I got a call from the vet today. I had to take Panzer back in because the urine they got from his bladder on Friday was not enough. He is eating now fancy feast pate's but 98% of the time he will only eat if it's got parmesan cheese or fortiflora on it. He did just eat with nothing on it, so that makes me happy. They have a script of mirtazapine that they had to make into a compound for him because it is something you put on there ears & Spook would ingest it because he will not leave Panzer alone after we test, he will try to bite & lick his ears until Panzer puts the smack down on him! I got some more Cerenia while we were there & he had a dose of famotidine @ AMPS & a 2nd dose @ PMPS, He had a dose of Cerenia @+4 AMPS & again @ +4 PMPS. My question is... Is mirtazapine safe to give him? @FrostD @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...rs-275-pmps-237-2-5-215-4-230-7-219-8.260580/

Sorry Christina I have never had to use it
Must have been a pain in the butt having to bring Panzer back in .
I'm glad he ate his food without you having to add anything on top of it.
He's getting spoiled wanting to have the cheese and the fortiflora on his food lol
I hope Melisa or Suzanne see the tag. I don't see why it wouldn't be safe, I see many members have used it either by putting it on the ear or in pill form
How much do you have to give

Well I just read on my 3 -11 post #37 about mirtazapine. I'm not getting it! Hopefully his blood work & urinalysis will be back tomorrow, so maybe I can figure out what is wrong with my baby.

I didn't get it, they sent me an email to order it from there online pharmacy. I went back & read a post on Panzer's 3-11 post & I'm going to pass on it. Yes he is very spoiled, hopefully it won't continue because it can't be good for him. My client that I cleaned for today said Panzer has me wrapped around his paw...:smuggrin::smuggrin: he's such a little brat!

Yes mirtazapine is safe to give him. I have a question though. Are these pills that they compounded into some sort of a treat or something? Because Mirataz is the transdermal form ofMirtazapine appetite stimulant that you rub on their ear. So you say you cannot use this on his ear because spooky would lick it off?

If you do decide to try Mirtazapine or Mirataz, just start with a tiny dose. I have used Mirtazapine quite a bit in my (ill) cats for appetite stimulation with good results as long as I use a small amount. I have also used cyproheptadine and it’s a tiny pill that Panzer could probably take in a pill pocket.

I'm looking at it on my email now & it is mirtazapine capsule? Yes Spook is very bad about licking & biting Panzers ears after testing because of the vaseline that I use to get the blood to bed up & I also put either coconut oil or neosporin on his ears after testing sometimes. So I'm thinking it would also interfere with me testing?

Ok like how small of a dose?If I asked for the cyproheptadine they would probably say no, like they have with the buprenorphine & the zofran. They seem hesitant to call in prescriptions & I think the reason why is they have there own online pharmacy/store.

And it’s just dreadful that he has to go back to the vet!
Actually this was the best vet visit hes had, he meowed twice on the way, fell asleep on the way back & his # didn't get to high either. I think it was because it was such a nice day out yesterday & he trys his best to get outside & I had the window open a little for him. When I'm going in & out he trys his best to get outside NOT Panzer :D

don't get the Neosporin. There is new information that one of the ingredients in it is not good for cats. Check out this post:
Warning about Neosporin

You don't want Spook licking it off Panzers ears either

Exactly, Diane. I was thinking that same thing about how I don't like the idea of Spooky licking Neosporin off of Panzer's ears! Thanks for the link. @Chrispooky12

Wow no more Neosporin for Panzer or Spook! Hopefully the coconut oil is still OK? It was recommended to me on her so I'm assuming it is. I rarely use it or the neosporin because I don't test Panzer as often as I used too, so his ears aren't really to sore anymore. I do you Vaseline to get the blood to Bead up. Panzer has his moment's when it's hard to get blood. So Spook is crazy over Vaseline :cat: if Panzer gets a chance he will scoop some Vaseline on his paw. I wonder what's so enticing about it o_O

@Suzanne & Darcy what do you think about the capsule mirtazapine? I don't know the dosage or anything yet. It's sitting in my email waiting for me to accept the order.

What, the Mirtazapine? Or the Cyproheptadine?
Mirtazapine, I Googled both & since he's eating with the help of fortiflora & parmesan cheese I'm not going to bother with getting it. It would take 2-3 days before I even got it. He did eat twice today with no extra topping, so he's slowly moving in the right direction.

Good deal! Eat Panzer! Who is older? Panzer or Spooky?

The vet called me while I was on my way to work this morning. The bloodwork came back close to the same #s as the bloodwork from a couple of weeks ago.He named everything off to me but it was alot to take in with him on speaker phone & using Google maps at the same time. He was still waiting on something & said he would call back if it came back before the end of the day. He was supposed to email me the bloodwork but nothing yet! Urinalysis came back clean no bacteria at all! He said no pancreatitis either & since he's not eating properly yet not to switch foods yet. He wants to do bloodwork again in 2-3 months. He's also very adamant that Panzer is heading for remission. I will make that decision with the help of all of you when the time comes. I want a strong remission for him if that's possible. His #s have been amazing today! PMPS was 94:bighug: As soon as I get the bloodwork I will figure out how to put it on his spreadsheet, so the real professionals can look it over:bighug:

Good to know his bloodwork hasn't changed much. I wonder what the panc test number was. Anyway, as my vet says, cats didn't read the manual on pancreatitis. A lot of vets actually don't put much stock in the test and will diagnose and treat based on symptoms only. I'm not saying Panzer has pancreatitis. It's looking like he doesn't. I wonder why he's being such a brat though? But his eating has picked up now, and that's all good. I think he's on the upswing now.

I hope so! I remember him saying the amalyse was 1900 & his bun & protein were a little high. Isn't 1900 kinda high? He was born a brat LOL he has been a handful since the day I brought him home as a kitten. I remember him knocking the measuring cup of the yuck dry food out of my hand & on to the floor so many times I couldn't even count. He would get in the cabinets, inside the refrigerator, down in the couch cushions. He was & still is something else
