Good Morning, Everyone,

Rusty had his "no-hairball hack" at dawn (it is not a hairball, but his lung congestion, as I have learned; he has not been diagnosed with asthma: the IDEXX pathologist's diagnosis is "mild/moderate pyogranulomatous inflammation). This afternoon I can pick up the Allerplex at his vet's and we will begin treatment. The formula includes as one of its principal ingredients Fenugreek, which apparently can ". . .soften and dissolve hardened masses of accumulated mucus . . ." from the lungs, helping the body ". . . expel mucus and phlegm from the bronchial tubes more easily." (Standard Process Allerplex brochure). This is what Rusty needs. But apparently Fenugreek and another of the principal ingredients--Tillandsia usneoides--can cause blood glucose levels to lower, especially if used in connection with diabetes medicines, so we will have to watch Rusty carefully and possibly adjust his insulin dose to prevent hypos. In any event, I hope that the Allerplex will help him and that he will not be allergic to any of the ingredients, and that he will accept it either in his food, or in a Pill Pocket. Lots of hopes here! Fingers and paws crossed.

Rusty has a really good AMPS--back in his old range. He had a good test, shot, breakfast (first sitting) and is napping in his little bed by the radiator. He was asleep when I finished reading a chapter in my book, so I didn't wake him for a schmooze.

Wishing everyone a fine day,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112; soon to begin Allerplex

Morning Ella, nice report on Rusty this morning, and it looks like the LagoonMeister will soon be back to supervising. Mags is waiting for him. Sending lots of healing vines and fingers and paws crossed for the Allerplex to help Rusty. Sounds like you've done your homework and research on it all. Have a wonderful day.

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112; soon to begin Allerplex

Hi Ella

Oh, I hope this new med works it's wonders for Rusty, and he can get rid of the annoying mucus, in his throat? lungs? bronchial tubes? Coughing can't feel good for him, as well as making you feel bad, hearing it.

I wonder if the higher bg from the Allerplex, would be offset by the Pill Pocket. I give Checkers his Tapazole in a PP, and it doesn't seem to affect his bg.

Have a very nice day

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112; soon to begin Allerplex

Hi Ella. So nice to see Rusty back to his usual numbers. I'm sure he has an outing to the Lagoon planned for today. I hope the Allerplex works to clear up his congestion.

Have a great day.

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112, +5.5 271!!; soon to begin Allerplex

Well, I don't know where the 271 came from (tested twice, the first time was 283!). Perhaps the 112 was a bad test strip, or perhaps Rusty went low last night and the 112 was the beginning of a bounce, or perhaps onset hadn't started yet; and then there is the fact that Rusty ate most of his breakfast about 45 minutes before the +5 test. Whatever. This morning I "explained" to him that he would be taking Allerplex, so the 271 might be his reaction. He is very smart.
Anyway, he wanted to schmooze for a while after the beans finished their lunch and he had grazed a bit at his. I'm leaving soon to take Edward to his chiropractor and pick up the Allerplex at the vet.

Wishing all a good afternoon,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112, +5.5 271, +9 239; Allerplex tomorrow

Hi again,
I got my Allerplex at the vet's and will start tomorrow: 1 capsule SID. I intend to put the powder from the capsule into a little baby food and water. I'll be sure to taste it first. One of the ingredients is supposed to taste like maple syrup. There is maple flavoring in Rusty's hairball gel, which he considers a treat, so maybe he'll like the Allerplex, too! nailbite_smile.

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112, +5.5 271, +9 239; Allerplex tomorrow

Hi Ella,

Have you considered using a vaporizor? Just wonder if it would help clear the congestion. I'm treat a cat with congestion due to an infection (long story). I set up a small dog crate and covered it with dense blankets. The vaporizer is outside the crate, but going directly into the crate. The cat goes in for 5-10 minutes 3 times a day. He is breathing much better.

Sending good vibes to Rusty and all the best to you and Edward.

Re: 3/7 Rusty AMPS 112, +5.5 271, +9 239; Allerplex tomorrow

I hope the Allerplex is just what Rusty needs to help with his congestion. Hopefully it won't affect his BG too much. It's good you will be around to monitor him.

Re: 3/7 Rusty PMPS 249; Allerplex tomorrow

Hi Ella, good luck with the new meds tomorrow. I hope it clears Rusty up and gets him into nicer numbers. I remember reading on some website about herbal remedies that were good for diabetics, and it mentioned fenugreek.

What a beautiful picture of the bobcat. Someone must have been quite close to get that pic.

Rusty came down pretty well after his high for the day at +5.5. Back in blue tonight! Thank you all for visiting. Think good thoughts that Rusty will do well on the Allerplex.

Ni ni,

Ella & Rusty (who is still downstairs, batting his bell balls around)

Hi Ella, paws crossed that the Allperplex works for Rusty. I am very interested in hearing how it goes because it may be something I want to try with Kismet.
