Ella was high all night and was a bit grumpy when I poked her this morning.

I've been wondering about something...Can allergies affect bg? In the last few months she's been rubbing her nose and sometimes when she takes a big breath she makes a weezy sound. I've also seen some clear mucous come out of her nose when she's trying to "blow" it and she also gets itchy ears.
Before her pancreatitis, I took her into the vet because I thought she had an allergy as she was rubbing her nose and had a pink inflamed eye. The vet gave her a steroid shot to see if that would help (probably the reason she got pancreatitis) and sent us on our way. Her eye and nose rubbing stopped so it seemed to work.

Supposedly we have been forecasted to have a really bad allergy season because we had an early spring. Just wondering if allergies can affect her FD in anyway.

You can feed her a small amount now, since it's only +8, to slow the drop.

she's refusing to eat. she hasn't had a great appetite today. she's pacing a bit.

ok just syringed her some food...she's a princess...and did a 8.5 test which was 133. Will check her bg in half an hour.

I hope so. Going to test her agian in a few minutes to see if she's going to bounce. She's so exhausted!
I did a ketone/urine test and it said she didn't have any glucose in her urine which is odd because she was so high this morning. It was my understanding that it measures the urine in the system from several hours before. Am I wrong?

Nice catch Tamara!!

Urine ketone strips only tell you if there are ketones in the urine. They don't tell you about the glucose unless you have the diastix which have two color patches on them....one for glucose and one for ketones. It typically takes
a little bit of time for glucose to show up in the urine and ECID. So if you have glucose urine strips, you can try and determine what her renal threshold is by using those strips and seeing at what point glucose shows up; of course,
with the delay in showing up and clearing, it takes alot of urine testing with the strips.

I know I've mentioned this before but Ella's bg measured 113 prior to her bout with pancreatitis. Is it possible that the blues might be normal for her? I guess I need to take into condiseration that her blood was taken at the vet's office so it may have spiked.

i fed her a tbsp...i'm supposed to be shooting her at 6:15 tonight. hopefully she won't be too low!

I wouldn't feed her, since it's +10. Maybe others will say differently.
The 115 and the 95 are pretty close. You may be shooting a green number tonight, though.

Well I can do it at 6:30pm to make it 100 minutes. Can I move the shot a half an hour earlier in the morning or would that me too risky with a low number?

If you're going to be gone to work tomorrow morning, I'd only move the shot time by 15 minutes, but that's just me. I'm a worry wart. If she's high enough tomorrow morning, you can move it by 30 minutes earlier, if you want to.

Thanks...so for tonight should I make sure there are two hours between the time I fed her the tbsp mixture and the ps just to ensure I'm not shooting into a food spike?

I think shooting at 6:30pm tonight and 6:15am tomorrow will be fine.

Should I get a +11? She's zonked out on the bed!
By waking her up I do run the risk of her begging for food:)

My civvie Ginger has been MeowPurring for food for 30 minutes and I ignore her. She always wants to be fed at +11 :roll:

She is SO sleepy today and doesn't have the greatest appetite. I am going to do her next bg at 6:15 and give her plenty of time to eat. There is no way I'm shooting her that low without some food in her. She's usually ravenous now...especially if she's low. I hope she doesn't have anything else going on with her.

Did you shoot the insulin? I would go ahead and shoot, if you did not. As long as you're going to be home tonight and have all the supplies, I think it's fine to give the insulin and see what she does with it.
As far as eating, my cat often doesn't eat as much when he is in the lower numbers. She acts fine otherwise, right?

I feel sick to my stomache! I did her bg at 6:15 pm but didn't shoot until about 6:40 so do I check +1 at 7:40pm?

I'm sorry you feel sick to your stomach. I wish we lived closer, and we could sit on the porch and talk and monitor and wait for the tests together.
I'm glad you shot rather than skipped or BCS'd or stalled for hours. Yes, your +1 is 1 hour after the shot. If you want you can give her a little MC (a teaspoon of HC mixed in with or on top of her LC) to get her into a nice surf.

I wish we could do that too Dyana!!! I'm SO glad you are here with me now:) She wasn't very hungry but I'll try and give her a bit of a snack with some mc gravy. I don't think I have hc as the canadian whiskas puch i got was not on binly's list. I do have lot's of maple syrup tho!

Do they sell the Grilled variety of FF or Friskies Prime Filets in Canada? That's what I use for HC. They have lots of carbs, and my cat's love them, on the few occasions they get any :roll:

I have yet to find them! I've been to multiple pet stores, the super market and 711. I have the friskies chicken and salmon dinner in gravy (shredded),whiskas chicken in sauce bites and ff white meat chicken and shredded beef hors d'oeuvre.

Ella's breathing rate has increased again...I hate to say it so I won't but will let you know bg results in 20!

You are doing great! I've been checkin in on you guys every couple days, but since you are getting such great advice...I just sit back :)

The Fancy Feast is available at Safeway/Walmart/London Drugs up here. They are talking about the "Grilled Chicken" chunk Fancy Feast varieties for HC. They have gravy that most use for the HC here.

Why does Ella drop at the end of her cycle...especially in the pm? Is that because her nadir is late?

Ella has had an off day. She's been very lethargic and her appetite hasn't been normal. I've noticed some clear, foul smelling, liquid around her mouth,perhaps drool from excess wet food? I've found little wet spots where she has been laying her chin. She's also needed quite a bit of encouragement to eat. With the exception of this morning, I've had to syringe her with food all day. She didn't appraoch me for any meals but would eat a bit if offered by syringe only. I had her playing in the morning but she's been laying low for most of the day and not purring much. She had neg ketones and a nice poo. Can bounces have a great effect on the body or does it sound like i should be concerned about something else?

Hi Tamara, another west coaster watching how well you've been handling things. Ella sure is giving you a crash course and I'm learning lots that I hope I'll be able to use one day.

Another place to check for FF is Canada Tire, of all places. At least in the west they carry it.

Thanks for visiting. I'm definitely on a crash course and I'm glad there are others with me:)

So I just checked her mouth and more clear foul saliva forming. I peeked in and her gums are red around some teeth. I'm going to have to take her in to the vet tomorrow:(
