Senvelgo update

Hi all just thought I’d update you so we are on day 18 now and still zero ketones …I’ve been checking every day even though it says I don’t need to now but wanted to be sure … he’s doing well …eating well and seems more like his old self again… the medication to be honest he noticed me injecting him less but he tolerates it now and he gets a treat after so he’s soon associated it with that… even though it’s going ok I can’t relax yet I still feel he’s in danger and some days he has a very big appetite which I know can be a sign of it not in control yet but most of the time he is very stable… I’m feeding him twice a day with a small snack if he’s very hungry and he’s doing really well on that… he seems quite lively and has been playing with his brothers hasn’t done that in a while and his fur is losing that oily look so just keeping my fingers crossed… I’ll report back in the future how he’s getting on .:. Hope everyone is doing ok
 
That's a great update. Those signs you are noticing are all good ones.

How often was he fed before the diabetes? We tend to feed our diabetics here several small meals instead of just a couple times a day.

Bron and Sheba thank you ☺️ I have done yes and it is always around 4.2 mmol/L or lower I’ve been prick testing him because the Libre was just showing very low results all the time which was very different from when I tested his blood and I heard it’s not as accurate at lower levels so I took it off him… I will definitely keep you posted as to how he goes on I hope the information will help ☺️

Wendy&Neko thank you ☺️ he was fed like that before diabetes he tends to eat all his food in one sitting rather than being a grazer… but I have noticed he is hungry in between so smaller meals through the day would be a good thing to try… he’s also a bit of a greedy fast eater and can throw his food straight back up and then want to eat straight away again so again might help with that …I work from home so I’m always on hand for him …thanks for that information …I didn’t really get a lot of direct from the vet on food just what I found out on here and google and I have noticed a difference on the low carb high protein diet he looks way better
 
Victoria, one of my kitties is a very fast eater and used to eat then throw up. I bought a large plate for him and spread his food around the plate and it slowed him down and stopped the vomiting. I also bought one of those flat dish type things…can’t think of the name…where there are multiple tiny compartments for the food. That is successful but a fiddle to clean.
 
My non-diabetic Jackson used to eat a can of Fancy Feast in like 3.5 seconds.
I started giving him half of a can with filtered water and mixed it up and smushed it all around his bowl. When he was done with that I gave him the other half can again watered down and smushed up against the sides. It now takes him almost or more than 10 minutes to eat that can of Fancy Feast. He is forced to lick up the water on top and I feel he is much more satisfied when he is done.

Bron and Sheba thanks for that I’ll definitely try him with it he just threw up again this morning and ate straight after …he bolts his food down I got him a raised bowl to see if that would help with him being a Maine coon and quite big but didn’t try the plate idea I’ll definitely try that thank you ☺️

Dyana thank you that’s another great idea he does love more sauce watery food so I don’t think he’d be opposed to that he’s done this since a kitten gobbles it down throws up and looks at me so feed him again weirdly the second lot stays in him.

Bron and Sheba I just found I think the perfect bowl for him it’s raised and has the shapes to slow him down also ceramic so I’ve ordered it coming tomorrow fingers crossed it works
