Yesterday I noticed I am now a "Well known member". That reminded me of things that can be more a curse than a blessing, like being "Good with animals". I actually have climbed a ladder to get a cat out of a tree. The woman with the ladder was in her 80's, what else could I do? I've been mauled by a suspected rabid cat (the vet misplaced the body), attacked by a squirrel that had been run over, saved a fox that was waiting for the SWAT team (typical in Toronto) and now we have two cats that we were going to foster for a week. That was three years ago. "Hey, this guy is a well known member, I'll ask him". No no! Please don't, I have no idea.
What to be thankful for? The commercials for Wix and GoDaddy make it look so easy. But that's for sites with a few pages. I'm certain sites like this cost a lot more to operate, the greater the number of pages the more you pay and we're talking Terabytes. I also know this site runs on some kind of software I've never heard of and it's not Windows 95. If you dig back in Grief Support the last entry was December 31, 2009. Would it save the board money to just hose out some of these pages? Of course it would but they're just as sentimental as the rest of us.
How big is this site? Twelve new members have joined since yesterday morning! So I'm a big-shot because I have over 700 likes. Hah! Do this; click on any member and then "member's profile". Near the top left is a tab for Members, click on that. Most messages is 41,734. Most likes is 13,567. Some of these people have been here since before my house was built.
The Board I know of Janet and Binky and Jill and Alex. They joined December 2009. Are they millionaire's who do this just for fun? Think of the posts they have to scan for foul language (oops, I tried this in Swedish last week), the interventions they make when someone is giving bad advice. They're no just leaning back in a chair.
Okay, enough preaching. But.... I highly encourage people to visit the main page and read Austin's story.
http://www.felinediabetes.com/austin.htm It is really sad and now you'll know why this place exists. If it disappeared tomorrow how many of us would be completely lost? Even though we're already running a charity at home I finally coughed up a few bucks for a donation a few months ago. What took so long? I just took this place completely for granted. What a schmuck eh? That was a long post, thank you for reading it.
