Jojo mentioned last night that we seem to be getting lax on the WCRs so here is Morris'.

WCR: Not eating, not purring, liquid poo during the night twice and now constipation, not sure about peeing, not preening, not doing very well in general.

WBR: Still very worried about all of the above and also now not able to get him to take any meds...mistrusts anything I hand him especially pill pockets and can't mix with food if he doesn't eat.

I have another call in to the vet to get injectable flagyl. Also need to pick up some feeding syringes cuz I think we're going to need them....this is not going to be a pleasant day!

((Brenda))
I hope u can get some answers from ur vet, suggestions anything! Praying for ((Morris)) to feel better soon.
:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Keep us posted, I know u will.

(((Brenda))) Hope you get a handle on what is going with with morris. Hope the vet has some suggestions. Keep us posted. Feel better vines to Morris.

(((Brenda)))

Sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time. I hope some of those tests will bring you answers & solutions for poor Morris.
Sending lots of prayers & healing vines your way. :YMHUG:

I'll be following your condo today, my friend. Please keep us posted.

Feeding syringes will be great....and the tuna water that Jojo suggested should do the trick.
I hope things work out today for the better for you and Morris....they are very stubborn little creatures,
aren't they? but we love 'em...and they love us....
(we are stubborn too, right? )
Gotta put them under your arm (I find that if I am sitting on the couch they cannot back out of my arm hold too easily)
I guess I have been known to manhandle them at times like this.. : .but it only lasts a couple of seconds and when you get the meds in, they can g o off in a huff...till the next time....not the most pleasant experience....But hey, whatever works...

OK this is what I have tried:

Since he liked the pill pockets the first time around (until he discovered that big fat Flagyl in it), I made a "truffle" out of it by inserting only half the pill, sealing it up and then rolled it in ground up Halo treats (his fave) - one sniff, not interested.

Took juice from can of tuna and stirred the crushed up pill into it - one lick, no dice.

Took the whole can of tuna with water and pureed it with my immersion blender. Mixed it into the crushed pill, tasting every tablespoon or so and it was bitter even with the whole can added but figured cats only have those 500 or so taste buds, maybe he won't taste it as much as I do. He took about 10 licks & then walked away...not enough.

Bought a pill dispenser pusher thingy...inserted the pill....put Morris on my lap and shot it before he knew what happened....success!!!!! Gave him a tuna juice chaser (with nothing in it) and he lapped it up. What remains to be seen is whether I can pull it off again.

In the meantime, I found a great local holistic pet supply store that sells the raw diet Nature's Variety and went there this morning....that's where I got the pill pusher. I had a buy one, get one coupon for the raw food and also got a probiotic with the bifido baceterium. It's called Digest-All by Wholistic Pet Organics and has 5 billion CFU's of the Bifido and 5 billion CFU's of Lactobacillus acidophilus in addition to some other stuff...if interested I can list them. I also got the Merricks Cowboy Cookout that everyone raves about for when his tummy gets better...I looked for it in the usual pet food stores and couldn't find it.

So, still waiting for the vet to call me back....story of my life. I called at 7:45 and again at 9:30 and they said she would get back to me as soon as she got a break. I know she's not going to prescribe the Flagy as injectable, not even positive that its available but the taste of the pill is too strong to compound it with anything....I already did that and it didn't work.

Well, maybe that pill pusher will be a good investment...
Hoping it works for you but I know he will be very aware if you try to maneuver him
again for another pill. You just have to be the boss if you can....no outsmarting him, so
manhandling is the next best thing...ooops...I didn't say that, did I? :o

I hope I can get it to work again. That first time was such a fluke...it went right down the hatch...Morris and I looked at each other like...huh, what just happened?? ohmygod_smile I was so sure it missed that I was searching myself, inside my bra and everything, to be sure the pill didn't jump out. As for manhandling, he's so weak right now it's not really necessary. And about being the boss....we both know who the boss is, don't we Pat??? :dizcat

Keep up your energy. It's always tough to have to fight to get those meds in esp. when they don't feel good - but once they take effect it will be worth the battle.

We're thinking of you and think good "pusher" thoughts.

Glad to hear that you were able to get at least 1 pill into him! Here's hoping that things start improving for you as the day goes along. Will be watching the board for your vet report!

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Vet called...I had asked for injectable, she said it wasn't available. When I said I heard that it was, she said she "thought" it was IV only but not sure and in any case they don't carry it. What about trans-dermal says I? Well, yes, that might be an idea but they don't carry that either. I told her I saw it online and I would just need her to order it for me and they could ship to my home. Then she remembered there are two compounding places nearby and that might work if they have the materials available....first she wanted ME to call, then decided her tech could call when she was free. They will call me back to let me know if/when it will be ready.

Just as I finished writing this I heard him in the bathroom....bloody diarrhea now! With some streaks of black that looks like charcoal but is probably dried blood. This can't go on like this!

Another update, 2 good news, 1 not so good:

Morris ate 1 oz. of the Nature's Variety raw chicken I picked up this morning! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT Not only did he eat it, he inhaled it! I'd give him more but don't want to risk a pukus right now...not real sure whereabouts the pill is in his body. I really like this brand of raw food...the Felines Pride was good but came packed in like a 5 lb. solid chunk so once you defrosted it you had to use it within a few days or else try and break a chunk off and refreeze...didn't work real well. This brand is packaged in 1 oz. hockey pucks, easy to take out a day's supply at a time and defrost in the fridge or, as I did, put a little warm water on them and keep mashing around until it's defrosted.

Also...the vet called back, or rather her tech. The local compounding pharmacies don't have the necessary ingredients to do the transdermanl metronidazole. I had already found an online supplier (Wedgewood Pharmacy- wedgewoodpetrx.com), talked to them about the procedure, and gave the tech the number to place the order. They are in NJ but if the order gets called in within the next hour or so (fingers crossed) they can get it out today.

In the meantime, I found some posts on the old board about transdermal metronidazole not being as effective and not really recommended by Dr. Lisa because : quoted from old board:

> Unfortunately, there are no ABs out there that
> have been proven to achieve adequate blood levels
> when administered via the TD route.
> Keep in mind that if a partial blood level is
> achieved, it is my understanding that this will be
> worse than NO blood levels as it could lead to
> resistance issues. This falls into the category of
> 'do it right or don't do it'.

That's a bummer. I guess I will keep trying the pill and if all else fails, use the TD and hope that, between the two, I get the adquate blood level.

Re: 1/19 Morris AMPS 296, +6~80, +9~79

Fed another oz of the raw, gobbled up again...no new diarrhea for 3 hours....I'm getting my hopes up now!

Of course, his numbers are green today....probably because he hasn't eaten enough to bring it up but at least that's a plus also...trying to look on the bright side.

The meds are on their way....should be here on Thursday. In the meantime, will have to use the shooter again and pray it goes to the right place.

I hope the pill shooterr works each and every time!!! You can do it Brenda!! Just take deep
breaths before you do it and relax yourseelf. At least you have it and it sound great...
what a great invention!!!
The bloody diarrhea is a worry...did you mention it to the vet? Have you ever detected blood previously?

Brenda,
I sure hope the meds help a bit when they arrive. Who's to say it won't work for Morris?

What great news to hear the food's going down, staying down, and not coming out badly.
We'll be thinking of you and Morris; positive thoughts.

Yeah Pat, I thought it was a worry too....the vet said let's wait until we get the test results...and no he's never had bloody stools before. But he's never had this horrible explosive diarrhea before either. ohmygod_smile

Re: 1/19 Morris PMPS 161

Got another 1/2 flagyl pill in him....I think! grr_red He is foaming at the mouth so maybe it didn't go down and it will all come back out with the foam but I used three 1/2 pills just tonight so have to assume he got some anyway. I just knew that first one was a fluke! :YMSIGH:

No more diarrhea since the bloody one...he has tried to poop a couple of times but nothing happens. I guess that slippery elm bark finally worked...but now what??? grumpy_cat He got mad at me after the evening pill struggle and went out to the screen porch to sulk...he will forget by the time he comes in...I hope. For now, I'm having an adult beverage and going to go lay down for awhile. drinking24

Good for you relaxing with a nice beverage! Remember, if you worry, Morris will worry! The drink will hopefully help both of you relax!

Here.....I am sending another drink in your direction! ENJOY! drinking24
