My fiance did his AM shot and was not able to get AMPS (she's still learning how to get blood). I did one an hour before and he was 301 +11 from last night. I just got home for lunch and checked him and he's 55 +3. I'll be here for an hour but then he'll be alone for at least 4 hours.

I will test before I leave but should I consider leaving some HC food when I leave?

Yes, leave some food out for him. He could be coming down even more from that 55. His nadir seems to jump around a lot, +4 to +6.

Can you test him 2 times before you have to leave again? I'd like to see if that 55 is a rising or falling number.

I just retested about 20 mins after the last and got 53. I'll test again in 20 minutes

I'm certainly glad to be seeing a lot more blues and greens instead of yellow and pink lately but he's really making me work now

About the same.

Leave out plenty of high carb food.

Make sure any other cats or pets can't eat it.

Deb has a point. If there are other kitties in the house, you may need to isolate Whitey with his HC food when you leave.

Is there any chance your fiance will be home ahead of you and can test and feed, if necessary.

Just checked again and he's at 50.

I am going to lock him in a separate room with a can of HC gravy lovers (his favorite). Fiance should be home before me but it will be past the +6 mark. We have 3 cats and they each get a can of FF Classic at each meal time and I noticed that today there is about 1 1/2 cans still sitting in the bowls and they usually eat it all within 2 hours so maybe he hasn't been eating much today

I secluded him with a can of FF Gravy Lovers and ate most of it before I could leave the room. Hopefully that will spike his bgl for the next few hours

As luck would have it , my job let us go early so I just got home and tested and he's 39 , 15 minutes short of +6. He at the entire can of HC food and he's acting fine. I just rubbed a little karo on his gums. I will watch and test again

Test again about 20-30 minutes after the karo. Looks like Whitey wants a deduction! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: So glad you got off early today!

Yes...please test in 30 minutes.

I know the 39 is scary. Just a couple thoughts:

You could probably just use a couple big tsps of HC gravy and a little drop of karo because he is mid cycle. If you did that and he didn't move up much, you could give a little more.

You just want to be sure he does not get so full that if he decided to stay lower for longer, that he wouldn't eat. So we usually go with a couple tsps, retest, then repeat if he's not coming up.

It's ok to take the 911 off now.

FYI this means he gets a dose decrease tomorrow down to 0.75IU. Do your syringes have half unit markings?

Also another test as wendy said please. We cant be complacent as food wears off and the cat can drop again.

Thanks everyone. Once again, I am glad to have support of so many experts. You are all great! I do have 1/2 unit marked syringes. I will be home for the rest of the day/night and I have 200 test strips so I'll keep on him. He is active now. He just chased after one of the other cats and then went over and scratched our cat tree.

Nice catch on the 39! It does look like Whitey is looking for a reducie :mrgreen: It does get more nailbite_smile the greener they get but it's worth it if it gets them into remission :-D :mrgreen: :-D Have a great and safe night :smile:

Dont know the backstory here so i apologise but i think a preshot test may have given you warning this could happen. Glad you were home testing!.

I just tested him again 20 minutes later and now it is 139. Is that possible from just the corn syrup? I might have given more then I should because I put it on my finger which might be more then a couple of drops. Looks like he is good for now but I will keep checking every hour

I didn't get a pre shot today because we've gotten off schedule so my fiance had to do the shot after I left for work this morning to be +12 and I didn't want to risk going an hour early or even 15 minutes early with the way he's bouncing around lately. She tried to get blood but she was unsuccessful. I got a +11 of 301 before I went to work so I figured he would be safe to shoot on time.

I'm also concerned about the fact he had a HC can today +3 and he accidentally got a can of HC a couple of days ago and he's got some corn syrup when low a couple of times too. Will that have a lasting effect on his bgl numbers? Finally, should I do the reduction tonight or wait for his am shot tomorrow?

yes the rise is the syrup - please get another test in 30 minutes in case he drops when the syrup wears off. We want two rising numbers without syrup to ensure he is ok.

If that happens again at least get a test before you leave the house.. it will let you know roughly where he is. And teach the fiance to test ;)

Depends on whether he is high enough to shoot tonite and if he is bouncing. I will let the others comment.

The HC food and corn syrup do wear off, and sometimes fairly quickly, so that's why we suggest you keep monitoring. In my Neko, HC lasts 2 hours, corn syrup somewhat shorter.

As for tonight's shot, it depends if Whitey bounces. If he's over 300 at PS time tonight, give him 1.0 U to help him through the bounce and then go to .75U tomorrow morning. We call that one time reduction delay "shooting through the bounce". If he's under 300 at PS, take the reduction tonight.

Could you update your first subject line so people know Whitey is safe now?

Just retested after 30 mins and he's at 166. I'll keep monitoring and testing until his next shot and as suggested I'll shoot 1 unit if he's over 300 tonight and .75 if he's under. Thanks again
