We are starting to see a lot more blues lately, minus the fur shot from yesterday :cool:
I opened a new bottle of insulin a few days ago and I think that may be the main contributing factor here. I was trying to stretch his last bottle for 3 months but I think 2 may be the max :banghead: I think we may also be looking at an increase to 2.5 this week but I need a bit more testing before I do that.

I hope everyone has a great day!:cat:

Nice to see those blue BG numbers , If you decide to increase this week best of luck with that
I was looking at your post from yesterday and Kai sure looked cozy on that shelf. We always panic when we can't find them even though we know that they didn't get out . It's happened to me before and my heart was pounding out of my chest. These kitties want to give us a heart attack :p
I hope Kai will give you some green today :bighug::bighug::cat:

Hi Maddie, just a thought, you may want to try using the pens instead of a vial. They are smaller in volume, so therefore they wouldn’t need to last as long and then you wouldn’t be wasting the rest of the bottle if you felt it was not being effective.
I really like using the pens instead of a vial for that reason specifically, plus the bonus in my head is that if God forbid I drop the vial, I lose the whole thing, but if I dropped a pen and it broke for some reason, it’s only a smaller amount of insulin.
And the box of pens should be the same cost as a vial.
Hopefully, you are able to get either one at $35 now for insulin.
Hope you and Kai have a great day

You can definitely get 5 pens of Lantus or the generic Glargine

You can Check
CVS, Rite Aid, Costco, Walgreen's, to get the price for 5 pens either Lantus or the generic Glargine , plenty of members use the generic
Just call around and see who has the cheapest price , it's really not that expensive
With the pens just keep them in the fridge middle shelf , they all have the expiration date on them .

Also
The 5 pens will last about a year, we use the pens just like a vial, you would just insert the syringe it the gray rubber stopper on the pen and draw out your insulin
Its generic lantus

If you use the Good Rx
GoodRX has a 1-800 number to assist you in using their services to get your pets prescriptions filled if the pharmacy gives you any issues.

I think I found it for you

Also
A membersaid she followed this prescription info exactly and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

Just take the cap off the pen and use a U100 syringes and pull the insulin out of the pen!

I'm so glad to see him surfing the blues! Go Kai!

I know others swear the vials last up to six months, but I'm afraid to go much over two months on one.

Thanks everyone! ❤️
Kai did SUPER great today... well from what i could tell with the one mid day test . We got to see a green:D! But I will do more testing tonight. I can definitely tell he feels GOOD because he keeps attacking my feet and jump scaring me lol he is very playful today:cat:

I had read that the vials could last up to 6 months for some cats. However, every cat is different - ECID. I think Kai has given me enough proof that he needs a new vial at least every 2 months.

I've read about the pens and how they can be used just like the vials and I have considered trying them. I just need to get on top of securing a pharmacy supplier for them and getting his vet to write a prescription for the pen instead of the vial. I think i have one refill prescription for the vials left. Once i use that up then I will look into the pens. Thank you for all the great information!

With that being said, April will mark 1 year since we started on the Lantus YAY! Previously we were on Vetsulin and then Prozinc and those were just too harsh on him. I am so glad we switched to Lantus, Kai has definitely shown improvement on it even with the battles of glucose toxicity, pancreatitis, and possible CKD/AKD (still working on this last one lol). We have come a long way and we couldn't have done it with out the support of this community, so thanks everyone! ❤️ :bighug: ❤️

I hope everyone has had a lovely day! ❤️
