Happy Friday :)

Noogi went high last night/this morning - not sure why.
Think it might be time to nudge up to 1u again?
Hi Helen, since you are following SLGS, you should hold his dose for 7 days before increasing (unless he drops under 90 then he would earn a reduction)
You want Nadirs to be 90-149.

You change doses based on how low the dose takes him (not how high).

Please read this if you’ve not yet read it. It may help.
It’s some tried-and-true information from the SLGS section of the "Dosing Methods" sticky, which is located here: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...-low-go-slow-slgs-tight-regulation-tr.210110/

Hold the dose for at least a week:
  • Unless your cat won’t eat or you suspect hypoglycemia
  • Unless your kittyfalls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L). If kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L) decrease the dose by 0.25 unit immediately.
After 1 week at a given dose perform a 12 hour curve, testing every 2 hours OR perform an 18 hour curve, testing every 3 hours. Note: Random spot checks are often helpful to "fill in the blanks" on kitty's spreadsheet. The goal is to learn how low the current dose is dropping kitty prior to making dose adjustments.
  • If nadirs are more than 150 mg/dl (8.3 mmol/L), increase the dose by 0.25 unit
  • If nadirs are between 90 (5 mmol/L) and 149 mg/dl (8.2 mmol/L), maintain the same dose
  • If nadirs are below 90 mg/dl (5mmol/L), decrease the dose by 0.25 unit
As your cat's blood glucose begins to fall mostly in the desired range [lowest point of the curve approaching 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L) and pre-shot value around or below 300 mg/dl (16.6 mmol/L)], do lengthen the waiting time between dose increases. If you decide to change another factor (e.g., diet or other medications), don't increase the insulin dose until the other change is complete (but decrease the dose if your cat's glucose numbers consistently fall below 90 mg/dl (5.0 mmol/L) as a result of the change).

Don't be tempted to rush the process along by increasing the dose more quickly or in larger increments-- no matter how high your cat's blood glucose is! Rushing towards regulation will cost you time in the long run, because you may shoot past the right dose.
Have a nice night :bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi, which low carb food are you feeding? Asking for another CG/sugarcat from South Africa :-)

This is Day 5 on this dose. 2 more days as per SLGS. You are testing enough for TR - is that something you would be comfortable with?

Thanks @Staci & Ivy. I feel like I need to read this info over and over until it sticks!
I wont have time to do a curve til next weekend, so will carry on as usual this week, and assess once I've done a proper curve.

Hi Bhooma

I don't think I'm ready for TR at this stage. Lot of changes in the last few weeks, so feel like I'm still settling into SLGS. But something to consider in the future maybe.

Regarding food... I'm feeding Noogi a mix of wet foods. Primarily Royal Canin Diabetic, which is actually medium carb not low carb. He loves it and I bought a lot of stock. Might consider reducing or stopping this one at some point in the future. He was also on another prescription food which I only recently realized was high carb, so have already stopped that one altogether. During the last few weeks I have been trying out a bunch of low carb foods as a replacement. Mostly imported ones - Weruva tins (Mideast Feast, Polynesian BBQ, Steak Frites), Kit Kat Complete Cuisine and Little Big Paw Tender mousses. Canagan has just become available, altho we haven't tried it yet. All of these options are very expensive! I've only found one locally made food that is low carb, which is Lokuno No Grain Chicken. Noogi eats it but he doesn't love it as much as the other foods. Lokuno's Ocean Fish & Rice seems okay (lowish carb) but not sure rice is a good idea. Compared to the imported foods Lokuno is reasonably priced so its worth looking at. Woolworth's Posh Pets Tuna in Jelly is an occasional treat for him. Whiskas in Jelly is an okay medium-carb option if the imported food is too pricy. Retailers/online shopping: Absolute Pets, Canine&Co, Pet Heaven, TakeALot.
Is this other diabetic cat owner on the forum?

Thanks so much for the food inputs! :) We have several members from South Africa on our FB group. The only one we had (that I remember) on the Board was @stannarp who is no longer active on the Board. These were the list of LC foods in South Africa that she shared at one point:

Low Carb Wet Food
1. Petley's Pates
2. Whiskas in Jelly pouches
3. Bon Appétit mousse tins
4. Pamper Pates
5. Friskies Pates
6. Catmor Jelly pouches
7. Woolworth's Jelly pouches

Raw Food

1. Raw Love
2. Rawvolution
3. Petwise
4. Raw Gold
5. Chef4Pets
6. PaleoPet

Not sure if these are still available/are low carb. I was surprised to see that Whiskas in Jelly now has cereals and is no longer LC!

Lokuno's Ocean Fish & Rice seems okay (lowish carb) but not sure rice is a good idea.
You do want to avoid grains, fruits and vegetables. Food with them is most likely not low carb.
