Panzer has been a struggle to get to eat he hasn't puked at all today & he's eaten off & on but the last feeding was a struggle. I skipped his AM dose of insulin due to poor eating & he was @232 @+8. I really need to give him his does coming up, but what if I can't get him to eat? What do I do? He's been drinking quite a bit of water today but that's probably because he's not used to that high of a number. He had famotidine once today but isn't due for the Cerenia until 8pm a little over 6 & 1/2hrs from now.https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...3-4-puking-vet-visit-tomorrow-109-7-5.260495/

Is he eating yet, your dose time is coming up isn't it? Have you considered syringe feeding? You probably don't want to miss another shot especially if he is not eating because that becomes a risk for ketones. But you don't want to shoot if he isn't getting food either in case he drops too low. Hopefully someone with more experience will be by with advice.

He's eating a little but not much. His dose is 0.5units. I'm going to be right here with him. I've never syringe fed. I hope doesn't come to that. I don't know what to do...I'm balling my eyes out!

I have syringe feed Checkers when he has pancreatitis, it is awful but he doesn't hate me after and it is one way to get food in him. Is he eating any of the Dr.eisleys or baby food? How high is is BG if it isn't too high maybe you can skip or give a token dose. I am not too familiar with prozinc, but I know Lantus doesn't kick in for about 2 hours so there js time to get more food into him, but that is Lantus.

Unless his BG drops I would give him insulin and syringe feed if necessary. What do you have for nausea from pancreatitis? I would give cerenia or ondansetron now.

I am not allowed to give dosing advice but I can say that when Jade isn’t eating, I won’t give her insulin. I have been told that she doesn’t need to eat a full meal for a shot. Maybe a .25 dose if he hasn’t eaten much but is eating a little at a time?

I gave him .25 he had cerenia an hour & 1/2 ago. He ate some boiled chicken. I offered him Fancy feast tiki cat baby food & dr elseys. He licked the spoon a little of baby food refused both pates & the dr elseys, which I still have down but he just walks past it.

I’m sorry you’re having a bad day. I’m sorry he’s having one as well. The anxiety is awful. Sending good vibes, for what it’s worth.

Yes that's what I did.25 & he ate about 10 pieces of boiled chicken that I give him as a treat for testing. He just got a drink of water to.

Thank you. It's hard not seeing him do normal every day things. Like meeting me at the door or trying to scratch me or bite me when I test. He is still getting in the test box on his own so that's good. I just want him to feel better.

I 100% know how you feel. It’s heartbreaking and exhausting.

Good you gave him some insulin. The pant will raise his BG. Baby food you was my go to and it’s easy to hand or syringe feed if needed. I didn’t have any dry here once Max became diabetic but he would also eat freeze dried when he was not feeling well. Offer a little food hourly.

Ive had the dry food hidden for quite some time, didn't want to go there. I also have some WD dialectic dry food but that will just raise his BG & I don't want that. Ok thank you. I've never syringe fed but I will if it comes to that. I just bought about 10 jars of baby food yesterday.

That won’t help with nausea from pancreatitis so continue with cerenia. Did he say why? There is so much literature from respected veterinarians on its use.
He doesn't have pancreatitis the vet does not think so anyway. I should have the results of his bloodwork & urinalysis on Monday.

I might suggest that when you ask for dosing help, look for people who have experience with the insulin you are using. A number of the people you tagged have not used Prozinc, and like me, might not be comfortable giving dosing suggestions. However, many of us have unfortunately had to deal with a inappetant kitty.

I asked for the cerenia because he started vomiting & refusing to eat Thursday night but then ate tiki cat twice before our vet appointment on Friday.

What does your vet think the reason for the inappetence? Chronic pancreatitis comes and goes. If something else is causing it I would investigate.

I'm not sure why he didn't say why, but Panzer started eating again 2xs before we went to the vet & he ate once after the vet appointment & it has been a struggle ever since.

Thank you. I'm scared to leave him alone to go to the store but maybe I can get my daughter to come sit with him for a few. I had a kitty that passed away in 2007 from cancer. Several years before that he had hepatic lipidosis & I had to tube feed him for about 3mons. Everyone said he wouldn't make it but he did with my dedication to him. He had hepatic lipidosis when diagnosed with cancer & I tube fed him up until he pulled it out twice. They wouldn't replace it a third time. He passed away 2 & 1/2 months after he was diagnosed. Lymphoma cancer it went to his brain :(

AMPS shortly after he ate boiled chicken & about 10 pieces of Dr elsey's clean protein chicken/+4 PMPS Panzer ate about half of his fancy feast beef pate with parmesan cheese sprinkled on it & a 2.5oz jar of beechnut turkey +turkey broth baby food & drank some water.

I'm glad to hear Panzer ate some :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Yes hopefully he keeps on eating. My daughter came over & sat with him so I could go to the store & buy some stuff for him. I tried to find the stuff to make him a liver shake but they only had one ingredient, so I bought other stuff suggested above.. He layed on her coat right beside her the whole time I was gone. He's such a sweet boy. :bighug:

Try raising the food bowl 4-6 inches. The last thing a nauseous cat (or human, for that matter) wants to do is lower their head.

A couple of books you don't care about. A thick telephone directory. An upside down cookie tin (the bottom usually has a small rim that helps the bowl from sliding off.

Ah poor panzer!

At this point he just needs to eat, do NOT worry about carbs and BG. He likes.his contraband, so whatever he will eat. Remember inappetence is a factor in ketones/DKA, as is underlying infection/inflammation/stress. So he needs to eat, we will figure out the insulin part. For now do not change your dose because we don't know what's going on. In a way I am glad to see the BG up, like I said last night I found it odd it hadn't gone up.

Ok I will try that thank you.

My daughter stayed with him & I went & bought him some more baby food, deli turkey & chicken lunch meat parmesan cheese some oregano & eggs. He feels so bad that he didn't even care when I was eating. I had to force him to eat the pill pocket with Cerenia in it an hour before PMPS shot, then I put 2 empty pill pockets on the counter & he ate them willing. He ate a whole jar of baby food @+4 feeding & a little bit of fancy feast beef pate with parmesan cheese on it. I'm making him more boiled chicken right now. Do you think I should give him more famotidine? He hasn't had any since AMPS. @FrostD

I'm glad he's at least eating something.

Unfortunately I don't know about the famotidine, sorry :(

Thank you I wasn't able to get the stuff for the liver shake because of course Walmart was out of all but one ingredient. I did get deli turkey & chicken, unsalted chicken broth, reduced Sodium chicken broth, parmesan cheese & ground oregano they didn't have the other kind. I also got more baby food. He ate a little bit of fancy feast beef pate with parmesan cheese on it & a whole jar of turkey +turkey broth beechnut baby food. I'm making him some more boiled chicken now.
