Happy Meownday everyone :)

Fistuk will have the surgery this Wednesday!! The vet wrote today that someone cancelled, and we could have the appointment.

It's a blessing. Fistuk is stable, but I can see the tears and inflammation in the eyes increasing, so it's best not to wait.

I'm still giving him Ondansetron. 3mg. But maybe I'll just go up to 4mg again. I'm not sure how much it'll make a difference at this stage. He's very happy to eat when he's syringe fed, but when eating alone, he takes a few licks and then stops. He just needs to have these teeth removed.

I read through the anaesthesia information docs they sent me. my stomach turns upside down. My poor little one. This will be painful. But this clinic is treating only cats! For years. So they have a lot of knowledge and I trust that Fistuk is in the best hands possible.

Hi Shelly I'm glad you can get Fistuk in sooner for the dental. Fistuk sounds like he will be in very good hands at that clinic . I'm happy to see he's staying stable. I stop in the church by me everyday and I light a candle for Ashley , my Dad and my Mom. I will be lighting one for Fistuk also for everything to go well for our fighter . Hi Shelley, so happy to hear that Fistuk can get in sooner to take care of those teeth. I had a kitty who had to have 16 teeth removed at once. The recovery was tough and long but so worth it once she healed. She was no longer in pain and was so much happier. It is very scary to have to watch them go through these bumps, but from what I have read about Fistuk, he is a fighter. Sending both of you all the strength needed to get through this. :bighug:

Fistuk had all his teeth removed in 2018, besides the canine ones. It was not easy back then but he recovered quickly. Now he's gained a few years and a few health conditions.... so we'll see how this goes. But indeed, he's a fighter and he has a way of getting the stars to align with the support he needs. I believe in him.

And I'm really super happy that I've found this special vet practice. They're only cat-only vet practice in Switzerland. i didn't even know something like that existed. It makes os much sense.

I think it’s great you have found a cat only practice. I wish that’s what I was using.
I think it makes a lot of sense as they are so much more To all things cat related.

We will be thinking of you and Fistuk on Wednesday and sending you tons of healthy vines and prayers for his easy recovery.

Oh Shelly I'm sure you're relieved that you can get him in sooner. We'll be thinking about you on Wednesday. In the meantime we're sending lots and lots of PAWsitive and healing vines your way.
Fistuk is a strong little one. He'll recover quickly and you're such a wonderful mama to him he'll be in good hands post op.

Lots of healing vines from Jude and I to Fistuk! Will you need to syringe feed him when he comes home? This sounds complicated, but I know you'll do an excellent job caring for him.

No, I'm not familiar with this information. Thank you for sharing it.

I've glanced at it briefly and will have a closer look today.

But I can say that the vet asked me to feed him a small portion of the food 2-3 hours before the surgery. In fact, this has nothing to do with diabetes. She's given me an info sheet on the way they prepare, conduct and monitor anaesthesia. It says that having some food before the surgery helps to prevent HG and makes the digestion less acidic so they find that it's best to feed some and give half the portion of the insulin.

She also explains in that info sheet everything they do in order to get the best decision about the anaesthesia and how they monitor him during the surgery. It all sounds very scary and at the same time very informed and skilful.

I'm happy to post it here if anyone's interested. It's in German but even I use deepl to understand it :p

Yes, as you walk into the practice it's all designed for cats. The atmosphere is completely different. Nothign against dogs, but no cat in a stressful time waiting for the vet wants to hear dogs barking!

Also, they write in the info sheet that after the surgery, they move the cat don't a warm blanket and give them lots of TLC because cats really need that as they wake up from anaesthesia.

Keep on praying for us that everything goes smoothly. I'll be thinking of you two as you visit the vet today :bighug::bighug::bighug:

You know, the funny galactic thing was that this Wednesday I had a full scheduled day and then one by one, my appointments were cancelled and then I got the email from the vet's office. So clearly it needs to happen sooner than later :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I can only imagine that I'll need to syringe feed him if I already syringe feed him now. The vet also writes in her info sheet that this may be the case so we're prepared to do that :bighug::bighug::bighug:
