YESTERDAY:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=128308

First I want to thank everyone for the help yesterday. This dance might be easy for some but not for me. Max is still bouncing a little I think. It was getting late and I want to get back the 20 minutes I lost last night. So I shot the 2.4 again but will fix the calipers and go back to 2.5 tonight I think. He sure was more social yesterday and graced me with his presence a second time during the evening and then got on my bed for awhile with me while I was actually in it. That hasn't happened in a few months. I hope he slides back down to green today.

Prayers and vines to all kitties and beans in need.

Maybe back on track. nailbite_smile I was going to try a light (for me) workout but can't leave him now. I used to be good to go from 8:30-10 or 11 much of the time but not right now. Maybe my sore back muscles will get a chance to heal. I'll go this afternoon maybe. I haven't taken any Advil and wasn't hurting but it is starting a little now as I type this. I did just pick up my 15lb 14 oz cat. Will he ever get back to 14 lbs?

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55

He REALLY did need that reduction although I know he is working on the old depot. In the past it didn't seem to matter. This is different.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55+4.5/58+5/63+6/49

OMG. Max didn't eat the food I put out at +5 so I figured he was just full. WRONG! I just put him in the bathroom sink, his testing spot, and forgot my glasses. When I came back with them he started growling and making strange noises. I think this is the first time that he is having a reaction to the low numbers. I calmed him down and was able to test and got the 49. I gave him some hc with a lot of karo and will test again in 20 minutes. I was worried he wouldn't eat it but thank goodness he did. I am so glad he didn't get the 2.5+ or even 2.5 today. I know this is still the depot working. This is scary.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55+4.5/58+5/63+6/49YIKES

I should have locked him out of my bedroom. He is under the bed. Wish me luck that I don't have trouble getting him out for the next test. I'll bribe with food I guess.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55+4. 5/58+5/63+6/49+6.7

All that karo brought him up to 71 and he let me get him out and test. Relief.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55+4. 5/58+5/63+6/49+6.7

Sometimes the depot can really continue to drop numbers for a few cycles after a reduction. As in all things with FD, it's another area where "know thy cat" applies. And, of course, it can change as the dose gets a lot lower. If Max comes right up out of that 49 and stays up, I'd leave the dose alone and wait out the depot.

Did you catch him and how's he doing now? I know it's tough with your back injury to dig him out from under the bed and pick him up.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55+4. 5/58+5/63+6/49+6.7

Thanks Marje for the advice. I figured it was the depot. The plan had been to take a smaller reduction tonight but I figured it best to leave it where it is and see what he does. The little brat really scared me with the growling. l wonder if it was the low BG disorienting him or he just had it with the tests. I think he was disoriented. He was fine with the last one. I'll be dreading testing for the next few pokes though until I'm sure he's not going hypo. That must have been what he was like at the vet's when they did the curve and he was labeled HOSTILE. My laid back cat I said. Both my vet and I were shocked.

The hc and karo really brought him up, probably too much.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55/58+5/63+6/49+6/71+7/9

I hope Max keeps surfing safely for the rest of the day and stays where you can get to him easily. It's hard to predict what will happen with the depot.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55/58+5/63+6/49+6/71+7/9

I definitely think you are dealing with depot so I'd hold on a bit longer.

For example, Gracie usually has depot action for almost six cycles after a reduction. However, if in the fourth cycle after a reduction, she gets into the 30s, I usually shave a little more off her dose. That's her and Max could be wildly different but we'll just have to see!

Glad he's coming up.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+2/129+3/76+4/55/58+5/63+6/49+6/71+7/9

I agree. I was actually planning to raise him a tad because I had taken him down to 2.4 instead of 2.5 by of course I won't do that now. I had taken the smaller than suggested reduction for me rather than for him. It seems to have turned out for the best so far. Funny thing is he never seemed to have the depot work for him before because he would bounce. This time it had much longer to build up with him in green so maybe that is the reason.

He is sleeping in his bed so comfortable I'm thinking of not testing again until PMPS. After all he was 90 at the last test.

Sounds good. I love how you are picking out his patterns :-D :-D :-D

See...you need to trust yourself and your instincts with him.

me too!

yes, Max has changed recently. He cleared that bounce in no time and is right back to business. He looks great today - but that sounds scary that he got mad at you. I wonder if he's just had it over all the testing. His ear must be sore. Are you using plenty of the N with pain relief?

I think you know him incredibly well and understand what's going on - i second Marje's "trust your instincts" with him.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+3/76+4/55/58+6/49+6/71+7/90PMPS 108

Thanks Marje, Carla, and Julie. Yes, I am using N with pain. I really think he lashed out for some other reason. I was scared maybe he was going hypo and out of it. I think had I not caught that test that is what was happening. He doesn't always let me know. I had taken him from his bed for that test and he was in a deep sleep. He does that a lot so I wasn't concerned until the growling noises.

He just was sitting and looking at his bowl before I tested him. Didn't make a sound. He cleaned his plate. Time to measure and shoot. Wish me luck tonight. Stay on track and don't drop too low PLEASE, Mr. Maxie.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+3/76+4/55/58+6/49+6/71+7/90PMPS 108

what a good day for max again today!

Sending max "stay on track and don't go too low" vibes! :-D

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+3/76+4/55/58+6/49+6/71+7/90PMPS 108

Another beautiful cycle for Mr. Max- good luck with the reducie! That is curious that he growled- I wonder if you did wake him from a very deep sleep to test and he just wasn't fully awake? He sounds like such a mellow kitty from your descriptions. Hope you got some rest last night and a break from testing, and some rest for your aching back! I would say if you are still having acute pain you might consider at trip to the doctor or chiropracter? :YMHUG: :YMHUG: Sending healing feel better vines!

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+3/76+4/55/58+6/49+6/71+7/90PMPS 108

Wow, looks like you got a different kind of workout today than you had planned! :o I'm glad Max got over the growls so quickly. Maybe it was a combo of being low and being sleepy that made him react that way.

I hope he surfs for you tonight and doesn't try anything funny. Hear that Max? No bouncing, either!

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+4/55/58+6/49+6/71+7/90PMPS 108+1/135

Hi Julie, Ruth, and Tricia. Thanks for the visits. The more I think about it, the more I think he was reacting to going low. It reminded me of when my first cat would come out of anesthesia and they would call me to get her out of her cage. I don't know. He sleeps really deeply a lot these days and has never done the growling. All I could think of was how do I get him out of the sink if he won't let me touch him. So I decided if couldn't have picked him up again I would just keep feeding him until I could. And yes he is generally the most mellow cat, except when he has to be in a cage at the vet's office. Hopefully this was a one time thing but I have a plan should it happen again.

Hey you have had a busy day today. Great numbers for max :-D and a lot of stress for you.

Re: 11/13 MAX AMPS 165+4/55/58+6/49PMPS 108+1/135+2/119+4.5/

Mr Greenie and Max are getting to be good friends now.  Surf those safe greens tonight Max. More vines for your back Elise.

Thanks, Wendy. My back is a little better tonight but after getting Max the last time is starting to talk to me a little. Ordinarily I would feel confident to call it a night but will give it one more hour to make sure Max doesn't throw me any surprises. I told him I'd stop poking if he doesn't drop much. With the last one I got him by his empty food dish where I put a teaspoon of lc an hour ago. No food this time. He got mostly 9% the other times tonight to hopefully keep him surfing. So far so good.

Thanks for stopping by Matt and Sarah.
