We are on our way to pick Gizmo up. He did eat last night and again this morning. His T4 was still 5 something. So we need to continue the 2.5mg twice a day. Sugar was normal this morning (not sure what there definition of normal is, but good news!). Not his normal vet, but she doesn’t want him on the A/D for long because of the fat content. Said it isn’t good for pancreatitis or IBD. This is the first I’ve heard anything about them suspecting he has it. Maybe she was just saying not good for either case. Not sure. Sending us home with some but wants him switch as soon as possible.

So happy that Gizmo is coming home cat being pet.gif

Welcome home Gizmo.:bighug:

Low fat diets for pancreatitis are a dog thing, not a cat thing. What's most important is that Gizmo eat for you.

Gizmo is home and doing so much better. He is alert and moving around the house (although still sleeping often - but I’m sure he is exhausted, I know I am).

They said he ate a spoonful of food last night and half a can this morning. :) He has eaten a little more than 1/8 of a can since coming home. I am going to offer a little more shortly. He is back eating his normal food, but I do have 3 cans of the A/D food if needed.

He did not receive his cabergoline last night. So that makes 2 nights without it. :( Hopefully, he will be alright acro wise. His AMBG this morning was 173 at 8am. Not bad at all considering he was hospitalized and who knows when he ate the half can of food. Plus the pancreatitis and other suspected infections. I am hopeful that we can continue the OTJ trial.

He came home on several meds. Orbax 22.7mg (once daily - 14 days) and amoxicillin 75mg (twice daily - 14 days) - both AB I believe. Cerenia 16mg (once daily - 4 days). Famotidine 2.5mg (twice daily - 4 days). Then we are to also continue the methimadozole and cabergoline of course. He was due for all his meds when we arrived home. Poor kitty ... I had 6 different pills to give him at one time. He is such a good boy - didn’t give me any problems!

We have another appt to recheck all of his blood work in 3 weeks. My husband told me his kidney values were normal, but for some reason they didn’t print that blood work paper so we didn’t know the numbers until today. Well, both his Creatinine and bun have decreased! I couldn’t be happier! Creatinine is down to 1.3 from 1.8 the last 2 times it was check. And the bun is down to 21 from 45 (slightly different ranges though - but within normal range now from high before). Phosphorus is way down also to 4.8. :):):) I will update the lab section of his spreadsheet as soon as I have a chance. But right now ... I am so relieved and feel that he is doing great.

ETA - T4 was 5.0

Thanks everyone for the vines, thoughts, and well wishes! :bighug:

Cerenia 16mg (once daily - 4 days)
Seems a bit high. I've seen 1 mg/lb of cat. With the ABs, you might also want to add a probiotic if not on one already.

Have you considered using gel caps for all those meds? I used to cram 3 meds into a size 4 gel cap. That reduced the number of pilling sessions. Too bad the vet's office didn't do the pilling before he left the clinic.

He honestly doesn’t mind it. So I’ll probably just stick with what we are doing, for now anyways.
He isn’t on a probiotic. Any that you would recommend?

It the first time in a long time that I have checked in, and was amazed at Gizmos numbers.... first I hope he continues to feel better today, second what the .... happen with his BG numbers, did you change cabergoline dosage, or something, wow it all of sudden worked.... and CONGRATS on OTJ Trial.... I am so happy for you, my eyes teared up when I saw OTJ ....

As for missing 2 days of cabergoline, it happend to me also when Marvin when I had some problem with the pharmacy, and he missed I think 3 days. It has happen another time also, ealier this year. Thankfully it did not affect his BG. I have a feeling it is because they have been on it for a while, and also I was less concerned when I found out the Argentina study, was only giving it every other day... so I don't think you should worry.

Great job, hugs all around. I will have to go back and read all your older posts when his number started really going down fast, to see how you all reacted, and when you decided to start trial... that was such a relief when I started the trial, I think I finally breathed for the first time since he had gotten Dx.... Marvin says welcome Gizmo to the club..... :)

PMBG = 113

I was so happy that I forgot to give his cabergoline and hyperT meds. I just fed the hungry kitty! :banghead: He willingly took the hyperT pill after finishing and I’ll have to give him the cabergoline at the next feeding. I’m feeding little meals often right now, so it will only be a few hours off.

Off to send pics for his OTJ party! :D

Thank you. We didn’t change anything. The cabergoline just started working. It seemed like it was going to start working at the beginning of December and then things went the wrong way. I read somewhere that flame retardant on furniture was a possible cause of the increase in acro. We suspect flame retardant on our artificial Christmas tree (Gizmo loved to eat the pine needles). And the timing adds up as well with him starting to respond and then not responding only to respond again once the tree was down. This is of course just my theory, but I’m not willing to set up the artificial tree again. Not worth the chance (and I really hate stink bugs - the main reason we got an artificial tree). I feel that the chemicals on the tree have something to do with all of this.

Thank you for reminding me about the pharmacy issue with Marvin’s cabergoline. I remember being so nervous for you and Marvin when that happened. Remembering that helps to ease my mind and to believe Gizmo will be alright. I also kept thinking about the South America trial and dosing every other day. He has missed a day once before due to it not arriving soon enough.

Gizmo said to tell Marvin thank you and that he is honored to be part of the club!

and I really hate stink bugs
O.M.G. they are creatures of my nightmares. Seriously. I freak out over them. Full fledged panic attack.

Snakes don't bother me, spiders - meh, but stink bug, oh h3!! NO! Lol.

Nice PMBG! Glad he is back to normal numbers and glad he is home.

I am still catching up on all your posts, going backwards of course, glad @Wendy&Neko has been there to assist you. I also remember Marvin not eating well during this time, in many ways he was doing a bit better and but food was not one of them, until he was OTJ. He really seemed to improve then. My thought was basically because of the drastic change in need for insulin and better numbers confused his system I guess into some sort of shock. Like Marvin, Gizmo's numbers have gone down fast in the last 5 weeks, and Gizmo was getting high dose of insulin alot longer than Marvin. I would say that you will see his appy get alot better in the next few weeks.
His weight will stabilize. Marvin even gained almost a pound in the last 6 months or so. He is still improving, his personality the last month is back to how he was a few years ago (I just realized, that if had changed before he got dx with Diabetes). He has been back to his hungry self since late last year, not the crazy hungry all the time acro hunger, just it's that time mom, feed me NOW.... and he is happy till his about an hour before his next feeding time..... So even after over 9 months him being OTJ. He is still improving....

It looks like Gizmo is following similar patterns that Marvin did, I imagine you have been very exhausted with constant monitoring, testing, and just not being sure of anything, and of course getting even more addicted to the support here. Saved me from myself many times.... So happy for you all.... back to reading your older posts....

So happy to hear that Marvin is continuing to do well. :)

I think a number of people here use the Renew Ultimate probiotics. Selection is slightly different in Canada. I used one made in BC.

Eating well ... yep he sure is. He is even asking for food again. It’s amazing. He ate 1/2 can this morning before we picked him up. Then since coming home around noon, he has eaten almost an entire can (1/8 short), but the night isn’t over yet. :p He needs to gain several pounds back, so I’m just giving him as much food as he wants at this point. I’m planing on trying to get another 1/8 of a can in him with his nightly meds in about an hour. Then I will leave food in his feeder for overnight as well.
