Firstly: !!!!

So Lou is technically at Day 15 without insulin, but as you can see from his spreadsheet, his BG jumped to 120 yesterday (on a human meter) and stayed there. He had been staying ridiculously steady throughout his trial, and it is rather devastating to see him so high literally on the last day of it. I obviously can't celebrate and say he's in remission with these numbers, so I need another opinion.... While I know technically 120 is within normal range, he's literally right at the end of normal. Since Lou's BGs generally stay pretty steady, I'm worried he won't go back down within normal range without insulin. At what number(s) should I call his OTJ trial a fail and give him some insulin assistance??

Aww come on Lou! lol. Technically the 120 could be a 96 with meter variation . I don't know any official number but my thoughts would be if he starts hanging over 150's you could try a 0.25U dose. Hopefully Janet and Linda will chime in.

*side joke* You can try threatening him that insulin will start again if he doesn't calm down

Ha! Thanks Yong, I definitely needed that. I was giving him a mini stink eye yesterday, willing his PMPS to be lower, but he would just look back at me with his normal sweet face (so not helpful ). If only threats would work, because he has been absolutely LOVING the lack of shots that he's been coming to me willingly for his BG checks. Now if only his pancreas would get on board (or stay on board) with everyone else, haha!

I know you feel disappointed that the numbers jumped, but they are still within normal range.
....Having said that, the numbers have trended upwards so, if that remains the case, you may - if you feel comfortable doing so - want to consider a teensy weensy dose so long as you can monitor, etc, etc...... If that has to be done, don't worry. It happens sometimes, honey.

OH MAN! What are you doing Loudogg?

If you were using U40 syringes, it may be time to grab a box of U100 syringes (you'll need this CONVERSION CHART) so you can pare down the dose to less than 0.5u if need be and provide a bit more support to get Lou over that last hump. This may be a temporary bump but you don't want him getting too well acquainted with those higher numbers again. My heart goes out to you....so disappointing but as Eliz says, it unfortunately happens. Amanda.
