Tim! I am so happy for you both! He's got this! :bighug::cat: All your hard work has gotten you here and you both deserve this break. What a great way to celebrate the start of spring! :D
Aww thanks Kat. We have definitely given it our all, so it’s cool to see it paying off. Happy first day of spring!

Haha...funny picture!. If that AMPS didn't signal to you that he's ready for the OTJ trial, I don't know what else could.
Good luck, Tim and Pookey!!
Haha, thanks Mary. And I know right. Kinda glad I didn’t have to shoot that…

Here are the directions in case you don’t have them.

OTJ instructions
  • Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
  • If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
  • Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. She may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we haveto give a little more support in the form of resuminginsulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we justgive her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush intoremission just to have it fail later on.

Once she is through the trial successfully, you enter a newphase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the mannersuccessful for your kitty. If you decide to change herfeeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them andsteroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first monthand then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If she seems "off" orsick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see risingblood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Good luck!

Thank you! I was wondering if I needed to get the mid-cycle tests at least for a couple days while the depot drained, so this answers that. If there is a depot it’s got to be pretty small anyways…

Hooray for Tim and Pookey!! SO happy for Day 1!:D
Glad to see Pookey is being Pookey and looking for your routine!!
You've got this and we are so happy for you :D
