I haven't been worrying too much about the BG in light of all the other stuff to worry about lately but this 450 this morning has me bothered. Is it rebound from going too low yesterday or is the tiny dose of insulin not working anymore? :? He's not eating again this morning...yesterday he ate a total of 2 oz. of raw and some tuna water in the morning. Of course, not much is coming out the other end either but when it does it is still liquid and smelly.

On a better note, I got another pill in him this morning with the shooter and this time it went down so he didn't foam at the mouth. He wouldn't take a drink though so that's not good.

He spent the better part of the night last night on the screen porch...I brought him in twice, once to try and feed and once to test, and he went right back out when we were done. Now he's out there again...I guess it's his refuge from me trying to feed and pill him.

Test results will be in this evening....wonder if she will call me???? And the transdermal flagyl will be here tomorrow. I'm playing the waiting game right now, just hoping I can get Morris to eat something. Will go over today and get feeding syringes to try that route. Aside from his needing food/water, his probiotic is in the tuna water. He is a VERY difficult patient! grr_red

Your Morris sure is a handful lately. Hope he finds his appetite today. You need your fuds Morris!!

If you're getting the feeding syringes from the vet today, why not let him know you expect that call tonight!

Syringe fed at AM+5 about 1 oz. pureed tuna mixed with about 1 oz. water in which his Digest All probiotic was dissolved. Morris was not happy with the syringe feeding but he's so weak he couldn't really fight me as he once would have. The very last bite though he gave that syringe a good chomp....I was glad it wasn't my finger! Also managed to pill 1/4 of a Mirtz tablet and hope that this might get his appy going again.

No LB action at all today...no pee...no poo...nada. Uh oh, he just came walking by...that usually means he's looking for a place to puke....hope it doesn't all come back up! :evil: BBL

Just spoke to the vets's office and really steamed cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam !

The bloodwork results were to be in "Wednesday evening". I was in their office today and asked what time I should call to get results...they said they come by fax anytime after 5 and my vet would call me when they came in...yeah, right!

I waited until 6:30, knowing the office closes at 7:00, and just called. The vet tech who answered checked and found that the bloodwork results will not be in now because of a sinkhole...the blood had to be sent to Georgia for some unknown reason and there will be a delay because of the sinkhole. I said, the blood was drawn on Monday so what does the sinkhole have to do with the results today? She said well that was what they were told when they called to check on it today.

I'm afraid I blew up a bit...said nobody ever calls me...I always have to call them...why didn't someone call me today to let me know about the delay...when the bloodwork comes in tomorrow, will I have to call again or will someone call me. My vet won't be in until 2:00 tomorrow so that would be the earliest call...well that's not acceptable, etc. etc. and ending with my stating that I hope he lives long enough to get the call and by that time I'm incoherent.

About 5 min. later my vet called me herself all upset that I had blown up on the tech. Turns out she had SOME of the bloodwork back, all but the T4s in fact. All tests were fine except elevated esinophils as always. She suggested that she can refer me to an internist that can take further tests, ultrasound etc. but we left it that I will wait for the other test results to come in and continue trying to syringe feed him.

Getting pretty good at the syringe feeding actually....and the pilling. That pilling tool works pretty good...made it in one try tonight! He ate a little bit on his own before but not enough, just a few bites of 2 different things.

Still no poop but he has peed a bit...and he was a bit more feisty tonight while feeding him.

Sorry you had to put your "gorilla suit" on to deal with the vet. I love it they request payment when services are rendered. They should also guarantee to provie the results.

Have you tried baby food meat for Morris. Perhaps he will eat some of that. Can't be a steady diet but it may help.

I don't blame you for getting upset...ironic that the vet had some results when she called back...
Weren't they available to the tech 5 minutes before?
At least you are able to pill him easily now...that is so good...and the syringe feeding is going better.
Well, both those things are good. news....I am just so sorry that Morris is not feeling well....

Way to go Brenda; I do the same thing to get results.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
And you did get results by kicking up some dust - there actually WERE some results for you!

I am so glad to hear that Morris is getting some of that food down in some way; hopefully, with a bit of food in his belly, he will have a bit more strength and start to feel better.

How long is it supposed to take for Morris' meds to start working? I hope it is not too long.

I think you are doing a great job, and Morris surely appreciates all of your efforts.

hey you're not giving slippery elm bark anymore, are you?

if you are, and there's other meds involved, here's what tanya's site says:

Slippery Elm Bark Cautions
Do not give Slippery Elm Bark at the same time as any other medications or supplements - it can inhibit the absorption of the medications. It is best to give it an hour before or after any other medications (especially antibiotics), and ideally on an empty stomach, although it is safe to sprinkle it on food if you wish.

Slippery Elm Bark also contains calcium, so it is probably safer not to use it if your cat has hypercalcaemia.

Perhaps you could suggest that you will pay them for services rendered when the services are complete -- like when they provide the test results and the interpretation. Yeesh! I really hope Morris starts feeling better soon.

No, I only gave him the slippery elm bark twice, about 250 mg each time (1/3 capsule)...it appears to have worked too well as he is now constipated. He has gone in the litter box a few times but nothing has come out. And I last gave it to him a couple of days ago, before I started the other meds.

He is still getting the Digest-all, which is a probiotic with bifidobacterium and lactobacillus. He seems a bit more alert tonight and ate a few bites of food on his own...thanks to the mirtz probably. This afternoon he looked so weak and shaky, it was scarey....but tonight he just seems a bit stronger.

Keep sending those vines for him if you will....

But the GOOD news is that Morris is feeling better, eating a bit & his numbers are coming down! All good signs. :mrgreen:

Has Morris ever shown chronic signs of an allergy? - Itchy skin, pulling/losing hair, ear infections, vomiting or diarrhea, chewing on paws, etc.? Eosinophil elevations are white blood cells that elevate due as an allergic response. Have they been elevated his entire life? Do you know how high they usually are?

I responded to your thread on Health. Do think you should let him eat whatever he can right now and work insulin around it, especially given his recent weight loss.

Has the vet talked to you about adding an antiemetic in for vomiting/nausea? When was the last time he had a bowel movement?

No, Morris has never had any of these symptoms.

Eosinophil elevations are white blood cells that elevate due as an allergic response. Have they been elevated his entire life? Do you know how high they usually are?

I don't know about prior to this year because he has not had bloodwork done very recently but the eosinophil has been high the three tests he has had this past year. In 9/09 it was 16% and 5/09 was 4.51 K/uL, don't have this week's number but she said it was "high again".

No to the vet suggesting antiemetic, but he is no longer vomiting. He had a very small BM tonight that was slightly formed, not total liquid like it has been....I was elated.

Hmmm.....some more jumbled thoughts....

You said earlier that he hadn't urinated. Has he since then? As you know, blocking in male cats can be life threatening quickly.

Eosinophils can be elevated in cases of IBD as well. Sasha's IBD seemingly came on rapidly, although it truly had been festering for years. She went from being a cat that vomiting occasionally to a kitty that vomited constantly. Her eosinophil counts were the only blood result that was ever abnormal. Often IBD doesn't show in blood, although it can with eosinophils and basophils.

Wedgewood Pharmacy also offers a tiny tab of Metronidazole. It does not cause foaming/drooling like the traditional Metro does and is nice and small for pilling. (still needs to be chased with 4-6ml of water as every pill does)

The lack of appetite.....maybe nausea without vomiting? Or pain? Has he been tested for pancreatitis (fPLI, Spec fPL)? Have x-rays been done to rule out a blockage? Have his teeth been looked at?

I apologize for having so many questions.....I'm always full of them. :roll:
