're doing a lot of management to get the flat blue and green cycles that seem to come rather effortlessly for some lucky kitties. I will definitely remind you of this if/when Max bounces again. :lol:

Hi Shelly! I'm hoping as well that the bounce is short lived :smile: but it was actually sort of a relief when DH reported the +1 and +2, knowing I wouldn't have to get up to do food management and 1/2 hourly testing after about 4 hours of sleep. @-) And you're right...the kitties did not agree that it was "no big deal" that they only got three breakfasts rather than four. cat(2)_steam They've been periodically checking the food bowls all morning to see if there's more food on the way. DH and I have joked that we should get a single bed to put at the foot of our bed for the cats, but I don't think adding extra bed space is a solution to cats that want to sleep on your head, on your feet, or stretched out diagonally across the middle of the bed. :lol:

Carla - Thanks for visiting! Furball seems to be keeping nice and even keeled lately. Eddie could use a lesson on that. ;-)

Wrong way Fast Eddie!!! But you had some gorgeous cycles so we know you can.

I got to thinking about what you said that you found a post for LBG on food management. Then I wondered "which one?" :lol: :lol: :lol: I was a high maintenance newbie with a gazillion questions. But I do have to say it was a great learning experience for all who had the patience to read our condos :razz: :razz:

On the bed...Shelly is right. We got a king sized bed. Now Mike has to sleep on one edge and me on the other because LBG will get between us, stretch out perpendicular to our bodies, and throw her little brown feet on us. Or she gets on our pillows and we wake up with our heads on one teensy corner and she's sprawled across them.

Still....I'd go for the king bed.

Hey, Eddie! Where you going? Don't you know that a bunch of the kitties are having a swim party in the lagoon today? They're celebrating Labor/Labour Day with a splash! C'mon down and join them (slowly, please - you have all day!).

Count me as another member of the edge of the bed brigade. Minka sleeps on our feet and is no problem, but Sasha, the smallest of our cats, has to be in between us, usually cuddled up against me, and no matter how far towards the middle of the bed I start out, I always wake up about an inch from going over the side! I have no idea how she does it!! :lol: I keep asking for a king, too, but I suspect nothing would be different - she'd just have more bed to hog! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Very interesting on the food experimentation. I don't have the patience for that. Cinco doesn't seem to be super carb sensitive, anyway, so I'm not sure it would work with him. I hope it continues to work for Eddie.

Thanks for thinking of Sasha. We'll take all the good vines and thoughts and prayers we can get!

Hi Tricia - I told Eddie he's missing out on the lagoon party, so hopefully he'll decide there's nothing interesting on these higher floors and make his way back down (at a reasonable pace). I'm too much of a softie (so says DH) about letting the cats take over my side of the bed. They usually don't hog his side of the bed, so he may be on to something. :lol:

:?: Out of concern whether DH and I are shooting consistently between each other, I finally played with the calipers tonight that I've had for a few months. I have Ulticare syringes. The zero line generally measures up pretty well, but I realized that the space between the zero line and the 1u line is much larger than between subsequent unit increment lines, up until the space between 4u and 5u which is larger again. 1u as marked appears to be about 1.6mm (allowing for a nice even number that is easily rounded, etc.) but 5u as marked on the syringe is much less than 8mm (5 (x) 1.6mm). My thought is to go with the 1.6mm as 1u and then just multiply from there regardless of how the syringe is marked. So for example our 2.25u would be 3.6mm - except that is closer to 2.5u as marked on the syringe. What we've been shooting for 2.25u (as marked) is closer to 3.2mm (or 2.0u assuming 1.6 as one unit). If we were to go with the 3.6mm and call it 2.25u that would in reality about a quarter unit increase. So I'm thinking we use the 3.2mm which is close to the 2.25u as we've been measuring it and going forward on Eddie's SS call that 2u. Does that make sense??

My pea-sized brain can't wrap my head around all the numbers! :lol: It sounds like you've got it down, though. I just couldn't ever figure out the calipers with the type of syringes we were using. I really do think they'll make a difference, though.

Looks like this was definitely a short-lived bounce today. :shock: I hope Eddie slows it down for you. Did you try the food experiment late this afternoon?

I guess it really doesn't matter necessarily what we "call" the units, so long as it's consistent - and I realized that my syringes are totally not consistent as to the amounts for each unit. :roll:

Holy bounce clear! I didn't do the late afternoon snack today since he was headed up rather than down late in the cycle. A lot of times when Eddie's bounce clearing, he'll have an all-day slide from AMPS to PMPS or from PMPS to AMPS. Those are the cycles that I've been watching for - for purposes of a late cycle snack, but maybe I ought to do a late cycle snack for all bounce cycles - since he comes barreling down even from a high pre-shot at times. Those ones are harder to predict. @-)

My FD crystal ball says YES, unless Eddie immediately bounces. ;-) :mrgreen: I guess I'm going to have to watch the flat yellow cycles, too. He used to "occasionally" have an exciting cycle after a flat yellow one, but the last two have been followed by huge drops. I'm trying to slow him down with MC, but failing.

I'm using BD syringes and decided that 1.6mm would be good for 1U. It was quite accurate above 2U, but not as much now that we're around 1U in dose. But it doesn't matter what I call things, as long as I'm consistent and DH knows to shoot whatever the calipers are set to. It DOES make for easy math. .4mm for each .25U and you can easily get those in between doses for .2mm difference.

Hi Elise - Hmmm. I don't know. I asked about reductions in yesterdays condo, and Marje recommended 1 below 40 or 3 below 50, which he got tonight. It wasn't like I "fought" to get him up, but then again, he's been getting a lot of extra MC food during these green runs. I may shoot through the bounce tomorrow one more time to try to avoid losing momentum, but I think I'll probably take it down the full quarter unit. I'll most likely be asking in tomorrow's condo what to do. ;-)

With Eddie up to 84 without food intervention for a coupe hours, I'm off to bed early tonight! I-) I-) I-)

Calipers are too complicated for my feeble brain, and my DH has no interest in messing with them. You're a lot smarter than I am, Jen. I got lost reading your post.

Cinco just went down to the lagoon to keep Eddie company. Hopefully they'll behave themselves the rest of the night.
