a little fussy this morning, did not want her shot. then there was a big drop left over. arg!

i noticed her anal area is red. i'll check it again later and see if its any better. (the other day, she has a little poo hanging there off a hair? i removed it, but she gets very mad if you go near that area. i might try to wash the area with a warm rag later, if i can.

tried to clean her bottom...she went ballistic (i felt so bad!)
it looked a little better than this morning, not as red, but i think she's having trouble cleaning it

any suggestions on how to get a cat to lose weight would be welcome! :)

Dr Lisa has an awesome website dedicated to Feline Nutrition and a special section for feline obesity. If u haven't already, please read it, A lot of info to absorb, so it may take a few visits.
You'll want to be very careful with decreasing food availability for weight loss, so please have a read thru her the link here for guidance and suggestions. Book mark or u can access it thru the Health Links in the main page of our board.

Edit to add: is Sasha long hair? How much litter do u use in the box? My civvie was having that problem, she's long hair, so we get her groomed with the lion cut every few months or so, especially the delicate area, I notice the more litter I put in the box, the more likely poop will stick to her fur, plus she was a bit heavy with all the fur, I thought she was overweight, but she's actually ok for her size.. the grooming has also made a huge difference.

Ronnie, thanks so much for the info. yes, i've seen that link, but time to re-read it! Sasha is a short hair, but I have a tendency to fill the litter box a little high, so there might be too much in there. i will try using a bit less. It's not as red, but still doesn't look right. (doesn't look clean like the other civvies, but she really will not let me near it.) I'll keep an eye on it. If need be, I'll solicit someone to hold her down while I clean the area.

Hope Sasha's bottom gets better soon.

I'm going to check out that link again, too. Chloe could also stand to shed a few pounds. I always leave out a ton of food so make sure Chloe has some food while I'm at tbp, even if the four civvies are hungry.

Will be looking for a nice green (Sasha) PMPS!
 
Moonie had that last week & I started giving them Miralax--Those poopies are hard to get out sometimes! Ni ni ! :smile:
 
it seems that the way to get lots of visitors to your condo is to ask a good poop question. :lol:

I have to clean Lucy there too now because she's too fat. It's not fun. I need to reread the weight loss stuff too (for her AND for me, ewwww!)

well, nice to know i'm not alone in this...

I just checked and it is a little messy down there...i am tempted to clean it, but i wonder if the agitation that will cause will be worth it. this afternoon we had quite a scene when i tried to clean it! she keeps licking/cleaning her legs and belly. maybe she'll do it herself? as i said, i will keep an eye on it, and if need be, find someone to assist me.

Roni (or anyone who uses it) how much Miralax do you use? and do you put it right in the food?

i use miralax occasionally... 1/8 teaspoon mixed in food twice a day. that dose always seems to do the trick, but i know others have had to up the dose to a 1/4 teaspoon x two. you mentioned redness. does she look sore back there? i only ask because sometimes kitties need their anal glands expressed...
 
With Miralaz, it's 1/8 teaspoon -- I just can't remember if it's once or twice a day. You just mix it into Sasha's food.

Is there any chance Sasha is having an anal gland problem? If they are clogged/impacted, it can be painful. Maybe someone who's dealt with this can comment. I know some cats will "scoot" across the floor if this is a problem although I don't know if this is always the case.
 
Some cats will scoot in order to try and express the glands themselves, but not all. Sasha needs her expressed occasionally. Sometimes with diet changes or aging the glands just don't work (ooze?) the way they are supposed to.

Her numbers look pretty darn good. :smile: Hope her bum feels better soon.
