J.D. was purry last night while laying on me, especially when he got cat treats, then his purrs got really loud, for him.

Our power went out from 10:00pm until 4:50am this morning. I usually get up at 5, so thought I may as well get up, but the T.V. and Internet and Phone Service were still out, so I couldn't log onto the computer or watch T.V.

I'm glad everything is back on, but when we went out this morning for our first walk, I heard a noisy thing like a motor running and they have some kind of generator chained to a green box which I guess is our power something or other.
Luckily, it was a cool night and windows open (in the complete darkness nailbite_smile ) kept the house at a nice temperature.

J.D. happily ate a few bites of FF Cod, Sole, & Shrimp, and then had 20ml of MaxCal syringed at AMPS or a little before, and had another 20ml syringed at +0.5.

Time for another walk.

No poos yet, this morning. Miralax syringed.

I hope everyone has a good day, including J.D. I hope he has much better BG numbers when I get home, and eats some food during the day, and has a nice easy poo.

Sending healing vines to all who need some, including J.D.

it always feels like an adventure when the power is out - that's a really long time for it to stay off. i wonder what caused it to fail.

sending feel good vines to little JD. :-D

Re: 07/30 J.D. AMPS 571

Thanks Julie.

Apparently the generator was only supplying power to my condo as the rest of the condos were still out of electricity when I talked to my neighbors this morning.

Re: 07/30 J.D. AMPS 571

in response to your PM...

foods i use for assist feeding by syringe: i have a few cases left of the old formula Merrick Before Grain 96% Turkey (#4) that i mix with either a can of Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey or a can of Wellness Before Grain Turkey. i've simply been trying to use up the Merrick i have because it expires next year and it's a flavor she's not particularly fond of anyway (trying to avoid food aversion). sometimes i'll use other LC - lower phos varieties that i have hanging around here because i'm tired of throwing away so much.

i have tried the IAMS Maximum Calorie, but it was a no go with alex. however, i will go back to it if i need to at some point. you're lucky J.D. will eat it.

many members with p-titis kitties try to feed foods with a lower fat content, but i focus on feeding low carb and lower phos foods because % of fat hasn't seemed to matter with alex. what has mattered is not letting her stomach get empty. food is always available... no matter what. if she doesn't eat often i'll randomly give her a 10 mL snack. i can't swear by it, but she sure doesn't seem to be in pain if she has a little food in her tummy.

syringes: shoot! i gave the rest of my syringes away after no one said they wanted any more. i can send you some used ones if you don't mind that they've been used. let me know.

i order Short Tip PE Oral Syringes from SKS Science: http://www.sks-science.com/lab-supply-p-4340.html.
#9300-04 10 ml Short Tip Oral Syringes 144/cs $36.00
i LOVE these syringes... have them in several sizes!

how is assist feeding going? i'm sure you've seen How To Assist Feed / Force Feed Cat By Syringe on YouTube. it's one of the better assist feeding videos i've seen. several months ago i went back to it because i felt i was missing something... doing something wrong... because alex wasn't anything like the cat in the video! syringe feeding was very messy and quite a chore for both of us. neither of us enjoyed it.

anyway, to make a long story short... the lady in the video doesn't add liquid when she prepares syringes for feeding. omitting the liquid made all the difference in the world for us. now the experience is pleasant, enjoyable, and mess-free!

btw, blending two 5.5 ounce cans of cat food without adding water will fill approximately twenty-four 10 mL syringes... depending on the length of time blended.

meds/supplements: interesting about the cypro no longer working. not too long ago my vet and i had an awesome discussion about using meds and supplements after i mentioned yet more meds and supps we might consider using with alex (suggested by members of this board). his take is while a message board is great for people sharing what works for their cat it can become dangerous to push drugs and supps for every cat in same or similar situations. we've actually seen vet bashing here because a vet wouldn't give a particular med to the caregiver. the idea is to give only what is necessary when it is necessary. to do otherwise isn't good for the cat. sometimes meds stop working when you need them most. sometimes meds interact with each other. sometimes some meds aren't good for some cats for a myriad of reasons. our talk made sense to me. we've now adopted a minimalist approach to meds/supplements... using only what she needs when she needs it.

i hope i've answered your questions.

i think of you and JD often...
take care.

Re: 07/30 J.D. AMPS 571

At least the power was essentially out overnight rather than during the day. We live in a remote area and frequently lose power. The WORST is when it's right before dinner time and we're stuck eating crackers and dried fruit by the light of headlamps.

I have to admit that looking at JD's spreadsheet absolutely terrifies me. I don't know if I could deal with days that go from 600 to under 100 regularly. Poor kitty and poor bean!

I hope they get the power fixed for everyone soon. Sending more appy and poo vines for J.D. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 07/30 J.D. AMPS 571

I know what you mean about it being really dark when the power is out. The last time it happened was during a full moon, so I opened all of the blinds and it wasn't so bad. I'm glad your condo had power at least. Hopefully everyone is back on now. Sending tons of vines for J.D. and for you, Dyana. So sweet that you got extra loud purrs for treats. :-D

J.D. has gone on two walks so far tonight. I have given two 10ml syringes of MaxCal. No Poo. I am waiting for poo.

I think I may have given a "fur shot" of his bupe which is given in his cheek pouch. He twists his head around and I felt the carpet under his head and did not feel wet (but it is such a teeny little bit), but the outside of that side of his face did feel wet. I don't know if I should give him more or not.

He got Miralax again tonight. I hope he goes poo. Come on poo. poo. poo.

Jill, thanks for your response to my PM and thanks for the link to the syringes. I have 8 of the 10ml and am just washing them a lot. I can get about eight 10ml syringes from 1/2 can of Maximum Calorie, so that would be sixteen 10ml syringes per 6oz can.
I had two syringes of the MaxCal left for tonight, and just blended up a big can of Authority Kitten Chicken & Liver. At least it smells better than that MaxCal does.

Hi Dyana,
We are sending "eat yer fuds" vines tonight to J.D. And hopes that his numbers will come down. I bookmarked Jill's post on assist feeding. Really good info. there.

Glad that your power is on and hope that it will be on for the rest of your complex soon. Generators are great!

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

I took J.D. out for a third walk tonight, but it was getting dark, so I kept him on a leash. He peed, and then he tried to poo, and I thought nothing came out, but he did get a small (less than 1 inch) piece of perfect color and perfect firmness piece of poo out.

I offered some of the blended up Authority Kitten Chicken & Liver to J.D. before I syringed it and he was licking it and probably had a least one 10ml syringe size of the food via spoon, before I syringed another 10ml into him. I guess I shouldn't have done that as now he may not every like it again. I should probably have blended the Cat On The Wok or whatever it's called that has pumpkin soup in it, instead. Oh well.

I guess, tomorrow, I try 1/4 teaspoons of Miralax BID and see how that does.

Off to bed for us.

Night Night.
