Been a couple of crazy days with China doing the same thing she did last time she was "on the road"....staying low!

China was really good most of the drive yesterday...she got a little antsy about 2 1/2 hours into the drive, but I pulled over and gave her a break, and she was better. We're lucky we're alive though.

I pulled over in a busy truck stop (which also has parking for cars) and was looking in the back and talking to China...When I turned back around, there was an 18 wheeler not 2 feet from our front bumper and continuing to back up...If I had the car turned off, he would have backed straight into us and probably killed both mom and I. As it was, I had to throw it into reverse REAL fast and move away from him...as he continued to back into us.

The rest of the trip was uneventful, but today we were sitting in the theater waiting for the show to start when my phone rang. I recognized the number as the kennel where I'd left my dog, Peaches for the trip. I figured it wasn't good news, but I was not prepared for what she said.

They'd evidently had a fire. Peaches didn't survive. She was very apologetic...she was pretty much hysterical, and had no answers for me as to what caused the fire (the fire marshal was there investigating when she called) but knowing what caused the fire won't bring back my dog.

At this point, I can only thank God that I hadn't left my 2 civvies there and had decided long ago that China was coming with me....otherwise I'd have lost my entire family

That's terrible news. I am so very sorry for the loss of Peaches. What a shocking day for you. I wish there was some comfort I could offer. I will be thinking of you and peaches.

I am so sorry that this happened! What a horrible phone call to get. I am ever so sorry for the sudden loss of your drooler :(

Knowing what happened will not bring him back, but I sure hope they are able to provide you with some answers as to what happened.

Oh Chris, I'm so very sorry to read about Peaches. What a shock for you and how awful. The truck incident must have been so frightening as well. Rest in peace Peaches. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I am so sad and sorry to read about the loss of your drooler. What a horrible shock that must have been, and being the caring bean you are, I'm sure you have been imagining how awful it was for Peaches. I, too, am so glad you did not leave your Civvies or China there.

Someone was watching over you today when that truck was backing up! Did the driver ever realize what he almost did? Thank God you were paying attention!

I'm so sorry to hear about Peaches. How horrible! Sending hugs to you and I'm sure all the LL kitties will welcome Peaches at the Bridge. She's a member of our family too.

I am so sorry for your loss of your dog Peaches. Many years ago my dad(GA) complained, actually got kinda of snippy with the vets office they took their dogs at the time because they did not have a sprinkler system.
I guess he got all over them about what would happen to the animals there in cages if a fire happened. So the vet at that time who owned it had one installed.
Glad you and DM and China are alright.

OMG Chris, I am so sorry about Peaches. so so sorry. How incredibly tragic. I am overhwlemed also to read about the truck scenario too. Major hugs to you. Tons of prayers for peace and comfort for you. Rest in peace Peaches, your mama misses you very much.

Our hearts go out to you and your family. What a tragedy. We pray that Peaches' death was swift and that she did not suffer. There is a new star in the heavens tonight as Peaches dons her golden wings. The LL kitties will remember her in their Full Moon Circle of Remembrance tomorrow night.
