Just spoke with Pepper's vet. His acro test results came back. His number was greater than 521. Apparently the test can't measure any higher. We have a consult scheduled for tomorrow afternoon with a cardiologist. I want to thank Jill for posting the Acromegaly posts again. I'll be reading them shortly.

At least the acromegaly is confirmed and you can move forward with the next steps. Keep us posted.

ok, so now we "know" pepper has acromegaly... not that it's any big surprise, but it's a tough to swallow the diagnosis. the thing is, pepper doesn't give a flying flip about this new label. he's the same adorable kitty who simply wants your love and attention.
you're already doing an awesome job with him. once you've had time to digest this new diagnosis, i know you'll read through all the acro information posted on the site. please ask any questions you may have. remember, you are not alone. there are many here to help and support you!

I couldn't agree with Jill more. Pepper doesn't care what label you put on him (other than, "What a good kitty!"). He's the same wonderful cat he was 5 min. before the vet called. Please let us know if and how we can help.

((((Nancy)))) Big HUGE hugs coming your way. :YMHUG: I know it's hard to actually hear the diagnosis, even though you expected it.
The IGF-1 number is just a number. Neko's was 440. It can vary over time and in the words of the internal medicine vet we saw at CSU "there isn’t any correlation between size of tumor and long-term expectations or IGF-1 numbers". That's a direct quote, I recorded our conversation. I'm glad you are getting in to see the cardio vet so quickly. If you have a recording app on your phone, I'd recommend using it. I remember feeling overwhelmed at the time and finding it hard to remember details.

Thanks to everyone who dropped by to offer their support. I'm just trying not to worry too much tonight about Pepper's appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow. Thanks, Wendy, for the info about IGF-1 numbers. I was afraid that a high number had some dire significance. I'm giving Pepper some extra pampering and treats tonight.

(((((Nancy))))) I know this isn't a big surprise, but even if you are expecting the acro diagnosis it still feels like a big punch in the gut. Extra treats sound like a good plan, both for Pepper and for you. Take a little time, then you can get back down to business.
