    Hello,
Recently, Prestos BSLs have been staying at the 100s the past three days and so I haven't been giving insulin since then. I'm not sure what I should do. So far I've just been checking his BSLs AMPS and PMPS and feeding him wet food with 1 tablet of zobaline. Is Presto regulated? How often should I check his BSLs?

Those are nice blue numbers but he might still need a small dose. You haven't given anything less than 1.75 u so far. He might need something around 0.5 u to 1 u to get him into dark green numbers. That's your goal.

Oh i see, i think I might start giving him 0.5 u and see how it goes. Thanks

Prestos BSLs lowered to 87 and I stalled for 20-30 min and it was at 95. Is an insulin shot still necessary if it's under 100?

No insulin on that lovely green. Test again before evening shot time to see where he is. If he's as low, no insulin.

    Hello again,
Lately Prestos BSLs have been staying close to 100 and in the 90s. If Prestos BSLs are just right above 100, even with stalling, do I give any insulin? On Prestos ss, as you could see on 8/04/18, his amps were 103 but we didn’t give any insulin and his mid day tests lowered to 85, and then his PMPS was at 92. Today, this morning his AMPS was at 88 so we didn’t give insulin and his PMPS is at 100, then we stalled and it rose a little to 103.

He's doing so well! I suggest you just test today to monitor. Check somewhere around the middle of the cycle and again at what would be the PS time. I wouldn't give insulin if the numbers are greens. Keep on giving the Zobaline.

If Presto remains under 100 for the next few days, do I start the OTJ trial?

    Thank you!
For the next two mornings, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get Prestos AMPS checked because of my schedule as well as my family’s schedule who usually helps with checking Prestos BSLs

Do what you can the next two days. Maybe a PMPS and one evening test?

Hello again! It has been 14 full days of the OTJ trial and Prestos BSLs have been all under 120 the whole time. Is it finally safe to say he is officially OTJ and in remission? How do I go about checking his blood sugars after today?

Congratulations!! Different people have different opinions on how often to check BG. Maybe try once a day for a week or two then drop to once every couple of days for a week or two then once every week and then once every two weeks? He'll forever be a diabetic but he's now diet controlled. He'll need low carb (preferably wet) food always and you have to be vigilant for any signs of infection, etc. that could put his BG back up. Dental issues are notorious for this. Keep up the Zobaline.

We usually suggest fish no more than once or twice a week if you can find other flavours he'll accept. As for brushing his teeth, I don't know what the schedule should be. The fact you're doing it and he tolerates it is wonderful! Maybe daily if you can manage?

Oh okay I will look for other flavors, so far I’ve just been feeding him the salmon ones, and I think I can manage brushing his teeth everyday :)

Should I just feed Presto a different flavor of the canned food each day?

Not necessarily. Maybe find a couple of non fish versions he's OK with and save the salmon for a once a week treat for a day.

Just wondering, but is it bad to feed fish versions everyday? Is it only supposed to be eaten for treats?

I think it relates to the higher mercury content in fish. It might also relate to the higher phosphorus content (not good if kidneys are aging) but I'm not certain.

I’ve been giving mine fish ones too! I didn’t know that. They have chicken too. Luckily they eat anything lol. So glad to hear Presto is in remission, really hoping Truffles is following suit. 7 days for him so far!

I give Idjit raw gizzards to help clean his teeth. Hopefully it's helpful with the gnawing. He gets the chewy and the variety and doesn't leave a tiny bit of meat, so I guess he likes it. Another member told me that she gave her cat raw chicken wings, and the vet told her that the cat's teeth were in excellent shape.

How often are you able to give raw chicken? Can it be a part of one of their meals? And can I just rinse it and give it as is? Sorry, I ask a lot of questions lol
