When starting a new vial do I need to decrease the dose the first few days? From what I've read of vetsulin is says it's good for 42 days. We are on day 44 and I want to continue using it until it's gone if possible. I don't think there's anything wrong with potency since Angels numbers seem pretty much the same if not better. But will a new vial be stronger than what I'm currently using?

I did a reduced dose on first shot of new vial because I kept reading to do a reduced dose on new vials. However, I do use a suspension insulin. Might not apply to Vetsulin. :) Just adding another voice here :p

Little excitement from Ms. Angel last night, luckily you're a pro now ;).
Little bit! She never shows any signs of hypo. Zero. Which kinda makes it scarier. For some crazy reason I always sense she may get low so i check more often. Last night when she dropped so much at +2 I knew shed get low so I was ready for it. Tried to steer with extra food early on but didn't work well enough.

Hey Cherish! How are you and Ms. Angel? :cat: Are you planning to get a curve, even mini curve done, on your next day off? Curious if her nadir has moved ;)

What makes you think that? We are good. Will be working next 5 days in a row but I'll have bf get a few through the day besides just the +6. :)

Well, Angel what an interesting way to start off the morning . This is the second time she's had a low PS, by chance did you try stalling this morning, Cherish? Waiting 20 minutes without feeding and re-test? First time on 28 April, you skipped shot, perfectly fine since it was the first time but she did rise. Looks like she went up again at +3.

Feel free to ignore what I'm going to say, I can be a little aggressive because I hate seeing that bounce . If you or bf would be around to monitor, next time she gives you the 100-120 PS range, maybe try stalling first and if she stays around that range try giving 0.25U. Let me know what you think ;). Maybe someone else will chime in and tell you to ignore this crazy person (me:smuggrin:) lol

Part of me wanted to give her .25u but other part of me got super anxious so I decided not to. It's really hard to stall on work mornings. I wake up at 5am and need to be to work by 6am most days. So I have an hour to deal with kitty and then get myself ready. I don't want to give her the shot any sooner than 5 because I want to be able to give her the 5pm shot and sometimes I barely make it home. But always do! So it's tough. Also don't wanna wake any earlier than 5 on days off. ;) lol

I know she will be high tonight but it's ok. I think she's doing pretty well overall :)

Ps. Thx for noticing. I was going to post tonight actually. I thought she was doing well but has been getting kinda low so I've been nervous.

Looks like she's clearing bounces faster too :). I don't think you'll need to give 3.0U very much right now . I'm no dosing expert but I'd be curious to try this:

80 - 100: 0.25U (Given she's needed a little more at these numbers it's usually because the previous dose was too high and caused a bounce, so if we settle it to not be a bounce number, she may react differently and not go back up)
100 - 150: 1.0U
150 - 200: 1.5U
200+: 2.0U

@JanetNJ What do you think about trying this for a few days? With Cherish and Bf's usual monitoring :cat:

Thanks for your input! @JanetNJ what do you think ? I think yongs scale might be slightly low but I'm no expert either!

Yes... I can look at it closer later.... I'm at work right now

Also to add, I know I should be more cautious but I worry about dropping the doses too much and having her get back up into the 400's and then have it take several weeks to get her regulated again. :(

If you look at the last 10 days... her morning doses that I've given her seem to be just enough. She never got below 55 or above 200.

And even her nignt time doses the last 10 days she has only gotten below 50 once. Other than that I think her nadir numbers have been great. I guess I need someone to explain to me why I need to drop the doses down so much. :)

The problem is he's going low in the evening which is causing a bounce in the morning.

Right, when the dose is too much in her AM cycle, it makes her have a low PMPS and then she bounce a little by next AMPS. The suggested reductions are aimed to keep her in good numbers for a cycle but give you two closer PS numbers :).

You're not doing anything wrong :bighug:. We're just trying to fine tune it now ;)

No no no I understand! Was not trying to be defensive so sorry if it came across that way! I welcome all and any help. I've been doing my best and am still learning. But what you said makes perfect sense. Going to see what Janet says about the sliding scale and then I'm going to put yours and hers together and hopefully see an improvement :) thanks so much!

Ok had a chance to look at the ss a little more.

I agree with yong's scale but would add another level at the top.

100-150 1
150-200 1.5
200-250 2
250-300 2.25
300+ 2.5
Thanks so much Janet & Yong. Officially switching to this scale right now. She was 307 PMPS. bounceeeeee

Should I try the scale from last night for awhile or just switch to this one? Already gave her dose this morning. AMPS wasn't terrible.
Oh nice preshot! Ok great! This will give us valuable information today to see if the 2.25 is good at that level or if 2 would be better. I'm glad you had a mid range number to find out!
