    Oh, Patty... :(

I suppose the GI upset is understandable. Did the oncologist or your vets give you any idea of side effects to expect, or how long they take to wear off after dose administration?

This is so hard, and my heart goes out to you both.

I gave him some gaba. He was whiny so I thought he might be in some pain.
The chemo pill is called Lomustine and it takes from 2-5 days to 2 weeks to
show improvement. I am so worried about him. I hope and pray he'll improve
soon. I don't want him to suffer.

Did the oncologist give you any literature or explanations about what to expect in the way of side effects, Patty? I'm asking because there might be something in there to give you an idea of common reactions and how quickly they might wear off and that might make the worry less bad.

Wish I could do something to help.

I just heard from Dr. Johnson. I took Brat into see her yesterday because she stopped eating. She's going to die.
Elevated kidney values, liver and high white blood count. I can hospitalize her but even then the prognosis
is not good. I don't know what to do.

OMG. No sign of kidney infection? With acute renal failure if there’s an infection IV fluids and antibiotics can turn it around. This happened to Tiffany. She recovered after almost a week at the ER and lived for 6-9 months.

There is an infection but additionally kidney and liver disease. She didn't give me much hope even if she was hospitalized. This is a lot to handle. Would you give it a shot anyway? She's only 13.

I would put her on IV fluids and antibiotics and see how she responds. Tiffany’s kidney numbers were off the charts thanks to the oncologist. You will likely need sub-q fluids when she comes home if she can beat this and lots of supplements. I’m glad I did it with Tiffany. One problem is that I believe your vet’s office does not have a vet in at night. Fluids need to be monitored for fluid overload so she would need to be at a 24 hour facility. I know you liked the internist at Blue Pearl. Do you think you he will call you back?

This will be very expensive as well. I need to tell you that because she might need a week at the ER. With Tiffany she stayed at the ER as long as her kidneys values kept going down. When they reached a plateau she came home.

Darn it! The UTI or kidney infection will likely improve with IV. What is the liver issue?

She just said she didn't know which came first the liver problem or kidney. She talked about it could go into fatty liver but I was so upset I don't remember half of what she said. She sent all the blood work and there is a lot way out of wack. She also sent an estimate. They're not even open on Sunday so I'm not sure what they do with animals in the hospital.

Those kidney values aren’t even stage 4. The concerning part is the liver. What is her liver disease?

I keep forgetting to tell what I think about Blue. I think his symptoms are from the lymphoma rather than the chemo. I pray the CCNU starts to fight it. If I am right when it starts to work he will feel better.

I don't know what the liver disease is. She just said she didn't know which one came first but it didn't really matter
    at this point.
I'm waiting on the chemo to kick in. I did give him some gaba because he seemed uncomfortable. I know it will
take a little while to work so I'm trying to be patient. It's hard seeing him so sick.

Losing weight too quickly can cause fatty liver. Did Brat have liver issues before? The next question is why the lack of appetite. That could be due to the CKD but can be dealt with if that is the cause. When were Brat’s last labs done before this?

    Patty!!! :bighug: (((Brat)))

Am I correct in understanding that Brat has had IBD for some time, per yesterday's thread? (Excuse me for having to double-check with you but with the fatigue issues I can miss things, so it takes a bit of repetition for stuff to sink in.)

What day did she last eat properly?

She stopped eating two days ago but was picking at her food a couple of days before.
I'm taking Teddy to the vet. I'm not sure if I need to go ahead and take Brat or not.
I'm at a loss. I think I'll take her and talk with them some more. I'm inclined to treat her
but I don't know how realistic that is.

A cat can get fatty liver quickly if eating less than 3/4 of normal. How old is Teddy? If over 10 and no labs in more than 6 months I would get them done.

Yes. I just spoke to Dr. Johnson. I'm in the parking lot. We're doing a complete workup for Teddy.
She said Brat has a lot of spunk so thinks she might do ok. I'm having sub-Q fluids done and she running a few tests and I'll hospitalize her on Monday. They do have people come by on the weekend but I’d rather have her in during the week.

I just asked and she said she needs an IV and doesn't think it will make much difference. I'm bringing her back Monday morning. Radiograph shows thickening of intestines which could be lymphoma.

No blood test on Blue because I already had them done so sent them over.

One of Brats eyes changed color a year or so ago. I ask about it and was told that can happen in older cats.

I'm confused now, so please bear with me. Did your own vets do blood tests before Blue went to the oncologist yesterday? If not, when did Blue last have blood work done? (Sorry for having to ask, I'm just trying to get my head round all of what's happened since the night before last. Let me know as and when you can. :bighug: )

    How's Blue's temperature now?

Blue had blood work this week at my vet. They sent it to Bluepearl so they didn't need to run it again.
I haven't taken it again. He's sleeping peacefully right now but his ears are not hot like they were.

I'm glad Blue's resting and his ears are cooler (and that he's had some food and water). Do you have an oscillating fan that could keep some moving air around him, perhaps? Maybe check his temperature again in a little while? (Just throwing out ideas here in the hope that something might help a little bit.)

It is overwhelming but most of all I'm worried about Blue. He's not feeling well at all.

Oh and she did say Teddy could be hyper-thyroid.
That would explain the weight loss and diarrhea.
Now that I think about it, I've noticed he climbs on me then leaves and does this over and over again. It's irritating but maybe he can't help it. Too much energy.

    This.

Even if it's just light, brief short naps on the sofa, Patty, try to snatch what bit of sleep you can. It's something very mundane but vital that you can do to care for them tonight. You need to look after you a little bit so that you can be there for them.

Meds are kicking in. Last thing before the shutters come down will be prayers, and all of you are very much in them.
