We're away from home, on an island, without any decent veterinarian support. The local vet spoke of GI bacteria and gave Rico a shot of Baytril. He wants to do the same for the next 4 days. I haven't seen any improvement so far. I fed him some chicken broth with a syringe but his diarrhea (light beige) hasn't stopped and refuses to eat on his own. His BG raised, probably because of the antibiotics. He's not vomiting but keeps licking his lips.

Baytril in not given in the injectable form to cats in the US. Tablets are . It can cause blindness in too large a dose according to drugs.com.

So, should I stop it? Is there a non-medical way to control his diarrhea until we're back home? I also boiled some rice in the chicken broth. Can this help?

How long until you get home? When would you get the probiotic? It might work but if there’s bacteria an antibiotic might be needed I would think. This is above my pay grade unfortunately. We don’t have diagnostics to know what we are dealing with. Maybe switch to Baytril in pill form or another antibiotic? Baytril should start working in a day or 2 I read. If it’s been longer maybe it’s not the right antibiotic. Ask the vet you saw.

I'm going back home on Sunday so I'll see our vet Monday morning. If I order the probiotic tomorrow morning, I'll also get it on Monday. So, what I can really do now is just change the injections to pills. How about his diet? He just vomited what he ate an hour ago... :(

Is there a human antibiotic I could give?
I don’t know what antibiotic to suggest because we don’t know the cause of the symptoms.

Ondansetron is a human drug used for nauseous animals. I’m concerned the vet is not knowledgeable about cat drugs and doses especially after reading about Baytril.

I'll try to leave one day earlier so that I can visit Yanna's vet. He's about 2 hours away from where I am now and on my way back home. I will definitely stop Baytril.

Get hm to give you cerenia and lots of ondansetron so you have both in hand for emergencies. You could look up dosing for Baytril tablets if you want. He’s just had one shot and was it yesterday?

The dose is 0,5-1.0 mg per kg every 6-8 hours. Try 2 mg to start. You can increase if needed. It might take a couple days to help or could help right away. I gave my 7 1/2 pound cat 2 mg every 8 hours. I tried every 12 hours since I didn’t feed her overnight but she still needed it every 8 hours. It usually starts working in about 30-45 minutes.
