Aghhh! He's was shooting slightly "higher" yesterday..I was shocked to see 44. He seems OK so far. I gave him some fresh food that he ate and then unfortunately immediately threw up a hair ball.. I'm going to test again in 15.

Does this mean I stop injecting insulin now?

Edit: It's actually been 30 minutes already.. still +2.5 44

I think you can forego the drop dose and go straight to OTJ Trial. Let's get some more eyes on your SS to confirm. @Bandit's Mom @Wendy&Neko @tiffmaxee lots of 50s and 60s in that SS :D. OTJ?
I agree. With all green at 0.10U and a reduction earned, I would start an OTJ trial from the next green preshot. He might see some blues tonight if he bounces from that lime - or he might not!

Let's give that boy some high carb food, just a little maybe a tsp or two and test again in 20-30 minutes.

I gave him a tsp of what I thought was high carb (in gravy) cat food, but it only seems like 1.75% actually (according to http://felinenutritioncalculators.com/carbcalorie.html).. anyway he lapped it up and that got his appetite back to pick at his other wet food..so i'll retest soon but feeling better now that he ate.

Of course this is all only a few weeks old for me but the first time he's dropping into the 40s is when I have 2 test strips left of my initial hundred and was planning on going to walmart this morning for more !!!

Edit: Is this is the main thread on OTJ trials? https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...ng-reductions-and-starting-otj-trials.150160/

Any other information I need? What does OTJ stand for? lol.

OTJ. Means Off The Juice Trial
When you start it you post everyday and instead of putting AMPS you will put AMBG and PMBG for the night test.
You will also put a blank line above the date you start it and put OTJ Trial and highlight it

So if you start tomorrow or tonight on your title you would put the Date AA AMBG # OTJ Trial Day 1
So we can follow along

They say if you get a blue AMBG or PMBG get another test @+3 to see if it's green

Best of luck :cat:

Not to jump the gun lol. Found this
OTJ instructions
  • Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
  • If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
  • Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. She may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we haveto give a little more support in the form of resuminginsulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we justgive her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush intoremission just to have it fail later on.

Once she/ he is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change her/ his feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see risingblood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Absolutely!

And now he's playing with my emotions jumping up to 80! Although, everyone has said a few blues are probably too be expected.
