Different amount feed,time,wight and so,so!
Want to know what amount cal. or food is enough for 18lb Jake! (he is overwight)
how often? I'm not newbie but still want to hear some opinion!

What's Jake eating now? Shadoe's a very muscular 12lb gal, and she has some days when she is starving and has gone through 4 cans, but other days, she will eat only one 5oz can.
I was told that her body was not absorbing the nutrients from the food so that could be the reason for her eating more, when we first started her insulin
There are some places where you can calculate how many calories your cat needs based on its ideal weight, and that's where the site lost me. How are you supposed to know the kitty's ideal weight?
I hope someone comes along to explain it to you, and me too.

it should give you an idea of how many calories to be feeding... or at least a starting point.

Thank you Jill for the site janet/binky! I read Dr.lisa's too! I guess i have to be more agresive with a diet.
I'll read again. jake is allways hungry (low or high).
Is it better to eat more small meals? How many?
Well tomorrow is another day and I wll think more clearly!

just a personal opinion based on my experience with alex aka "miss piggy"...
initially, i figured out how many calories alex should be consuming every day. then i looked up the number of calories per ounce in the food i was feeding on the janet/binky food charts. that gave me the total number of ounces to feed daily. i knew alex was carb sensitive so when she was on insulin i divided up each meal into four portions and fed her at ps, +1, +2, and +3. these feeding times worked well for alex because of HER response to insulin. you'll have to experiment with jake to see what works best for him.
