Happy New Year, everyone! Just checking in... this boy is still chugging along. Some weight loss that I don't like, and diarrhea for the past couple of weeks, so we did not skip chemo like we had discussed last month. Possible that it's from IBD rather than lymphoma, but also possible that the lomustine is starting to lose effectiveness and we may need to give it more frequently. We muddled along with the GI symptoms for a while (pee pads outside the litter box; the office and hall carpets need cleaning now) until I remembered on Tuesday that I had some metronidazole on hand. Immediate improvement, and weight is back up a bit already. Everyone is happier and I wish I'd thought of it sooner. Now I need to figure out how long to keep him on it.

He was cat-on-a-mission over the holidays (from 2.75 to 2.25 U), but now it looks like we'll be bumping him back up. Does metronidazole affect blood sugar at all, or is this just some of his usual Oberonigans?

Thanks for the Oberon update. How is his appetite?

Are you giving the Metronidazole in pill form? I have seen it compounded with sugar cause it's so bitter tasting. Metronidazole also has some down sides, it can ruin tummy flora if on for too long. Is he getting a good probiotic for IBD, such as Visbiome?

It's pills (50 mg mini tablets). I was thinking I should add a probiotic but haven't yet; I'll dig that out of the bin of random cat meds. (It's Entero powder; I just looked and it has maltodextrin as a filler...)

Oh, and appetite was a little down for a while (which could also explain his BG running low last week), but seems back to normal now.

I've heard from several people that Visbiome helped with diarrhea. It is designed specifically for IBD and has a pet version that is OK for BGs. My IBD kitty is a vomiter so not the same experience.
