1/6 Mim PMPS 155 ?Pain Meds timing?

We went to the vet yesterday as Mim has been limping - there's pain in one of his "toes". Could this be contributing to the higher BG? Should I get some Dex?

Vet gave me "Tramadol" oral liquid - is there a "right" time to administer in relation to the insulin?

Re: 1/6 Mim AMPS 344

Pain can certainly contribute to higher BGs. Did the vet determine the cause? Were pain meds offered? Buprenex/Buprenorphine is a good choice for short term pain management if it is available there. You will most likely be able to determine is pain is the causative factor of these BGs with a dose or two. If you give the pain med and the BGs go down, then pain is probably contributing to the higher BGs.

If there is inflammation in the toes, then the vet may feel that a steroid like Dex is a better choice to relieve that.

Can you get some bedtime checks in today and tomorrow? The shed should be close to full on this dose, and it would be good to see what he is doing at night.

ETA: Sending many good vines for Tiba's echo. (((Andrew)))

Not offered - I only considered the possible link to the BG just now - vet seemed to think lack of fibre in the new diet most likely cause.Buprenex/Buprenorphine is a good choice for short term pain management if it is available there. I'll give the vet a call this morning to discuss further - btw he's also had a couple of coughing episodes since the higher BG.

Thank-you.

I've used Tramadol in my drooler, not in kitties. Some kitties have had weird reactions on it (one or two that I have heard about here - not too many), so just start with a low dose (I'm guessing your vet told you the same).

I'd pick a time that you will be around to monitor. Once you give it the first time you should be able to tell if it impacts the BGs. Does the liquid have any sugars in it?

Hi Andrew,
Sorry I can't offer help w.r.t. pain meds and timing.
I just wanted to stop by and say hello... it's been a long time since I've stopped in.
I hope Mim's paw gets better soon.

Can't offer you and advice, just sympathy and support. I've been following Mim for a while now and poor little guy has been through SO much lately. Andrew, you have done such a good job with him! I hope that he is feeling better soon and gets back to normal. And tell Tiba to be nice to Mim because he can use a little loving now, not fighting.
