Hi everyone. I just like to make sure before I place another order for the BD 0.3ml syringe 8mm.

I used it for lantus but now we are moving to levemir. Is it the same type of syringe we should use?

Thank you very much.

Sorry, I can't answer about your syringe question, as I'm pretty new at this, but I tend to look at a lot of kitties spreadsheets and then ask questions - still learning lots about FD! lol I noticed on your SS that you went from 5.75 u on 11/27 all the way down to 4.5 u on 12/15. I'm just wondering why you decreased when Fa's numbers were still pretty high?

When you move to Levemir, we reduce the dose to 70% of what you were dosing the s is for safety, some cats have a strong reaction to the switch. But given you have already taken an unearned drop in dose. You could probably go to 70% of the 5.75, which would be 4 units.

It’s a bit complicated. I was talking to the vet about changing to levemir. Our vet wanted us to try a lower dose to see if we used too much insulin. At the time of 5.75u, the BG before shot was really high. Our vet wanted to try and see , and if it did not help, we would then move to levemir. We knew that when BG dropped too much, it’s possible to bounce but it keeps bouncing after 6 cycles.

Thank you for the info. Our vet wants us to try from 2u. We know most probably it’s not enough and will be increasing soon most probably. Do you think we can do 2u to start?

When I switched to Lev from Lantus I made the mistake of following vet advice and backing up too far. Lost a lot of time. I'd suggest taking Wendy's advice and starting at 4u.

Linda is right, starting lower is a waste of time. Many kitties end up at similar Lev doses as they did Lantus. We just start lower because some have a strong initial reaction. If you had to go back to 5.75 units from 2 units, that would take you 15 weeks if following SLGS. That’s way too long under renal threshold. Going to 4 saves you 8 weeks of that time.
