2/11 Hershey

HAPPY MONDAY...I think...

You may recall that after a busy night, Hershey earned a DEC 2/10 (from .6u to .35u). PM 2/11 brought another busy evening while the depot was draining. It soon became apparent that Hershey was not impressed with the decrease, so 2/13 AM we INC to .5u. Our thinking was that if the .6u had clearly seemed too much, maybe he'd like .5u as he has several times before. We were also hesitant to go back to .6u with Doug's upcoming surgery. During these days, we also compared the Relion Confirm to the Relion Prime we bought (that uses much less expensive strips). We were pleased with how closely they compared. (As of 2/13, we are only using the Prime.)

The .5u dose looked promising...briefly...Tonight, we increased back to .6u. Hoping he likes it...He doesn't seem to mind all these yellows and all P's are in place.

Been running on little sleep this week, trying to get last minute stuff done before Doug's shoulder surgery this morning. We had to be there at 6am and were home by 11am. (I don't do mornings well... @-) ) They gave him a pain block (sorry, the exact term is escaping my foggy brain right now) in his neck that has long since worn off. We know tonight will be the worst of it as his body is wondering what in the world happened to it today. Hoping we can get some sleep tonight because everything is more difficult when you're exhausted. So, now it's 6 weeks immobilized in a sling, at which point we'll learn when he can go back to work. (The surgeon is saying 12 weeks recovery time.) The sweet kitties welcomed him home, showing extra love and sniffing/rubbing all over him to remove the vetty smell. He can't seem to get warm enough and Oreo has been kind enough to spend a good deal of time in his lap, sharing his body heat. :-D

Hoping to get to some condos...Have a great night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 2/18 Hershey AMPS(

hi Libby,

best wishes to Doug - hoping for a speedy recovery and that everything turns out great!

Good luck on Hershey's slight dose increase - hoping it works out.

Re: 2/18 Hershey AMPS(

Hope Doug gets better soon. Must be very stressful for you Libby, please take care.
Hershey, surf the blue!

Re: 2/18 Hershey AMPS(

Good luck with the new dose. I hope it reminds Hershey soon why he should need less insulin.

Healing vines to Doug. I'm in a sling as of today (elbow fracture) but not sure for how long. 6 weeks to heal for me so I can sympathize, especially the part about finding a comfortable way to sleep. Thank goodness for kitty loving.

I hope Doug is feeling better soon! My younger brother had a torn Labrum and scuffed rotator cuff a few years back - the first night was a little rough, but improved fairly quickly after that. Keeping the ice water circulating through the shoulder compress really helped him a lot.

Hi Libby - many healing vines for Doug. I hope that goes well. Goodluck too with the new dose for Hershey. Back to the greens again for you Hershey?

I hope Doug recovers quickly and fully from his shoulder surgery. And how nice of Oreo to help keep him warm. cat_pet_icon
Such a thoughtful kitty!

Good luck with the fine tuning of Hershey's dose.

Prayers for a successful surgery and healing vines to get well soon.
My DH has had 3 rotator cuff surgeries... the last one fixed it - with a much better dr.
It is rough to get thru but you will, one day at a time...

Hi guys,

We are hoping that Doug is feeling better today and that he will have a swift recovery from the surgery. Tons of healing vines heading his way.

Hershey, work that dose. Your mamabean needs you to have good, safe numbers. She's got a lot on her plate.

Libby: hang in there!!

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Hey, Denise - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug. Six weeks can seem like a long time when you're in pain and dependent on others for things you're used to doing for yourself. Thanks on the increase, too. Hope Hershey likes it!

Hey, Helen - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug, and me, too. I know the first few days will be more painful for Doug and stressful for us - taking it one day at a time! I DO wish Hershey would listen about the blues, but lately he seems to prefer the yellows - maybe he wants to look like a bumble bee??

Hey, Wendy - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug and Hershey. Yikes on the elbow fracture! I'll seek out your condo for details. Hope you heal quickly!!

Hey, Amanda - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug. He said his friend was given one of those shoulder compresses when he had rotator cuff surgery, too. Doug's was a separation on the ac joint (top of the shoulder). Last night was much smoother than I expected, but we've had a couple of bumps today.

Hey, Sienne - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug. Yes, I hope Hershey like the dose, too. He seemed to like it too much, but I fear he won't notice the difference from .5u up to .6u. Today, I've been second-guessing myself that we should've raised to .75u.

Hey, Michelle - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug and Hershey. I hope Hershey listens about the greens. I don't know where he got the idea that the yellow floor is the place to be. :YMSIGH:

Hey, Carolyn - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug and Hershey. Yes, ma'am, it was thoughtful of Oreo to help keep Doug warm. Chewing on the greenery of Doug's carnation? Not so thoughtful...grrr

Hey, Rhiannon - Thanks for the prayers for Doug. So glad the third surgery fixed your husband's rotator cuff. Definitely taking it one day at a time. Today, it's been more like one hour at a time, but I know it'll get better.

Hey, Ella - Thanks for the well-wishes for Doug. He was already feeling a little stir-crazy today, so between rains we took a walk around the neighborhood. It took a lot out of him, but that's to be expected. Thanks on Hershey, too, hope he listens and stays in safe (maybe if not green, at least blue?) numbers. Thanks for the hugs, too!

Thanks, again, for coming by to see us. It's always nice to see friends! Sorry I didn't get to any condos last night - heading that way now.

I'm so sorry I missed this yesterday but sending Doug tons of healing prayers and wishes. I hope he is not in pain and that he will recover quickly.

Re: 2/18 Hershey AMPS(215)PMPS(239)+5.75(215) INC & Doug sur

Hey, Mary - Thank you for the well-wishes and prayers for Doug. I think it'll take us a few days to adjust to our new 'normal,' but we'll get there. While it may require a little more effort, I wouldn't want anybody else taking care of my guys!

Hey, Amy - Thanks for the well-wishes and prayers for Doug. Even when you've prepared all you can...something comes up. I'll be glad when it's time for his post-op appt on Friday and we can get a progress report from the surgeon...

Hey, Marje - Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes. Amen on the no pain and quick recovery! Of course, it's already not quick enough for him. ;-)
