Happy Friday, everyone!

Today makes cycle #6 on 1.5 units. He had one cycle with action and the rest has been sitting high.

Tonight his Libre will die and we're planning it on replacing it tomorrow (morning or early afternoon) because it's a two-person job and we need to be on a schedule where there'll be two of us around.

Just wondering what people think in regards dosing tonight and tomorrow morning if we more than likely won't be able to test. So far his lowest nadir on this dose was 109 a couple of days ago. I personally feel like it would be safe, given how high he's been sitting for the past 2 days and that his lowest was still over 100. Based on the info available it seems like skipping 2 doses would cause more harm than just sticking with this dose for 2 more cycles. Thoughts?

(For those who aren't familiar with us, though we'd love to be able to test manually, he doesn't tolerate it no matter what we do and it's traumatic for all involved, which is why we stick with the Libre. Unfortunately that can mean small stretches of time without a reliable testing method.)

Thanks as always for all of your suggestions! Hope everyone has a great Friday.

Have a great Friday, Brianna and Xander, and good luck with the decision--I don't know enough to be able to weigh in, but I'll bump your post up so that hopefully someone will pop in and answer.

Thank you, Marielle, I appreciate the bump! :) I hope you and Jude have a great Friday too! :bighug:

Same as Marielle, I don't know enough to fully weigh in, but I wonder what experienced members would think about a reduced dose? I'm not sure what the right number is, but I have done this in the past when I have a sitter come administer Binx's insulin and they cannot get a PS test.

Hi Brianna, maybe a reduced dose for safety??
What do you think @tiffmaxee or @Angela & Cleo or
@Suzanne & Darcy

Good luck with the installation! You’ve got this!!

I’d look at the pmps bg. He’s been high enough you should be able to shoot provided you can feed and monitor behavior. I would not skip but you could shoot a reduced dose. That would likely just mean watching carefully the first half of the cycle. So if you can feed that would maybe make sense. Maybe shoot 1.0. See what others think.

Thank you all for your responses! It looks like everyone agrees that a reduced dose should be fine. I'm curious to see what the others you tagged might say but I've got a couple hours before PM dose so I'll keep checking in. :)

When cats go under sedation and need to fast they are often given a half dose or a little more. People also give a slightly lower vacation dose when leaving their cats with a cat sitter that won’t be testing. Hope this helps.

That makes sense! Thanks.

He's actually been under 200 now for a bit so I'm less sure :/

Well, he was around 168 at 7:45 and the last reading I got was 199 shortly before PMPS at 8. Not sure if I should still maybe give 1 unit or even 0.5.

Sorry just seeing this. And I see you went with 0.75U

No problem! Thanks for dropping by anyway! Yeah, I gave 0.75 units.

I have narcolepsy so staying awake can be a struggle, but it also means I wake up often, so I'll check on him every time I do. I usually leave him half a can of food when I go to bed that he grazes on for the first half of the night. I doubt he'll have any issue at half a dose though.

Hope all went well, Brianna. Safe surfing Xander :bighug:

Thanks, Staci! It seemed fine. Hard to tell when he's relaxed and sleeping, but I did give him a small amount of 5% food at about +5 just in case.

The application this morning went less than stellar, but I'll save that for today's post lol
