I'm posting this on the main forum because this post isn't about Panzer.

This morning after feeding Panzer & Spook at shot time, Spook used the litter box & took off running as he always does. Sometimes it's because he has poop stuck on his butt & I have to get it off & clean him off.

I went into the cat room after he was done to see if I needed to clean anything up off the floor & on the floor right in front of the litter box was a normal consistency of poop with blood in it. I cleaned it up & finished getting ready for work, worrying & wondering what it could be?

I know he probably needs to go to the vet, I'm just not sure when I would be able to take him due to not having a whole lot of money. He does have pet insurance but I'm not sure what it actually covers. I believe it's emergency stuff only. I'm going to call them tomorrow & find out.

In the meantime what should I do? Should I try to get a sample of his poop & take it into the vet?

He is acting fine other than one day last week he refused his +7 AMPS lunch. He's been eating every meal since then. I have to move his bowl around the room with him (& say eat a little bit more) for some of his meals but that's nothing new.

Last year my cat was having poops with blood in it, and the vet wasn't worried because the blood was bright red and her behind wasn't bleeding otherwise. From what I understand, they're usually unconcerned about an odd incident like that here or there. But I know how scary it can look!

Was it red? Not black? Any mucus? Red blood and/or mucus in the stool occasionally isn’t a huge concern. This is an indication of irritation in the G I tract. Black blood in the stool can be from a GI bleed. Hopefully it was just red blood?

Yes it was red blood. Thank goodness. I was so worried, I will be stalking him when he goes to the litter box as well:) he is still getting slippery elm with bark every other day. Should I start giving him the probiotic again? Panzer gets it every other day, I'm just trying to cut back on costs for meds & how many meds they take daily. As of right now Spook gets Mirilax once a day & slippery elm every other day & that's it.

He keeps getting in the test box & I've tried testing him but we've gotten as far as Vaseline on the ear after warming his ear & then he's outta there:rolleyes: I don't think he's diabetic but it would be nice to see a number from him.

depends on the colour of the blood. generally speaking, bright red and fresh suggests the bowel movement caused a small tear in the anus. should be fine. black tarry stools suggests something mor internal and should be seen quickly.
Yes it was red thank goodness. Thank you for your reply, I feel much better now.

Yes very scary. Thank you for sharing about your kitty.

I understand about the cost cutting needs! I've been using a Probiotic called Advita that I bought from Chewy. It's in a little packet that gets mixed into food (like Forti-Flora except it has many more strains of probiotic). It's less expensive than Forti-Flora as well. But giving probiotics to two cats (Spook and Panzer) could get pricey. I also use the Proviable DC for my IBD kitty and it seems to help him a lot (as long as I give it every day :-( )

The Slippery Elm Bark should be soothing to his gut... so you should continue with that and hope it was just a one-time thing. How is Spook today? Let me know if you need any more of the SEB.

I will have to check the advita out & maybe try some of that for Spook.

I've used about half of the bag of SEB. I mix that with baby food & sometimes Spook isn't to sure about it but eventually he eats it. He is very picky about baby food, he will only eat the beechnut beef flavor, he hates the chicken & turkey. Panzer likes all of the flavors. My Walmart where I normally buy baby food after continued complaints about them putting spoiled baby food back on the shelf, I have been buying it at Kroger. Sometimes Kroger doesn't have the beef, so I get the chicken or turkey. The only way Spook will eat the chicken or turkey mixed with slippery elm is when I put fortiflora on it:rolleyes: Spook is doing good today. He's eating good & so far no more poop with blood. I have given Panzer a couple of fur shots :banghead: so his numbers are a little high for my liking but still staying in the blues & even going down into the greens. He had a couple of blue cycles but that's better than yellow. I would really be kicking myself if I see a yellow or worse. Of course the day that we rescheduled my grandson's birthday party due to there town getting hit by the tornado the previous weekend, Panzer was in the 50s I'm like dude why the 50s when momma has to leave you:)

I'm feeding 30mins early because my daughter's dog had a seizure, so I'm heading out there to see what we are going to do. Of course the vet is on lunch break right now!

So sorry about your daughter’s dog. I hope it’s something that can be treated with medication.
They said not to bring her in unless she has 2 more than it would be a pattern? She's 12yrs old & shes part chiwawa & part miniutarture pinchar & she's on 2 different heart pills. So far she hasn't had anymore seizures.

Sometimes I test Panzer @+3 Sometimes not until +4 PMPS every night. He was acting weird tested him @+4& he was at 56 tested again @+4.5 & he's at 58. I know those are perfectly safe numbers but he was acting strange. I didn't feed him because those are good numbers & he eats @+6. I feel like he may be getting a UTI :arghh:

Yes praying for sure, but he's definitely showing me signs. Can he have D Mannose more than once a day? I know the cosequin is only supposed to be once a day. Maybe I will start the provibial DC back up to everyday to. I really don't want to do another antibiotic.
