She knows how to everything that I do for Panzer if I ever need her to, she doesn't want to but she will if something was to happen & I couldn't take care of him for some reason.Is Laura your sister? I can't remember if you mentioned her before?
He's not picky at all he would be a human garbage disposal if I didn't do what I call Panzer proofingZiti! That cat is incorrigible.
I'm so sorry to hear about Panzer. Yes, you can give a probiotic, but give it a few hours after the antibiotic; if not, the antibiotic will cancel the effects of the probiotic if that makes sense.I gave him D-Mannose with his insulin feed, he's supposed to have his MiraLax the next feed then his antibiotic the one after that. Do you think it's okay to give him the probiotic with his antibiotic same time?
Makes sense he will have his 2nd dose of Boulardi probiotic with his AMPS feeding, he just had his antibiotic @+8 PMPS feeding. Thank youI'm so sorry to hear about Panzer. Thank you I hope so too, he did get into baked ziti & bread & butter earlier so he's not feeling too badOh my goodness. Poor baby. Hope you can get some answers/him feeling better soon
We'll, Suzanne had that handled!
@Suzanne & Darcy is there another antibiotic for UTI? I just got off the phone with a vet tech, she's going to talk to him about the buprenorphine & a possible urine culture & different antibiotic. I got some urine @AMPS it was negative for ketones.Do you think you will be able to even give him the Bupe? I don't know how hard he is to handle. Buprenorphine needs to be kind of squirted (I say squirted but it is a TINY TINY amount) onto the gums to be effective. It is absorbed through the mucus membranes of the mouth (the gums) so it's best to try to shoot the oral syringe with the tiny amount of Bupe into the corner of their mouth where their cheek is (kind of in the corner of the jaw, if you can just slip it in there) and squirt. In some cats, it's almost impossible to get it into what they call the buccal pocket (inside cheek). Now, having said that... I have had some of these impossible cats and I managed to squirt it into their mouth and not so perfectly inside the cheek onto the gums... it still had some effect, so it must have absorbed in there somewhere! It is not absorbed through the GI tract like most meds.
There are many different antibiotics that are prescribed for urinary tract infections. If the vets had done a urine culture (which honestly does not always yield a result) they would have known what to prescribe. I don’t know if doing a culture now would yield much since he has already been on antibiotics for a while. But, I suppose that, if the Zeniquin is not killing the bacteria it might show that? It is hard to know what to do at this point, but if he doesn’t improve soon I would take him back to the vet. I am glad that you were able to speak with a tech who will convey what is going on to the vet.@Suzanne & Darcy is there another antibiotic for UTI? I’ve found D Mannose to be helpful even when there is no bacteria present, when it’s just plain old cystitis. Somehow the D Mannose removes irritants from the bladder that can cause painful peeing or even blood even when there is no bacteria present. Wishing you the
Okay we are about to go to a new vet, he has to be there in an hour. What should be done? I made a new post but figured since your on I would ask you on here.There are many different antibiotics that are prescribed for urinary tract infections. Hopefully the D-Mannose will be soothing to his bladder and (while it doesn’t kill bacteria) will still be able to provide some relief of symptoms.
I can get on here once I'm there. If it is drop off they didn't say anything, we won't be going if it is.Go all the way back to the 15 tooth extractions at least! Do you have time to write anything down for them? Will you be able to go inside with him? Or is it the dreaded drop off?
We are here waiting in the parking lot for an open room. It's super icey here so they are going to help me get him in the building so I don't fall down with him.I wonder if they will want to do a pancreatitis test
Should I have them?I wonder if they will want to do a pancreatitis test
@Suzanne & Darcy see #70Should I have them?
He has had pancreatitis before you said. Don’t know if you want to go that route today? More money involved. I would not if he has a good appetite and isn’t showing signs of pancreatitis.Should I have them?
Definitely still has a UTIGood. Let us know what they find.
@Suzanne & DarcyOk they want to switch his antibiotics?
@Suzanne & DarcyDefinitely still has a UTI
Clavamox is good. May cause diarrhea and vomiting but you don’t know if it will in Panzer unless you try itClavimox?
I don't think they are going to send it off but they checked it right there in the office & it took awhile to get the results. He did a full exam & said he has no pain in his abdomen & that not to worry about the pancreatitis, he doesn't believe he has it by the exam & there waiting for the other vet to send his records & bloodwork. I haven't even gotten the email for bloodwork yet. I showed him Panzer's spreadsheet & the labs that I had on there & talked about the FDMB. He likes his BG #s & wants him to stay on the fancy feast for now. He also said something about if his #s stay as good as they are now then we would talk about remission but wants to leave things as is for now. I won't be taking him off insulin without the FDMB guidance, but I had to let him think he knows what he's doing Lol. I really liked him & I think they are going to work out. He goes back on March 11th & he wants me to bring a clean catch of urine & we will go from there. He named the type of bacteria but I can't for the life of me remember what he said.Do they have any suggestions on how to minimize GI upset?
That was the name he said cocci yes that is what he saw. He died want to do the buprenorphine because it's an injectable & he doesn't think a pharmacy would give it for a cat. He doesn't think he is any pain. Panzer hissed & growled at him & even tried to reach out & claw him but that's how he acts at the vet whether hes sick or not. Thank you I will do anything I possibly can to help my baby, hopefully the clavamox will work for him!I don’t see how the guy can know what the bacteria is without growing a culture. Unless he just said he has a lot of cocci in his urine(which means they can see that it is bacteria and what shape it is so they can guess.). They can guess from looking under tje microscope by shape of the organism. Cultures are where you send off the uri e and they grow it in a laboratory - think petri dish - to see what grows and then they do testing of it to see which antibiotics kill it the best (that’s the susceptibility/sensitivity part of the C&S test.). Anyway, I think Clavamox is a good choice as long as it doesn’t make Panzer sick to his stomach. We will hope for the best. Good job on paying attention to his continuing symptoms and getting him back to the vet.
