kyas numbers in morning yesterday were over 250 So I gave 1 unit. Did fairly well yesterday morning. Evening number was still over 250 gave 1 unit. Why did it drop to 75 in the 4 hour mark? Same food amount from morning to evening. 1 1/4 cans fancy feast chicken also if I have human meter should I be straight reading the numbers as they are or since I compared with vets marchine and my meter was 30 points below theirs add 30 points to her numbers when I get them?

That's a sign that the 1 u dose is edging toward too much insulin. It's best to aim for a low number in the high 90s or low 100s with Novolin because this insulin acts strongly to drop BG quickly and low.

A human meter will read lower than a vet's meter or other pet meter. The difference is less at low BGs and more at high BGs. There's no conversion factor to translate one reading to the other. You can't just add 30 points either. Most of us here use human meters because the strips are cheaper. We all understand human meter ranges here on FDMB so we can give advice if you have human meter numbers to look at. You have to learn what too high, OK and too low are on your meter and go with that. The "take action" number on a human meter is 50. That doesn't mean hypo. It means that BG is getting low enough that you should intervene with a snack of slightly higher carb food to bring it up.

This guide to using Novolin is very good. Have you read it?

I have read it just still learning and confused on some stuff. I’m trying so hard to make this work. So even though numbers are above and the evening number was above 300 the same unit dropped it Lower? Does that mean I should back off and do .5 unit 2x a day? Just took BG at +4 and it’s at 87. Should I be concerned

That 87 is as low as you want to go with Novolin. If your syringes have half unit marks you can eyeball 0.75 u quite easily. We recommend dose changes of only 0.25 u at a time. Occasionally if the dose is larger, 0.5 u can be used. We would caution against whole unit changes.

It's easy to get fooled by pre shot numbers. They go high and you think a dose increase is in order. Actually it's the LOW numbers that are used to assess the dose. If they're too low, the dose is too high regardless of what the PS was. There's a rebound phenomenon we call "bouncing" that often happens if:
    • BG has dropped too low
    • Bg has dropped to lower than usual even if not too low
    • BG has dropped too fast.

I suggested 0.75 u on your other thread.

I need to know what .75 looks like on the syringes. I couldn’t figure it out last night so she got .5 u I have these syringes Relion 31 gauge 6mm (15/64”) length needle 3/10ml syringe says on syringes u-100

Do your syringes have half unit marks on them? If so, 0.75 u would be (visually) half way between the 0.5 u mark and the 1.0 u mark. There are no syringes made with quarter unit marks so you have to eyeball it. At Kya's low dose level 0.5 u dose increments are too large. Maybe you could practice drawing up an eyeballed 0.75 u with coloured water until you're more confident doing it. :)

Last night's numbers are very nice. I think 0.75 u might pull down the lows a little more and that's OK. She's responding well right now.

Thank you. I hope the vet understands why I’m not giving 2 units. She goes for recheck on wed

Show the vet those very low numbers on your spreadsheet. Let the vet know you're testing at home because you need to feel that Kya is being kept safe.

The 113 is close to ideal. My feeling is that 0.75 u will nudge her BG down to the ideal 90 - 110 range. If it does you’d hold that dose for several cycles to see if she settles well on it.
