Lots of NDW yesterday and slow slideage down.

7/18 Recap:
AMPS 352 +3 415 +6.5 375 +9 374
PMPS 349 +3 285 +6 276

I have a rule with Neko at night. If I see a +3 (before bed test) of yellow which is lower than PMPS, then I get up and do a mid-cycle test. Well it was lower last night, a whole 9 points!. Sheesh, coulda slept through that one. But it did tell me it was a slow slideage night and I was not surprised at the yellow this morning.

Neko's currently out on 2nd yard patrol, enjoying the very nice cat weather. Sunny with the odd cloud so not too hot. She achieved CPC as usual, with an assist to Theo to make sure he got in too. With this nice weather, Neko hasn't used an indoor LB for days. One of these mornings I'm going to have to follow her outside with the ketone strips.

Re: 7/19 Neko AMPS 242

Hi guys .. I used to hate it when we'd get up in the middle of the night, only to think, dang we could of slept through this! I wonder what your neighbors will think .. of you following your kitty around while she's trying to potty! have a great day!

+5.5 111 +6.5 73
I guess last nights slow yellow slide meant some action was coming!

@Devon - Neko just made getting up in the middle of the night worthwhile!

Re: 7/19 Neko AMPS 242 +3 200 +5.5 111 +6.5 73

I'm with you about testing in the middle of the night. Sometimes I get up for a disappointing test and wonder WHY Hershey can't let me know nothing exciting will be happening during the night and let me sleep interrupted. Glad she showed you a pretty green!!

Have fun following her around the yard with the ketone strip! Maybe you could get someone to video the experience?!

Have a great day -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

+7 54
Lowest number I've ever tested on Neko. Just gave her a couple tsp MC to get her up a bit.

My DM called not too long after the +6.5 test and I had to ask her if I could hang up and call back because I had to test the cat. Glad I did but I feel a little bit guilty.

ETA:
@Libby - some things should just remain private. Including a lady in her boudoir!

Wow!! What a lovely day for Neko!!!! This is such a nice cycle.

That's funny about her privacy in her boudoir. She's just a little lady!

OK - correction time, I messed up my +hours and was off by one hour. SS now fixed along with my subject line. Looks like nadir was at a classic time, although hard to tell because she got some MC at +6 and +6.5. I'm holding off on anything other than dried salmon snacks to see where this goes.

@Marje - and to think I was about ready to up the dose again, and was giving myself the wet noodle lashing for wimping out with a .25 increase last time instead of .5

Holy guacamole, look at those greens!
Nice job Neko and Wendy! Surf, surf, surf!

Maybe I'll be tuning into your channel tonight Wendy?!

FWIW, sometimes a flat yellow cycle is a signal that an active cycle is coming up.

Just an FYI: Because an acro cat has a working pancreas, you need to be careful around green numbers. A working pancreas means that when you give food, the pancreas begins to produce it's own insulin. If numbers are dropping, you need to tread carefully so that food doesn't add more insulin into the insulin that you've shot. You may want to use HC (vs. MC) just so you have a buffer. Just like with everything else feline, ECID. You can try MC but don't hesitate to pull out the bigger guns if you're not getting a response.

Hi Wendy, thanks for visiting us. What an impressive slow slideage today! Maggie is envious of Neko using the outdoor yard as an lb! I had to telll my sister to hold on til I took Maggie's bg yesterday. She was so understanding, as she has a cat, too, but not diabetic! Good luck with following Neko outdoors to get a ketone test! :-D

So happy to see Neko with all those green ! Surf on Neko! Show your green power!

Re: 7/19 Neko AMPS 242 +6 54 +7 63 +8 63 +9 78

+9 79
Wow, green from +5.5 to +9!

I got a call from Dr. Custis at CSU. He and Dr. Timian have discussed Neko and think it's a go. Dr. Timian will be emailing me possible dates.

@Tamara - yup, a lot of guacamole today. I somehow suspect she won't be keeping this up much longer. At least I hope not, I don't want to shoot low.

@Sienne - she's had yellow cycles before where nothing happened so I wasn't sure which way she'd go. I did have HC on standby when she was in her 50's. It was a chance to experiment with MC. I would have gone to HC if she had dropped any more. I didn't want to give her LC because I didn't want to get the pancreas working without some extra carbs on board. Last time she surfed I just gave her freeze dried treats but she was lower this time so I was more nervous.

@Ann - Neko just went outside. I should be following her but DH said she's just out watching hummingbirds. I kept Neko in for the first 3 months we had her, but then she told us she wanted to use the outdoor LB by peeing on our bed. Especially for peeing. Apparently poop is OK in an LB.

@Helen - greens are nice and I'm glad they've come up a bit. As Sienne says, you have to be a lot more careful with an acro cat and greens.

Re: 7/19 Neko PMPS 280

+10 125 PMPS 280
I suspect this is the beginning of a rather large bounce. Up 165 pts in less than 2 hours.

Neko was feeling pretty good during her surf but I'm surprised she didn't bug me for food at her lowest. She was just snoozing in the basket in the solarium. We did the AM +10 with her stretched out on a patch of lawn at the front. Lots of scritching and purring to go with it. She's now back out for the last bug hunt of the day. I should probably be out with the ketone strips, but the mosquitoes are out in abundance.

Re: 7/19 Neko PMPS 280

wendy, fantastic day for the little girl! i looked at her ss just now, and as you scroll down, and squint your eyes, there was a whole section of ugly reds and pinks and now VOILA! she's looking fantastic. lots of blues, little bits of yellows with just a sprinkling of pinks and reds. she might bounce from those greens today - so hang onto your hat.. my crystal ball thinks she might go up even higher this evening.

don't hesitate to give high carb or karo if you need to, but many of our diabetic cats here have working pancreases, acro or not - which is why they can go OTJ. you just need to know neko and know how she responds. you're gaining that information and experience every day. she's been acro all along - she isn't going to suddenly change her responses. i give punkin hc if he goes below 50, but also make decisions based upon where it is in the cycle. later in the cycle you an just give low carb and see if she'll surf. early on in the cycle, you can be slightly more aggressive.

all very exciting! kudos! enjoy the moment.

eta: just thinking if you want to test out neko's response, just do some extra testing after you've fed her. if she has a response to the carbs from her pancreas releasing insulin, her numbers would go down. if she gets a food spike from her food, then she is having a "normal" diabetic response to the carbs.

+3 421
And Neko tries to reach out to the new moon!

@Julie - I do like how the spreadsheet seems to be more pastel, less darker colours. And I'm not sure a crystal ball was needed to figure out where she was going tonight. Bonus, I get to sleep through all the ugly colours coming next. Regarding food, when I've done a +1, Neko seems to get about a 30 point food spike after her raw food. When we go to Colorado we'll be going back to Wellness, so can check what she does on canned LC. Neko's low point today was +6 so that also factored into the MC decision. If it was earlier, I will break out the HC for sure.
