Jaspers numbers are always up in the morning, but this is the first I got HI, elevated. He ate a little food, then went to his water. Holding off the insulin until he eats some more. What should I do?
My Ducote was on Vetsulin (switched to Prozinc two days ago) so I don't have any experience with Novolin but I have plenty of experience with the dreaded "HI" For about a month it seemed that my kitty lived in the HI's and I could just scream every time my meter showed that result and when I had to type that into my spreadsheet. My kitty always spent lots more time at his water when he came out HI because it causes extreme thirst. Did Jasper ever go back to his food? Ducote always had a good appetite, especially on HI days. With Jasper being in the high range it is important that he gets his insulin so if he did not go back to his food yet I would look for something to entice his appetite (but staying within healthy options). Do you have a chicken breast you can bake and sprinkle a few shreds on top? Do you have a different flavor of food just in case maybe he is just not in to the current flavor this morning? Can you put a few pieces of cheese on top of his food?
The FF is new to him. I may have given him a flavor he didn't care for. I added some of the 9 lives to it and he ate most of it. I gave him insulin. I retested and he had dropped to 147. I'm gonna recheck within an hour.
That was 15 min. post insulin. Maybe I did something wrong. I retested at +1 and got 369. More realistic.
