? Accuracy of ReliOn vs Libre

Olya

New Member
Hello!
Olya currently has a Freestyle Libre and I'm trying to learn how to use a ReliOn Premier Classic before the Libre sensor ends. Since she has two monitors, I'm comparing what her BG levels read on both and there's a huge discrepancy. (I did make sure both are in mg/dL.)
I've searched to see if anyone else has had this issue, as well as trying to find reports on each glucometer's accuracy, but I haven't found anything. My apologies if I'm missing something!

2/18, 8 pm
Libre: 361 mg/dL
ReliOn: 261 mg/dL

2/19, 12 pm
Libre: 226 mg/dL
ReliOn: 179 mg/dL

2/19, 8 pm
Libre: 341 mg/dL
ReliOn: 235 mg/dL

I really appreciate any insights anyone may have.

Welcome to FDF, we are here to help you in your concerns with Olya, it's good you are comparing BG numbers with ReliOn vs Libre, by experience and what the results of the LIbre has given hundreds of members, counting with me, the ReliOn is the reliable monitor with their strips, Libre will always read higher and will always read very low, as the sensors tend to fall off stop working before the 14 days. It is great you are learning with the ReliOn as the Libre sensor is on I did the same thing and that's when I saw the same difference you noted above between the two, most of the members use the ReliOn as well, for us to help you better, we would like you to create your signature and Spreadsheet, below you have the links, this way all members can be on the same page and we can help you with dosing or any other concern you may have about Olya, by seeing the daily progress, there are many sticky notes in the Main Forum that have valuable information, including on how to test, it is important that diabetic cats consume a wet can diet between 0-10% carbs, below is a Drs Food Chart with many brands to choose from, most of the members enjoy the Fancy Feast Pates, it is US made so no waste goes into the food, the third column contains the %s of carbs, also a Crab Calculator is below, post and ask all your concerns , we are here for you :bighug::cat::cat:

Thank you so much for such a quick response! :) I've updated my signature and will work on learning the spreadsheet this weekend!

Olya has been diabetic a couple times before this, but both times went into remission less than a month after starting insulin and had to stop insulin because her BG was going too low. I'm so scared she's diabetic permanently this time, as her vet said the more times it returns after remission, the less likely it is to go back into remission. She initially became diabetic after taking prednisone for eosinophilic granuloma complex caused by food allergies.

The other times Olya was diabetic, she had a Libre and we never had any issues with it, but unfortunately it's way out of my price range for long-term use. I've seen comments of both humans and cats getting higher numbers with the Libre than the ReliOn, but I haven't seen people reporting readings as vastly different as I'm getting with Olya, so I'm still pretty worried about the ReliOn's accuracy. My vet told me she's read reports of it not being accurate in cats, so I'm really not sure how to proceed. :(

Thank you again for responding! This has been a very scary, stressful month for us. :bighug:

At least 9 out of 10 members here use the ReliOn, the Libre is the one with the issues, we are here for you for any concern you may have no matter how small, you can see Corky’s Spreadsheet down below to have a visual idea:bighug::bighug::cat::cat:

The Libre allows one to view trends like when do BG typically go down and up.. Otherwise it is a guess ofwhen to do between PS BGs. Some caretakers use Libres as their only monitoring. It better that urine glucose and is conservative since my experience is that Libre read lower that earsticks at low BGs.
