Well I guess I lied when I said Id start posting everyday. ha. Maybe its just when I remember. So she had a high day on 3/6, that started out low but quickly shot up. Then yesterday it started at 283 and dropped the rest of the day into really nice numbers. I thought I might get away with letting her eat on her own all day, but tried to feed her at +9.5 and she wouldnt eat anything so I finger fed her again. But then she ate a few treats before bed time. She really does eat best about 3 hours or so after the Mirataz. I dont even bother feeding her in the morning anymore, until the Mirataz kicks in. Thank goodness for Lantus not kicking in right away.
If I forget to post tomorrow, shes getting an ultrasound on Monday and if I remember, I might ask if I can try Cyproheptadine on her. I know I cant give it with the Mirataz. I wonder if they ever give out diazepam anymore. I used that on a cat years ago and it made him ravenous! Not sure it would be ok since shes taking prozac tho. Lol, I looked it up and it says Prozac interacts with Cyproheptadine, Gabapentin and Buprenorphine, but Im giving the last two with it, hmm. They are in the moderate category. But O also found Ondansetron (which Im also giving at the same time at the prozac) and its listed in the major category. Shes never had any reactions. Maybe they dont affect cats like they do people.

Oh I hope Karamelle will eat better. You work so hard to help her, Jo. You’re such an awesome cat Mom❤️
I hope one of the meds will work better.

I just got the Levemir in the mail today and looked at it. It appears to be cartridges that you insert in to a pen. I dont want to use it that way because Im starting out at 1.5U and it only does 1U at a time. Can I use the U100 insulin syringes that I use with the Lantus pens? And which end of the cartridge do I stick? I took a photo of the cartridges, but cant figure out how to post it.

Yes, you can use the U100 syringes. Insert in the green end, which has a small hole in the middle. Do not inject air, the cartridges work on negative pressure. Insulin syringe at zero, then draw out what you need.

Fingers crossed! Of course shes having a pretty good Lantus day today. Id just like to see it stay more regular and not so much fluctuation. I hope this does the trick. Im debating on whether I should start tonight or tomorrow. I dont monitor her during the night after I go to bed, which is around pm +3.
 
I would be inclined to say start tomorrow when you can monitor, perhaps +3, +6, +9, since some kitties can have a good reaction to the switch. My Mav didn’t but he always liked to do things his way. The patterns may well be different than what you saw on Lantus, so it will take some time to get a feel for how Lev works for Karamelle. I felt like a bit of a newbie all over again when I switched.

Pick a time to switch when you can monitor closely for the first two cycles. Sometimes the reaction is in the second rather than first cycle.

Good luck! Ditto what Christie said about feeling like a newbie all over again, relearning patterns and when the onset and nadir times were. Having said that, Neko's second cycle on Lev was practically flat blue - never saw that on Lantus! The first few cycles you will be seeing an overlap of some Lantus action with Lev action, so it'll take a few days to see what Lev by itself is doing.

Thanks Wendy. Ive decided to wait till Tuesday am to switch. Im home most of the time for a few days after that. Shes getting an ultrasound done on Monday and that will screw everything up, so I dont want to put an insulin switch in the mix. They gave me no instructions about feeding and whether to give insulin the morning of, so I called the ER (because my vet, where shes getting the ultrasound, wont be open till right before I have to bring her in) and they said to give her insulin as normal and feed her a meatball size or less of food. Hopefully her numbers will have raised up some, so I wont worry too much.
Ironically, shes had her best numbers (in a long time) in the last two days. Shes still not eating well tho. I hope I can figure out how to fix that.

Yeah, Im sure I will feel like Im starting all over again, but not quite as confused as I was in the beginning hopefully. Ive decided to wait till Tuesday am. Shes getting an ultrasound done Monday and I just want to wait till shes home and back to normal for the switch.
