Missy is doing well. She had a higher BG day yesterday but looks like she is heading for a low day today.

How can I keep the BG at a nice pace... she usually just drops so quickly.

Feed her a little LC every hour to prevent any dives. HC/MC are usually only for numbers below 50.

How often should I test her at this point? This is usually her cycle and time of day that she dives.

 

You can test her every hour. Feed a little LC with every test. We usually test more often than that only for numbers below or close to 50.

And remember that even though 50-99 is terrifying, they are NORMAL numbers!

Yes I’m retraining my brain to understand this more and more. Green is good... it’s hard when you’re so used to higher numbers. But I’m so happy she is healing.

I actually tested her just now so a little early by a few minutes and she is still holding steading at 126.

Good evening everyone...
well I have been wondering what direction Missy will be going in tonight. Usually its the daytime she will go lower and increase in the evening. Today she was a nice steady blue... and looks like thats whats happening tonight as well. Any suggestions to keep her stable.. I was doing 1/4 can of LC every hour when I test her. It seemed to work pretty good. But I guess that means no sleep for me tonight if thats the case.

Most cats go lower at night, so you might see green again tonight!

she was 153 @ +1, now she's 104 @ +2.
What do I do?

 

Feed a little 13% MC (1 or 2 tsp) and test in an hour.

What is her daily quota of food? 3 cans? 2?

 

I gave her about 2tbs. It’s really hard to just get the gravy. She’s eating the gravy but leaving probably half the meat.
Just so I am prepared. What do I do if she doesn’t eat at some point because she’s probably starting to get full.

 

When she gets too full, you give her only the gravy - when you want to raise low numbers.

Yes she eats 3 cans. Whatever she wants. I’m not strict with that. I’m wanting her to put weight on. So if she’s hungry I feed her. But usually 3 cans.

she has eaten it all now and licked the spoon. Hopefully that will work.

Well I checked again. I only waited 30 min and not 1 hour. It went down 81.

now what do I do?

 

I’m getting worried. What if she’s dropping lower? I find she is not really carb sensitive. Last time this happened the MC food didn’t do much. She dropped as well.

I know you have other people to help but if I don’t hear from you for a while can you give me an idea of the decisions I need to make and when. Just so I’m ready to act if need be.

Correct me if I’m wrong but should I be offering HC food yet?
What would someone do if their cat was having a hypo attack. Rub honey or corn syrup on gums. I’ve read all the sheets. I also read if they are having a seizure to put honey or corn syrup up their bum. Is that correct? How much would you put up the bum?

No last time I fed her was at +2. I just tested her at +2.5. It was 81.

Now at +3 it’s still 81

 

That is good. She is not dropping. I would feed her a little LC only. If she will eat it.

Well she did drop from +2 104 to 81. In less than one hour. In 30 min she went from 104 to 81.

Great. I think it's safe to test in an hour. I think the drop has slowed and 80 is a good safe number. Just because they fall 100 points in the first hour, does not mean they will continue to fall at the same pace every hour. Marje explained it in a post recently. Let me find it for you.

Tammy, you are in Canada, right? You can enter the numbers in the World mmol tab of your SS and it will automatically calculate the US values for you.

 

Yes I am in Canada. For some reason I can’t get the conversion tab to work so I have to convert her BG.

So I just tested at +4 and she dropped a tiny bit to 79.

More LC (1 sp) and test in an hour. She has flattened out since +2.5. She should hopefully stay flat.

You have to keep testing till she starts heading up without food. So, test at +5 - if she is higher, don't feed and test again at +6 to see if she stays up without a snack. I will check back at your +5 nevertheless. So test and post here before feeding her, okay?

She should head up now. Don't feed and test in an hour and if she is flat or higher, you can call it a night. I thought she would be around 100.

If you are too tired to test, you can always leave food out and go to bed.

I may not be around for your +6. If she's flat or higher she will be fine. I really doubt she will dip into dangerous zones tonight. Her nadir is at +5/+6.

Just updating... tested her at +6. She’s just down a tiny bit. She is now 91 @ +6.
So I think you would consider that flat still?

 

I gave her just a little bit of LC. I will test her in one hour again.

 

Just saw this. Yes still flat within meter variance. Have you managed to get any sleep at all between tests?

 

How much was she at +7?

 

Just took her +7 163. That’s a jump up in a hour.
I got about 45 min of sleep between +6 and +7. I can probably sleep longer now. I doubt she’s going to go back down now.

 

Definitely headed up. Take a break from tests till AMPS!
