2/28 Kai AMPS 483, +4 255, +6 166, PMPS 130, +2 139, +4 65

Alright! So I have him at a blue 130 pre-shot tonight. I fed him his regular 3% Weruva and he licked the bowl clean.
Paws crossed he rises up just a little and then gently drops into the greens at +4 through +7 and then back up. That would be ideal. I'm going to project those positive thoughts onto the situation and pray that's what happens. It's been a rough day, I could use a win.

Update on Kidney Levels:
So Kai's urine culture came back normal today. Which is great! But also tells us nothing. I expected this because his urine is so diluted becauces... diabetic bouncer.

You can also see a side-by-side comparison of his past labs on his spreadsheet.

Overall, we still don't know why his kidney levels are elevated. And we don't know if this is just AKI or CKD (or both). Kai is still not presenting any physical symptoms. No vomiting, no diarrhea, he eats normally, and his energy levels have been pretty fantastic lately. He drinks water and urinates frequently but on a normal level that is associated with his diabetes. I have started giving him fluids to help with any dehydration. I told the vet I wasn't ready to rule out an infection and I would like to start him on an antibiotic and continue it for a longer duration of 4-6 weeks (last time we were only on the Marbofloxacin for 2 weeks) So we are starting on a new antibiotic, Veraflox, for the next month and will retest.

With that being said, I have been doing some deep dive reading on Tanya's CKD Website about ways that I can help support Kai's kidney functions. So I am looking at some possible additional supplements and any recommendations for them. Specifically, supplements that won't raise Kai's blood glucose or affect his diabetes.

Right now, Kai is on

Foods: Wet food Only
- Tiki Cat After Dark 3 oz Cans (0% Carb)
- 5.5oz Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken 5.5 oz Cans (3% Carb)
- 5.5 oz Weruva Amazon Livin' 5.5 oz Cans (9% Carb)
- Whole Life Freeze Dried Treats - Salmon or Tuna - Crushed and used as food topper
- Vital Freeze Dried Minnows Treats

Supplements
- Jarrow Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS - ½ capsule of 5bn CFU capsule 2x/day (started 9/11/2024)
- Nutramax Cosequin Joint Health Supplement for Cats Max Strength - 1 capsule 1x/day (started 12/20/2024)
- Sub. Q Fluids - 100 mL 1x/day (started 2/1/2025)

Here are some of the things I have been looking into. Please let me know your thoughts on them? Please?

- Oral Vitamin B Complex?
Jarrow B-Right

- Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) - Omega-3 ?
Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Cat

Has anyone had any experience with these two? Would or would you not recommend? Any other suggestions? These looked diabetic friendly?

I hope everyone else has had a nice day ❤️

It's great that Kai is presenting no symptoms of CKD and is eating and drinking well! The worst of the symptoms are nausea, vomiting, inappetence and acidity (besides excessive drinking and peeing). Bandit had a sudden deterioration in kidney values in Jul/Aug 2021 (you can see the labs in her SS). Her CBC showed elevated WBC. so we gave her Enrofloxacin for 2 weeks and started subQ fluids. I think the fluids really helped. Within a month, her kidney values came down.

How much fluids are you giving Kai? The only thing you need to watch out for is his heart. I also see that his potassium levels are high. Did the vet say anything about that? High potassium levels can lead to heart issues. You might also need to choose a type of fluid that has less potassium.

I don't know a lot about CKD, but that FB group can be really helpful. Like with FD, the online support groups can have more experience dealing with CKD than many vets!

I used to give Bandit both B-complex supplements as well Methylcobalamin. I didn't give anything else for CKD.

I was concerned about the fluids and his heart also (I think Wendy had cautioned that to me also) and so i mentioned it to his vet and they ran a cardiopet probnp along with the rest of his blood panel. That came back normal and the vet said that clinically significant heart disease is unlikely at this time. But I am still going to keep an eye on his respiratory rate when i can. So far he has been responding really well to the fluids. I have only been giving him 100ml every other day but i may start back giving everyday this week since i can tell a difference. The vet also said that she wasn't too concerned about his elevated potassium levels at this time.

I have been looking at Bandit's sheets for a bit now and I can definitely see some similarities. I see where you were giving him the B12 injection. I read on Tanya's sight that some cats needed both B-complex supplements as well Methylcobalamin so thank you for confirming that. I think i may go ahead and purchase the B complex supplement and try working it in this weekend.

I have posted on Tanya's CKD forum and I'm waiting for a reply. I'm not big on social media so opted for the forum automatically and forgot about the FB group which i'm sure is probably more active. Thank you for the reminder. I will have to check it out this weekend and get signed up.

I used to give Bandit methyl B-12 shots because she wouldn't eat food mixed with methyl B12! We get methyl B12 in injection form in India and I could give it as a subq shot. I don't think you get methyl B12 injections in the US, but you get methyl B12 in capsule form which can be emptied in food.

Don't ignore the high potassium levels. See what the Tanya support group say about it.
