Georgia and Simon (GA)

Simon appears to be feeling much better this morning. Last night, he ate all his fuds overnight and slept most of the time on the bed with me (my little snuggle bug). He even had another poo this morning but I am going to get some miralax this morning to use in his food to help with the constipation from the bupe. He seems more alert and steadier on his feet.

Question: Both the last 2 nights, after about 1 hour after getting his dose of bupe, DH and I noticed Simon trying to get in the litterbox but instead of using it, started eating small pieces. Immediately, we went to the store and bought the non-clumping litter in case he does this while we are away. I went online and it could be a sign that he is anemic, although his bloodwork does not show anemia. Do you think it is because of the bupe? Or I guess it could have something to do with pancreatitis. I just never have seen this odd behavior before with him. Any suggestions or advice are welcome.

Hope everyone has safe travels today if they are off on a trip for Thanksgiving. We are staying put here and maybe will even just go out to a restaurant for thanksgiving with DH's mom. I have no desire to cook a big meal for 3 people and take care of Simon at the same time.
Happy Wednesday!

Re: 11/26 Simon AMPS 303 Question about litter eating

I don't know anything really about litter eating, but I'm glad Simon seems to be feeling better - yay for eating his overnight food and snuggling!! It sounds like you deserve to have someone else do the cooking....I'd say go to a restaurant!

Still sending prayers for Simon....

If you end up not want to go out and want something easy....this has become my new best friend.....no thinking required....in the oven for three hours at 375 and it is a couple of pounds....I cook them on Saturdays and munch through the week.....really nummy!

I also have no insight into the litterbox issue, but my vet has gotten used to me calling them for small things like this, so if it makes you feel better, I would give them a quick call and see what they have to say

Re: 11/26 Simon AMPS 303 Question about litter eating

Unless there's bleeding somewhere, anemia doesn't develop overnight. If Simon's labs were all good, I might chalk it up to his being woozy from the bupe. It wouldn't hurt to put a call in to your vet to be sure, though.

Re: 11/26 Simon AMPS 303 Question about litter eating

Morning Georgia ~O) ~O) ~O)

hmmmm... no clue on the litter thing, weird, but I am inclined to think maybe it is from the bupe??? Some cats will do that with some of the litters that are corn based. I am inclined to agree with Sienne. Mannie developed anemia too, but it was a progressive thing with him, and did not happen over night. I too would ask the vet, but if the BW didn't show it from his recent stay, he should be ok in that regard. I am elated that he is feeling better. HOORAY! I am so glad he is eating well, and shows little if any food aversions from when he became ill. kudos Simon!

Have a great day today,. I hope all goes well. And Simon? You surf well, keep on getting better!

I'm glad Simon is feeling better and eating for you. I don't have any idea on the lb thing. That is odd.

Re: 11/26 Simon AMPS 303 Question about litter eating

OK, so I do have experience with litter eating here. Nothing to do with bupe at all. Neko does get bupe now, but her snacking happened before we started bupe. She loves corn and I was using Worlds Best at the time. I've now moved onto Blue Buffalo walnut shell based litter. It's not tasty and is almost identical to Worlds Best in terms of clumping. The only difference is the white paws show a little brown on them instead of yellow - easier for me to tell when someone has just used the LB.

Good to hear that Simon is feeling better today.

I guess the litter eating thing is not very common. Wendy, now that I think about it, I did change Simon's litter recently because they didn't have his usual kind at the store. Maybe that is it! I am going to check with the vet, but unfortunately, he is in Disney World and won't be back until Monday.

Thank you everyone for your nice comments today about Simon eating. He has eaten pretty well all day. Yay! He is eating more of the fancy feast elegant medleys, but that is ok. We will go back to pate food when I know he is back on track. When I got home from work today, he even came downstairs to eat. He hasn't done that since he got sick.

I picked up cerenia tablets today to give to him on a daily basis and will keep giving Pepcid, ondansetron, and fluids. I am down to my last syringe of bupe and the vet's shipment didn't come in today. I will go to the ER clinic tomorrow to get some more since that is where I got it originally.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVE!
