Mr. Pete had a good day in the blues yesterday. Hopefully just a short bouncy bounce today. Last day on his anti-inflammatory. I have increased his water consumption greatly and narrowing down some low phos, low carb, novel protein foods to try.

As you know he's been giving me a hard time for his shots -just doesn't want any more pokes. So I made a ground lamb and water puree and give him just enough to get the shot done. He loves it and totally distracted by something good! Winning!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Great job, Laurie! Hope Petey comes back to the blues

His lamb snack sounds enticing. Glad he enjoyed it so you could give his shot.
I’m sure they are all sick of the shots :(

Wishing you all a very calm Friday :bighug::cat::bighug:

Thank you, Staci. I thought of your lamb stew and might end up asking for the recipe if this food search goes on any longer.

You'd think there would be a lot more foods marketed specifically for kidney health. The amount of time and work Tanya put into that huge list of CKD foods is amazing, especially knowing very few companies disclose the important numbers openly.

I agree. It’s crazy how they really don’t address all the common issues! So many need these diets.

I hired a veterinarian nutritionist who formulated the recipe I use to address kidney and diabetes issues, and I needed a novel protein. Lots to address.

You’re doing great with your sweet Petey :bighug::bighug:

I'm glad you've been able to find something to entice Petey and keep him distracted during the dreaded shots. Are you cooking the lamb or feeding raw? The food hunt is a challenge. Like you and others here, I've been meaning to find something with lower phos for Jude (something other than FF). So far, he really doesn't like anything I've tried :( (mostly Tiki After Dark and Weruva brands). I'd like to make our food for all my cats, but I just don't have the time.

Also, let me run something by you: I read somewhere about Cat Water (by Vet Water--on Amazon). It's mineral free and ph-balanced. I'm not sure if it's something that would be beneficial for Petey. I think I'm going to try it for Jude. It may just be another thing we spend money on that does nothing for him. I don't know. What do you think about it?

Have a good day, and I hope Petey slides down into those blues for you!

I cooked it.... raw worries me.

I don't know anything about the vet water but I will add to the research list. I was thinking if I couldn't get him to drink more with his food I would flavor some with just a little liver or tuna juice. But surprisingly he's letting me add quite a bit of water to his food, which is especially good for the meds he's on.

I worried we might start seeing some kidney issues cause he used to drink sooooo much water plus the hydracare, then that stopped... I think that is part of the trouble and the rabbit is high phos. Interestingly his phos in 2022 was the same it is now... and that was about a month after adoption, then it was lower last Dec. I know it can fluctuate but worth looking at what I was doing in between those tests.

Regardless I want to be proactive and do everything I can to support his kidneys, we don't need that too! Imagine if there was an "all the other stuff juice" and all you do is cook a certain amount of protein and puree for the perfect consistency. :bookworm:

Give Jude some pets for me.

Sounds like you're mastering the art of distraction, Laurie! Glad to hear it's working.

Hope Petey can ride these blues into the PM cycle :bighug:
