? Diabetic Neuropathy/Arthritis

we've just been hanging in there, taking zobaline and dasuquin, and seeing some better BG #'s lately, but just tonight mr b's hind legs are more stiff than ususal. I am not even sure if this is the arthritis or the neuropathy that is causing him this trouble. I'm going to call vet first thing in morning.

We had tried adequan in the past but i am really not sure if it worked, or maybe we didnt stick with it long enough. We had tried gabapentin but that didnt seem to do anything.

I dont know what to do. I'm not sure what i'm asking here.

with adequan the dosing is key--a shot every 4 days for 8 shots and then we do a shot a week --you can go as long as a shot every 4 weeks AFTER loading dose--I do sub Q-
If already having issues I personally would do every week--both my boys get it weekly and it really helps-
I also use some homeopathics--arnica works well for pain and there are others for arthritis--HEEL makes traumeel and zeel and used together they work very well-they work well by themselves but together much better.

I got curious so i looked up my records. The vet had us do subQ twice a week for four weeks, then there was no followup on their part during any of the many visits following, and i didnt know they had to be kept up, PLUS, it appears the dosage needs to be higher for subQ vs IM because subQ is less effective. So perhaps it didnt appear to work because the dose wasnt high enough and was not continued after initial run.

It looks like heel isnt available anymore, at least in the states.

the way to truly test for arthritis is by xray.....

my vet tried pushing on shoulders and hips and didn't get a reaction but when we got xrays....
you could see all the problem areas....

adequan does take a while to kick in....

as i recall...
it was a shot every week for a month and then one every two weeks..... and then we got to every three weeks....
but it all depends on how bad the arthritis is.....

if that doesn't do it....
they can add a small dose of bupenorphine to take the edge off.....

arthritis can raise bg....

Is it definitely 'stiffness' and not 'weakness'? And if it could be the latter has Mr B has his potassium level checked recently? Potassium deficiency can cause leg weakness.

Another thought....could the apparent stiffness you're seeing in his back legs actually be caused by discomfort in his abdomen...? Kitties with constipation, for example, can sometimes walk uncomfortably and with an altered gait...

The above are 'long shots', I know, but I just thought I'd throw the ideas out there...
