CC’s numbers recently are just crazy high. This morning she hit a high of 483! Nuts. She is eating fine (appetite is increased not surprisingly) bathroom habits normal. She seems more agitated with the tail wagging so I think she’s feeling crumby. Her ears feel kind of warm. I can’t take her to the vet today as it’s my son’s birthday, but I am going to try to get her in tomorrow. Maybe her teeth are acting up... maybe a different insulin is needed. What we are doing now is not working. :( I hope she’s ok. @Kris & Teasel

Being agitated about dental makes sense, I've never made the connection between dental and high numbers though.
The rest of my thoughts are the obvious stuff; got into some food? a bad strip? new battery in the meter? Noah is still unregulated and on a bad day the meter goes off the scale, part of the reason you don't see his spreadsheet.

So stressful! :bighug: I'd get her in for a checkup tomorrow if you can. It could well be dental issues. When was her last one? They can also be brewing a UTI without showing many symptoms. If you decide to try a different insulin, ProZinc would be very familiar to you in its action. The depot insulins are very good too, although very different to dose, etc. Lots of us to help you!

I am thinking of asking for ProZinc. We are almost due for a new vial anyway. She had a dental last July. Had a tooth pulled and one filled. She has resorbed several teeth as well. She's not acting like her teeth hurt but she was acting normal last year too. Got an appointment for 10:20 tomorrow.

And of course this morning we get a less horrible amps of 280, and my partner shot a partial fur shot. :/ lol I thought we may have a chance and a good run today. Ah well such is life. I was glad about the yellow preshot though esp since it was 45 min later than last night. We slept in a little (can you call sleeping to 5:40 on a Saturday sleeping in?) because we were out late at a Def Leppard concert last night. My son wanted to go for his sixth birthday. What a fun birthday present. :)

A six year old who wants to see Def Leppard?! :joyful:

Are you taking her to the vet today?

OK... update. Went to the vet... She has two bad teeth. one with a lesion on it, and one with a HUGE hole through it by the gums. Both will probably have to come out (definitely at least one), and the vet is pretty confident that that will solve the numbers problem. One not so small additional thing though, she seems to have developed a mid grade heart murmur. That makes the extraction more complicated in that she will need to have an echo cardiogram done as well prior to make sure she's healthy enough for the extraction. (sigh) she never had a murmur before, so this is a new development. So the plan is to put her on antibiotics for now, then on June 29th she will have the echo done.... I'm going away on vacation July 5-9 and she will be boarded there at the vet, so she is going to have the dental done on July 6th (provided the echo shows she's ok enough to do it) while she's there anyway. So good news bad news. at least we have a reason for the high numbers. She had blood and urine taken so I'll get the results of those most likely on Tuesday.

At least there is an identfiable issue with a solution. Almost every cat I've taken to the vet in pain was said to have a murmur. Sometimes they don't hear it again after the meds start working. I hope that's the case for CC.

Teasel’s non diabetic sister had an echo done prior to a dental because the vet thought there was a murmur. The echo results were normal. It was an expensive prep step but worth it. Almost every cat I’ve had has had a vet comment on a murmur that was sometimes there, sometimes not. It can be very hard to know for sure.

I’m glad you have a very likely cause for her high numbers. :) Not a fun thing but it’s something that can be addressed.

She's had two doses of the antibiotics and already looks happier. She had more energy this morning and was meowing at me.

How is CC doing, Janet?
Well... Ok. She had diarrhea the first two days on the antibiotics and it can back again today. She has four more doses so hopefully her belly will settle down once that's finished. The vet called and said the bodywork looked ok. Her heart murmer is a grade 3 which is concerning to me. Her numbers are still quite elevated. Here's a copy of her lab reports. I'll be so relieved when the dental is done. I wish we didn't have to wait so long. I feel like until we do her numbers are just going to stay in outer space.

@Kris & Teasel i can’t wait until this dental is done. She’s still purring but not playing much and her numbers are barely budging. She goes for the echocardiogram tomorrow, and if all goes well the dental on the 6th. What do you think I should do for a dose in the meantime? Somehow I find it easier to advise other people then myself right now. I am tempted to dose three times a day.

Maybe try what we often tell others to do: try 5.5 u for 3 cycles then increase to 5.75 u for 3 cycles, etc. until you see better numbers. I think TID dosing would be a big headache for you and only a short term thing. It's very likely that the dental issues are driving this.

Ty. I'll try that.

I think I have just been getting hung up on the amount. Until recently she never needed more than 3...... And these huge doses were.... Concerning me. I just have to remind myself that she needs what she needs.

Got a nice 120 tonight at almost +5 with the raise to 5.5
