Hello!

My name is Erica and my cat, Moses, was recently diagnosed with diabetes. This is my first home test, where I learned how to shoot my cat thanks to Heather & Boo. We did 2 tests; the first test was 281 and the second test was 342.

Moses is 12 year old boy that does tricks for treats. He'll wave and grab to get some. He loves his diet of Innova Evo wet food, with occasional dry food. I'm currently trying to wean him off of the dry. I'm happy he's going to feel better soon. I've heard wonderful things about this place and I'm so glad it exists.

Tomorrow night I intend to start his insulin. Shall I start at 1u?

welcome Erica and Moses! Glad you had Heather come over to help, now the rest of us are jealous that you actually got to meet Heather. Great job on getting a spreadsheet started already.

1 unit BID is a pretty standard starting dose. What does your vet recommend? About what would you say is Moses' ideal weight? Has he had ketones or any other complications, or what led you to have him tested for diabetes?

You're in the right place, we're glad to have you and Moses here.

Hi Erica and Moses and welcome to Lantus Land (LL).

When you have a chance, could you reply to Libby's questions -- what is Moses' ideal weight (this will help to know if the 1.0u is a good starting dose) and whether there are any medical problems currently or in the past that Moses has dealt with.

I'm sure Heather told you about the permanent notes (stickys) at the top of the Board and how important it is to read them. Please take at the link to the dosing protocol that we use.

And please, post daily. Visit other members threads (condos) and ask questions!
