Good Morning, Everyone,

I decided to wait another cycle before increasing Rusty's dose by a drop. He's in blue this morning, ate all of his nighttime food (pretty close to when we got up, I suspect), came into the dining room (where I was reading labels on catfood cans) to get me to come to schmooze, so of course I had to do that! Now he is napping on the couch and I am about to tackle the paperwork I have been putting off for 2 weeks.

I have a question about Ziwipeak foods. I bought a couple of cans in the city last week: lamb; rabbit and lamb. Both have an ingredient, fairly far down on the list of ingredients: "New Zealand Green Mussel". The people at the store didn't think this was fish, but I see that it is indeed seafood. Rusty is allergic to fish and fish oil. Do any of you feed this brand of food? It looks like it contains lots of meat and organ meats. I wonder if I ought to try it, considering Rusty's fish allergy. One of the things that Green Mussel is supposed to be good for is breathing and asthma control. I wonder if it would help Rusty's chronic congestion. Any thoughts?

Wishing you all a fine day and continuing to send out those healing vines to all in need,

Ella & Rusty

If that is Perna canaliculus, which I am more familiar with as green-lipped mussel, it is very widely used in prescription diets and in supplements used for the treatment of arthritis in pets. It contains substances that are good for joints, and it also is believed to have an anti-inflammatory effect. I have fed a dry food containing perna to my cats with arthritis, and also gave supplements containing it to Emily. It worked very well for her, in concert with the other treatments she was receiving (Pinkerton went off the food). If Rusty is not allergic to it, its anti-inflammatory properties might be helpful for his congestion.

eta: an allergy to finned fish does not necessarily mean that there will also be a allergy to shellfish or to molluscs. Having said that, Rusty is very sensitive, so it's a hard call to make.

No help on the food question.

Just love the schmooze, snooze mornings at your house! Lucky you. Lucky Rusty.

Thanks, Linda! I think I'll try him on one of the cans on a day when I will be home all day to observe.

Ella

p.s. I'll be e mailing you soon about New Years.

Linda is awesome! :-D Dosecrease averted for the day, Rusty, but it's still out there. Have "fun" with the paperwork, Ella. What is your reward? ;-)

Nice slide starting there, Rusty! Yes, I have friends who are allergic to fish, but not shellfish and vice versa. I hope it works for him. How does he react ot fishy food? Barfing, wheezing?

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 180, +5.5 158

Hi, Ella.

You might PM Rachel. I know she fed Ziwipeak, and China had lots of food allergies.

Work that juice, Rusty, or there's a dosecrease in your future!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 180, +5.5 158

Nice blue for Rusty. I'm glad he got you to schmooze a little. Much better than paperwork. Have a great day Ella!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 180, +5.5 158

Definitely a shell fish, quite common in New Zealand. If Rusty is allergic to shell fish, he will most likely be allergic to this. They are very "osyter like". We must have a kiwi on this list somewhere who can go into great detail on the greenies!

Thanks, guys,
I don't know if Rusty is allergic to shellfish. He had an allergic reaction to a fish oil supplement (wheezing) and has not had fish in any of his foods since (as far as I know!).

Lookit that +9!! I think Rusty will avoid the dosecrease yet again (at least for tonight).

Just got back from a planning session for the next quarter's mt. club outings schedule. We all had a nice lunch. Rusty was finishing up his lunch when we returned home.

bbl,

Nice slide for Rusty today. I hope the new food helps Rusty's breathing and he doesn't have an allergic reaction to it.

Nice slide down for Rusty and yet another threat of dosecrease averted!! :-D I would run that question by your vet, I know humans who are deathly allergic to shellfish but not fish- too bad they can't do allergy testing on kitties.

No advice on the food either but I say if it ain't broke don't fix it! Maybe give the food to a neighbor.

Those are some great numbers Rusty!

I hope you got thru a lot of your paperwork today and had sometime for a nice cuppa tea.

thank you!

Linda

Good luck with the new fuds experiment. I remember Vyktor from Australia used to eat Ziwipeak. It was one of the ones I was considering before we went to raw food. Interesting post from Linda, as usual. I'm always looking for something that helps arthritis.

Nice touchdown in the lagoon today Rusty. How about a repeat tomorrow? I'm sure the bean wouldn't hesitate to increase.
