Hello all, we moved oregano up from 2.25 to 2.5 two days (4 doses ago) and she does not seem to have improved much in numbers. Is this normal? I know it can take a little time but I would have thought the bump in dose would reflect some at least. Will hold it for 5 more days but was just wondering if this lack of improvement after an increase two days ago is to be expected.

thanks y’all,

oregano and wade

I’m not experienced enough to glean anything from oregano’s spreadsheet or offer advice, but I will say that for Charlie, he usually doesn’t show what’s he’s going to do on a dose (if he’s going to do anything at all) until the third day, and I believe that is normal. The two days before that he usually gets new dose wonkiness.

Hopefully someone will pop by and offer some advice :bighug: and I hope she starts coming back down soon :bighug:

Agree with Jess above that day 3 is often when you see what a dose is really doing. Hope you see some action soon Wade :)

Not unusual to see a kitty hit a band of yellow/pink/reds after some early success. Indicates there might be some insulin resistance going on.
I'm sure one of the more experienced members will pop in and give you dosing advice.

Have you considered moving to TR? You certainly are getting enough data to do so. Perhaps read up on that on the Sticky notes and see if its for you?

Could it be the fungal UTI? It looks like she'll be on the antifungal course for a month, it could still be affecting BG? Hope it gets better soon. :)

Hi Wade

I also wonder if she has some infection going on. If she hadn’t seen some blue, I’d suggest we fast track her dose but we can’t do it with blues Bags in the mix.

Tomorrow is a week at 2.5u so it’s time to increase her to 2.75u on Tuesday.

yep, will do. Last dat at 2.5 is tomorrow. Then on to 2.75. She seems to feel fine but I do worry what these persistently high mid 300 days are doing to her long term.

I understand. The only way to get through them quicker to a better dose is TR.

Yep. Understood. TR terrifies me.
We start at 2.75 tomorrow am and she is just about entirely soft food which is LC. I am hopeful 2.75 does the trick. The numbers were actually worse at 2.5 than 2.25 which seems counterintuitive.

I’m working off the assumption here that with slgs it is the case that eventually the right dosage is hit and we can just keep that dose for the duration. I have read all the notes on the depot effect with Lantus and it seems like she just hasn’t been getting enough to fill the depot.

Doses can change as long as she’s diabetic. My kitty rarely held a dose long but I’ve seen some cats hold them for a few months. I’ve also seen cats very close to remission hold them for quite some time never really stepping in to that remission arena.

In other words, she might start doing well at 3u or 3.25u but it’s anyone’s guess as to how long she will stay there. We often see kitties earn a reduction and then have to go back up and sometimes go back up even higher.

It’s your decision which route to go. TR just doesn’t let her stay in such high numbers for so long but it is more aggressive.
