3/25 Recap:
AMPS 81:D +6 128 +9 82:D
PMPS 144 +4 184 +9 107

Neko's starting today with her favourite preshot number of late. As DH left the cove to do TFS this morning, I almost joked to him about her being 144 this morning. Careful cat - you are almost getting predictable! Don't I wish. :p

Another rowing night of little sleep. 1:30 AM elevator wake up call (pick up cat on bed). 3:30 - sound of heaving (put cat back down on floor, pick up foamy vomit), 4:40 - up for test and rowing. Definitely btb time when we got home after rowing. Kitties are enjoying a delightfully warm sunny solarium with the screen open bringing in the smells of spring. Just a little ago Neko came and "helped" me make hot cross buns. No matter where she is in the house, she knows when the butter comes out for baking. Butter Sunday came one day early this week. :joyful::joyful:

Happy Caturday everyone. Vines going out to all in need, including Cinco, Crystal, Doodles, Gus, Harvey, Smokey.

Not much sleep happening at your house by the sound of it Wendy, unless you're a cat. Hope you and your family have a relaxing and happy Easter.

Hey Wendy,

I'm trying to search for this since I've read it before but it's quicker for me to just ask...was Dr. Lunn involved in Neko's SRT? I remember you saying you went to CSU for it. I've been in touch with her and she's agreed to look over Peek-a-Boos CT images. Because I declined treatment at Purdue, it was never discussed if his hydrocephalus would interfere with SRT, so I guess I just want her assessment. I am baffled why Peekaboo remains regulated at only 4 units of Lantus in over a year. I don't know...SRT scares me and I may have missed the boat anyway with him nearly 2 years in...it just is something I think about often...

Have a Great Easter and I will be waiting for my hot cross buns delivery !
:p

I would love to see numbers like those on my kitties' spreadsheets! Go ahead, bore me to death with blue!

I just love it when my kitties help me cook - someone always gets stepped on.

@Dawn and Peek-a-Boo We went to CSU after Dr. Lunn left, though I believe @julie & punkin (ga) met her. But I have emailed Dr. Lunn before and she is great. I contacted her when Neko's Acro tumor came back last year. @Grayson & Lu also went to NCSU and saw Dr. Lunn after their SRT at CSU. As for size of dose, I saw a paper by the folks at the Royal Veterinary College in London who tested every cat coming into their diabetes remission clinic for acromealy. They found acros with doses from 1 unit to 35 units with an average of 7 units, thought there are a few higher out there. The RVC are also great at answering questions, though they don't have experience in SRT, they are a good source for general Acro info.

Hot cross buns are for my parents!

Yo Neko, No need to swim with those sharks! How much butter did you eat, anyway? Come back to the shallows, please!
~ LagoonMeister Rusty

I remember how much Stu loved butter. Once, before a dinner party, he put a long tongue lick down the whole stick! (I turned it over and no one was the wiser!).

Happy Easter! Hot Cross buns sound great.

Don't you love having feline kitchen helpers? My droolers really enjoy their job as the clean-up crew...

Happy Easter - and joy your hot cross buns!

She probably got 1/8 tsp of unsalted butter. But she headed to the less scary part of the lagoon with a little help from HC. And just because I had the test kit out, civie Theo = 67.

Looks like Neko is in for another reduction with the 41. Nice numbers for Theo. I hope he doesn't turn diabetic.

I didn't meet Dr. Lunn, although we talked several times by phone before we went. Dr. Lunn happened to be on vacation that particular week. We had Dr. Jessica Timian as our main vet - and she was great, too. Everyone at CSU was, in fact. I was very impressed with the quality of the staff.

Neko! Get away from the sharks! Swim a little higher, little one!

Still in surf mode. :D Reduction taken.

@Dawn and Peek-a-Boo Dr. Susan LaRue is the head of radiation oncology at CSU now and was when we were there. She's another very knowledgeable person, but from the radiation side of things.

Looking great Neko! So good to see! And glad you are getting to enjoy some of this sunny weather- it has been so gorgeous here (although it is raining now:))

Beautiful serf, Neko!
It's raining in downtown now, but it was a beautiful sunny day today.
I bet Neko and Theo enjoyed lots of sun bathing.
How's Theo doing?

Hmmm hot cross buns..... I bought some at the Cobs.
They were very yummy!

I'm the lucky one - we had the best of both worlds. Although Dr. Lunn had left CSU by the time we went, I met her at NC State when G had his ultrasound shortly after his IGF-1 test result came back in April 2012. Jessica Timian was also our primary at CSU - she and the rest of Dr. Lunn's team were still there in July 2012 the week he & Tracy's Leo had SRT.

Grayson had the best of care from Dr. Lunn. Every time / any time we were back up at NCSU (follow-up checks for his hypothyroidism, ultrasounds, etc over nearly 3 yrs), she would always check in with us, and she was always supportive of the residents who were interested in Acro. I remember one coming into the exam room and saying, "Dr. Lunn told me about Grayson - I ASKED to have his case because I'm fascinated by acromegaly research!" How many times do we ever hear that from a vet?

When Grayson got his final dx, Dr. Lunn was there with me. We were so proud that he had "survived and beaten" acromegaly, but saddened to know that he couldn't win the battle with Eosinophilic Leukemia/HES. She grieved for him more than any vet I've ever worked with. After I made his Shutterfly book, I went to Raleigh to see his brick paver at the vet school, and met Kathy Lunn and Susan for lunch. Kathy had asked me to speak with Susan after her Gretchen was dx with Acro. She took the time to look through his book and share so many thoughts on Grayson and his conditions, and how he is still giving through the help that we give others (yes, she knows about this group). She is so amazingly kind and compassionate. Like a great coach that does more than coach a sport, the inspiration that we feel reaches well beyond the extent that most would expect.

I think anyone who goes or calls to consult, or goes for treatment in the US, is getting the benefit of her knowledge. Her team, those who have gone elsewhere and are now providing SRT at other facilities... that knowledge and skill is a gift that keeps giving. And benefitting our little [big] ones!

BTW - I LOVE the graphic!!!

Hey Wendy,
I just got a chance to catch up here...thanks for the additional input. I am familiar with the other cases on here, as I will read anything I can get my hands on to learn more about the disease and how other cats and their owners handle it. It's comforting to have professional advice plus the stories on here from all of us who are currently dealing with or have experienced it in our kitties. I sent Peek-a-Boo's CD of his head images to Dr. Lunn. I'm interested in hearing what she has to say about the tumor and his hydro. Her email response seemed like she genuinely wanted to help and would include the opinions of other experts there at NCSU as well.

@Grayson & Lu What a wonderful story about the care and compassion you and Grayson had from his medical team...very touching.

@julie & punkin (ga) Posting Punkin's journey with SRT and all the articles on acromegaly have really been helpful, Julie. Thank you so very much for doing that for us!

Scritches for Neko and hugs for you Wendy ! :bighug:

@Dawn and Peek-a-Boo

You were reading her well. She has been so kind and compassionate. She's consulted with a number of our other acro cat owners as well, and is always willing to help. At some times, when she's teaching or in the clinics, it may take a couple days, but other times she's right on top with her responses. Here's a picture of her with Grayson - I felt like she adored him. I credit her (and FDMB and FB Acro groups) with the fact that he lived as long as he did.

Thank you for sharing this pic...what a treasured memento to have of your sweet boy. I'm so sorry he is no longer here. What a wonderful way to honor him by having his own paver at the school...love that. It's incredible to read how many obstacles Grayson had to face...I'm not surprised that Dr. Lunn cared for him so. :bighug:
