yesterday

Wow! What a trip! I cant even type how high she was at my last check of +6 (it was a record...breaking almost all barriers for her! ). But I will say she took a 130+pt dive (again) between then and when we woke....lots of kibble gone, and from the moment we woke she has been eating, drinking, and howling. If this clears quickly and she drops fast this a.m. we are just going to be going in circles again. cat(2)_steam It was a complete surprise that she would go so high, despite the two drops yesterday.

I really feel for those of you with cats who have super high numbers now. I know its been written before, but low numbers you can manipulate and bring up most of the time. High numbers feel so helpless!!!! This a.m. as I was picking her up, I had to rememeber....she doesnt care what the meter says. She just cares about the fact she is soon to be poked, that she has food, her water bowl is filled to the top, and momma talks to her. That helped a little.

We have the appt at the University later this afternoon for the blood draw and u/a. Regular vet is old hat, the U makes me nervous....its so big and hospital like, LOL. For those not familiar it is a large teaching hospital (both humans and pets). A ton of valuable research comes out of there. It's a great resource and Im glad we have it so close by. Anyway, Im not sure if I will get labs immediately like we have gotten through the ER or if I have to wait for the dr to call, discuss, and release them. The main reason we are going is to have a specialized test to confirm (or not) metabolic acidosis, which is related to the kidney disease. The blood draw and U/A will complement the special test, and point to any other concerns we should be addressing. Her specialist said if in fact the MA is confirmed, untreated....she will go down hill quickly. So this needs to be done asap. She will NOT being seeing her dr for a physical exam today. We will have to schedule that when he is in clinic at the end of the month.

Whew! Best get going with our a.m.....

Re: 1/11 Latte AMPS- 331, +1.5- 340, +2-293

Deep thoughts, on my way out the door....

I almost wonder if back in the summer, when she took the pred (pre FD), if she was actually diabetic sooner than we discovered....like almost immediately. Possibly from the dex shot? I thought the pred was making her eat so much over the summer and have been disappointed with some of her unreliability eating wise, now that she is back on the pred. But maybe she was eating so well because she constantly had high BG. And drinking so much because of it, too. With the insulin, numbers are lower, not so ravenous. (though still doing pretty well)

I only say this because observing her in the last 8-10hrs with her numbers so high, she has been eating A LOT and drinking sooooo much. It's more like dropping behavior, but she is not really dropping much.

I looked back at her ER visit when she got the dex shot and started pred. Glucose was 112. I guess she was not feeling well at the time either. But thats a lot higher than other labs that showed her usually in the 50-70 range.

I dunno...Hope she slowly goes down to some upper bloooooooos.

And I hope everyone has a good monday!

Good luck today at that hospital...sounds impressive...it will be a good thing for you and latte...
Keep us posted...

Re: 1/11 Latte AMPS- 331

I hope all goes well at the U today. University med centers are great places for complicated health issues. I'll be thinking about you guys today.

Re: 1/11 Latte AMPS- 331

Wow.....she REALLY didn't want you to leave yesterday! @-)

Hoping her numbers drop soon, and safely, and that all goes well today at the U. All my experiences there with Winston were great. It'a fabulous place and the techs seriously go above and beyond.

Rock your tests today, Latte!!!

Re: 1/11 Latte AMPS- 331, PMPS- 187 (Recap and vet)

Latte may have been diagnosed with "Sasha Syndrome". She dropped about 100 pts between exiting and returning home from the clinic. Last vet visit she dropped from high bloo's(?) to mid greens. So now I know what to do when she is running high. ;-) She usually rides REALLY well in the car. I didnt even think that she might be dropping on the way home when she was meowing and clawing to get out of her carrier (not normal behavior). Thought she was sick of the traffic, too. When she went straight for the kibble, didnt think much of it either because often adrenalin from a vet visit gets her to eat. Then....the test! ohmygod_smile DUH!

BG Recap

amps- 331 (coming down from 46o-something at pmps +6 last night! )
+1.5- 440
+2 - 293
+9.25 - 279 (immediately before leaving for vet)
+11- 187 (immediately apon return from vet...well after she dove into kibble bowl )
pmps - 187

BLOOD DRAW/CLINIC update

I was asked about her meds. She kept putting her pen down after each one, thinking it was the last! Uhhhh.....keep writing lady! When she asked how much insulin, I said, "Ummm...somewhere between 1.5 and 1.75u". She gave me the strangest look. I told her I call it a "fat 1.5, sometimes a FAT 1.5, but definately NOT 1.75u. haha_smiley Another strange look..."just call it a 1.5". Wonder what she wrote down?

Latte came home with a bandaid on her back leg. The only place I am not allowed to touch are her back legs/paws. I think they hurt a lot....like a REAL lot, to be touched. I guess thats why I got the "oh crap" look from the tech when I asked them to be careful with touching her back legs...she doesnt like it!

On a more serious note - it took a lot of arm twisting (and again many strange looks) to have them print a copy of the blood/gas test for me, because there were no normal values listed so interpretation would be impossible. A handful of the values I was able to compare to another set of labs she had done there in May or June. I highly suspect by comparing the two, there some significant disturbance going on. The question is, what...respiratory, metabolic, or mixed acidosis. I tried researching and figuring some of it out, but its just all speculation. The dr will call in the next day or two once he reviews the Blood gas test with the u/a and chem panel. nailbite_smile If there is anything questionable he will want to see her before offering a treatment plan, Im sure. He did not see her today...just blood draw.

I will try to post something on health with results...maybe someone who knows more about it can chime in (Jess?)

Im exhausted! Probly not going to do more than a bed test, as Im sure she will have kibble spike galore at any point.

I can just see the vet (or tech) writing and then glancing up at you with a strange look every time you answered her questions with an unexpected response. Hahaha! I wonder if they have ever heard of a FAT or SKINNY dose. Picturing you explaining all this just makes me laugh.

There are the right moments and wrong moments for something like this. THIS was the right moment and I enjoyed watching it transcend into this wonderful mass of confusion on her face.

I hope all the results turn out fine.
I too can see the vet looking at you as you are explaining the fat and skinny dose. After you left she probably ran right to her colleagues to see if they knew what you were talking about. :?

haha_smiley ROTFLOL ~ Dude, I told you - vets don't speak our slang! I can so very clearly ee that look! After the attemp of explaining.."just put 1.5" had me laughing out loud.

You didn't say - did they get clean pee????? (seriously - where else is that something you can say so excitedly??? ....and really want to know! )

and did you wait there to shoot, or pull the car over on 94 to shoot her?

At least after your exhausting day, she gave you a VASTLY improved pmps from a (gasp!) 460! What a good girl you are Princess! cat_pet_icon

Have a relaxing night! Go take a bath! I-)
